Bacon, Cheese, Potato, Spanish onion and sour cream! Lord Jesus take the wheel!! Talk about deluxe. It is just plain delicious. La Giardino is a Vegetarian option. An Option! If you are or have ever been vego ( as I was for 10 years) having actual options is an absolute treat. Eggplant, tomato ( we ask for fresh tomato to replace the capsicum) cheese and mushroom. They have a lot of options! Hurrah! I admit Ive never actually dined in at Mancini's but it is definitely the Hub of Summer Hill village. Along with Da Vinci's next door, it's a Pizza agglomeration. White linen, outdoor tables line the streets in true European style, and it is always very busy and buzzing. Highly recommend it.

If you want some dessert, they have plenty of gelato and cake on offer.

The Larder is a beautifully arranged store full of gorgeously packaged products that will have you wondering whether you're buying something just for its pretty jar or for the actual product itself. It does make for handy gift shopping though (whose mum doesn't love a block of French chocolate or Blue Mountains handcrafted coffee?). They stock a really great range of Australian and international cheeses, Hunter Valley olive oil by the litre, and top brands like Christine Manfield, Byron Bay Chilli Co and Toby's Estate. If you're on your way to a dinner party or BBQ and need to take along a token offering, grab a loaf of Brasserie sourdough or a cheese platter. The specialty grocer store opened after the owners returned from France and realised how difficult it is to find all the quality local and imported products you wanr in the one place. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable and clearly love what they're doing. There's plenty of parking available, just look for the green and white striped storefront.

The new menu marked the antecedent of a series of events planned at Andiamo Summer Hill. Each event will be transporting you on a taste journey to specific regions of Italy. 'Tavola di Luca" (Chef's Table) is the new concept headed by Chef. The influences come from Sardinia, where Luca grew up in the South of Italy. It was the perfect debut to long time Summer Hill diners as the 6 course degustation of Sardinian dishes had personal ties with Chef Luca's grandparents and mother. All courses were accompanied with wine from Sardinia, immersing diners completely into this style of cuisine which has deep roots in agropastorality. Thin wafers are a staple in the Sardine antipasti, so the lead-in basket of Carasau Bread with fresh tomato of crisp textures and natural tomato flavors sets the tone together with the cured Pork fillet with Rocket & Apple. This was a beautiful pairingwith the caramelized sweetness in the Antichi Poderi Jerzu - Vermentino di Sardegna wine accompanying this. Perfectly rounded off with sips from the Maccori grapes treated with the strong mistral winds blowing in from the north-west Mediterranean. The primi (appetiser) of hand made pork sausage and fennel seeds requires no sauce. It's natural juices bathe in its spiral construction allowing the meat and herb to intertwine beautifully. This represents the epitome of Sardinian style cooking. No sauce required - keep things real! The island of Sardinian cuisine wouldn't be complete without seafood. Baby clams are served with hand rolled Fregola Risotatta - the perfect example of Mediterranean and Italian fusion in which this island has strong influences. There are many many versions of this dish throughout Sardinia. Native only to Sardinia, it's somewhere in between risotto and pasta taking the form of 2mm beads. Nice earthy brothe paired with the floral fruitiness of the vermin to grape wine. The heart of our meal came with the Secondi (Main) pork roast. A world famous signature of the islands, it is served in the chicory plant, absorbing that subtle woody flavour into its meat, rounded off with sips of the warmth from the Bantu annonau wine. Dessert blends orange zest, ricotta and corbezzolo honey into a centre of crisp pastry and accompanied with In Fudu moscato. This is an excellent finale to a region not focused on as much in the mainstream.

The rocket salad had fresh greens but very little rocket and wasn't peppery, in the middle of a pandemic causing supply chain issues this is fine but I wished I'd ordered the Mediterranean salad instead. Only disappointing item was the Mojito cocktail, at $17 you'd expect some kick, not sure if it had any spirits at all. I had to pay cash for my coffee to sit outside in the sun as the outdoor tables have separate service rules, but it was lovely and the woodsmoke made it smell like Europe.

EVERYONE in Summer hill town has been talking about this place. From the outside you would not know that it was completely packed to the rafters with people. Outside you could hear crickets chirping. Inside was the sound of chatter and laughter and clanking dishes. You can't go out on the upstairs balcony after 8pm. Fair enough, it's right in a residential area. But you can hang out in the cool, lounge and table dotted bar and have a cocktail or a young henry's on tap. "The Smith street sour". Now, that's the street it's on. I loved that they've done that. Downstairs is separate from upstairs. You can get food up there too, but space is limited by the looks so I recommend just booking something. Brunch. . You can't book though, but try your luck. First up the dinner menu will dazzle you with temptations, but if you've never been before just get the "trust the chef" menu... just get it. The spinach, the pomegranate and dressing side just complimented and offset that taste perfectly. Dessert.. Well the time it came through we'd had several top notch wines and bubblies and DON'T EVEN FORGET calvados! Shut up! Let's admit this is a top notch restaurant. My friend and fellow foodie said if it was in Canberra it would have a hat. A lovely top hat, which gets tipped when fine ladies pass by its lovely renovated doors A nod to the building heritage, but a thoroughly modern interior, menu and outstanding service. Get here. Now.

We ventured up to Gioia Pizza Restaurant on Norton Street for, any guesses? Yes, pizza and we sat down. The people I was with were regulars here and spoke to the waiters on a first name basis. They ordered some wine. I scrolled through the menu, looking at all the amazing pizza's they had on offer. An elaborate menu indeed. "Ah, the agony of choice", I muttered to myself, though it may have been louder and more vocalised, remember, the night started with red wine. I have eaten these pizza's before, but only ever take away, I had never eaten in the actual restaurant, which is huge by the way and has a parking lot. Though on this side of Norton Street it's easy enough to get street parking in one of the nearby less busy streets. There are three eating sections here, there are two indoor areas and one outdoor area suitable for those who enjoy the cool air wafting over them as they dine and those who enjoy putting cigarette smoke into that cool air. The pizza arrives and it is what you would call, if you were describing the sizes available, a family sized pizza. Not because it's the size a family would eat, but more because it's the size of a family. We have each ordered our own pizza and we each have trouble finishing them. But like the troopers we are, we persevere. It's a delicious pizza and the red wine continues. I walk home from Gioia satisfied, full and a little bit tipsy, certain that next time I go I share a large pizza with someone, better value and less post pizza binge guilt.
