From the outside, the pub looks quite traditionally designed, if a little dingy, and on entering the pub you will usually be met by several groups of middle-aged men who are no doubt regulars who have been drinking there since they were old enough to buy their own pints. The people in there are generally friendly enough, but if you're looking for a place full of young people then I'd advise you to go over the road to the Birkey. However, if traditional pubs with a bit of character and a range of guest ales on draught are what you look for in a pub rather than how busy it gets of a Friday night, The Crow's Nest could be the place for you.

The decor is comfortable, albeit a little jaded. But maybe now a new crew are in, this will be something on their list of things to improve. There are a good selection of ales, beers and drinks - at a reasonable price. There are bar snacks, as well as a main menu. However, I have not eaten in this establishment, since it has been taken over. There is room for parking and there is also, an area, where children can play safely. Nice inside, very much like the last Wetherspoons I went in. Went in for a midday snack. Wasnt impressed we had to stand waiting at the bar to get an order in for the food. Chorley has a food order area. At the table it wasnt cleaned down and grubby. I had a bowl of Tomato and Basil soup that really was half a bowl. Bloomer bread and butter. Was given a knapkin which wrapped a soup spoon and a large dinner folk to spread my butter on the bread. My friend had Smoked Haddock fish cakes that were too brown and crunchy, chips that looked like washerwomens fingers and a side salad that was limp and need a good dip in water. I could just see Gordon Ramsey forking it about, then coming out with a few choice words. Would I say it's a place with a Kitchen Nightmare, ( yip too true) How do I know? This weekend's trip was to spend some time with grandparents and, with grandad being partial to a Wetherspoons' mixed grill, the Brocket was simply the best option for all parties involved. Roughly a 15 minute walk from the centre, we managed to avoid any big crowds and quickly settled on a table near the front windows (the back can feel a bit dark as natural light reduces the further back you sit!) The menu was standard Wetherspoons fair, though it's changed somewhat since we used to visit, with new items including burritos, hot dogs, and more pasta/salad options. I'm not sure whether I agree with the calorie count being listed next to everything as, personally, it takes the fun out of eating. They continue to offer drinks with food, though they're not great options to be honest e.g. only one 'proper' cider on draught and only alcohol-free cider in bottles. I went for the burrito with chilli con carne and it was actually a good little meal. Served with tortilla chips, salsa, guac, sour cream and a few jalapenos, it had a good level of spice and was a good lunchtime portion. I pinched a few chips and onion rings from the other half's plate, and have to say that the onion rings were probably some of the best we've had in a while! When you want something simple and pretty tasty, Wetherspoons is a solid bet. The Brocket is also a good option when you want to be out of the centre, especially on a Friday/Saturday night.
