We decided to stay a night here on a whim a few days after Christmas. It was a great time to try this place out as the offseason price was reasonable. Expedia had a deal for about $140. The staff at the front desk were friendly and accommodating, we asked for a couple wine glasses and he said they should be in your room before you get there. The only arrived a couple minutes later. We had a beautiful view of the city, it was all lit up for Christmas, just gorgeous. And a cute little balcony with a couple chairs and table. There was also black out blinds which I really appreciated. The climate control was great, and not too loud when it kicked on. The room was tidy and nicely laid out. The bathroom was great with a huge mirror lining one wall. The beds were a bit stiff, but not bad, lots of pillows to choose from and the sheets were alright, a bit loud when you moved but comfortable. One really nice perk was the complementary house coats in the room, that was a nice touch. Not sure if I would want to pay the summer prices for this room, but it was great for our price in the winter. read more

We stayed here for a family reunion. It was a great location ( right on the water, as the name suggests ) The lobby was nice, check in was quick and easy. The room was ok. Could of been updated a bit. The bed was comfy, and it was rather quiet, despite being sold out that weekend. It was also very clean. Toiletries left a bit to be desired, but the complimentary bottles of water made up for that. It was central enough that we could walk downtown and explore. There was a Farmers Market pretty much in front of the hotel, across the street on Saturday. In the hotel, there is a pub we ate lunch at. At nighttime it is more of a nightclub, and does get very busy. There is also a more formal dining restaurant we all had dinner at. The food and service was much better then the pub, but that was reflected on the price. All in all, it was a decent hotel that accommodated the entire family ( 25 people apx ) and met our needs. I think I'm just used to staying in more modern hotels, and thus it gets 3 stars as opposed to 4. read more

The view of the lake from our room was beautiful. Conveniently located and they offer two dining options which is perfect. The staff was accommodating and friendly. We stayed in the newer wing so the room was modern and nicely laid out. They were doing construction during our stay so it was noisy in the morning and the trucks/equipment were a bit of an eyesore but looking forward to the long term goal of making the rooms nicer. I stayed at this hotel 35 years ago. Love the Barking Parrot for happy hour. Thur have a band on the weekend from 5pm to 8pm. I booked us for my husband birthday weekend. The hotel was sold out but I managed to call and get a room. Score! Not realizing we would be in the new tower. Very happy! Nice room. The workman ship was average and is already showing wear and tear. Love the set up. Large bathroom, great shower, fire place & comfortable bed. The pillows don't match the bed as they are small and firm. Love the bar bed set up. Has a microwave and coffee maker. The dancing on the weekend could use a better DJ or better yet the band who plays at happy hour! Nice beach but they could clean it up. I picked up glass 2 times and garbage. They need to take and dredge it. The patio light stayed on all night which lite up the room all night. Lots of debree. I would defiantly stay here again. read more

We stayed here for two night in a king suite to celebrate a 70th. birthday. We found the room a bit small...beautiful views of OK lake. The one thing we didn't like was when you looked down from the fifth floor you could see the dumpster. (Should be hidden behind a wall). The bathroom had NO hooks to hang anything and the water pressure was low. The pool/hot tub need attention. Lots of rust. The change room is small. I have to give a shout out to CHRIS the bellman....he was VERY pleasant and went above and beyond. The food at the Hooded Merganser was AMAZING and RANDI the server was EXCELLENT! We had a very pleasant stay here at the Lakeside Resort. The staff are super nice and we stayed in the West Wing building which are newer rooms. The rooms are super nice and the rooms are very cozy with such big balconies. They're equipped with mini fridges and microwaves which is amazing. They have four tesla chargers on site which is amazing as we were able to charge every night after a day of adventuring. It's a shame we didn't have more time to check out the hotel restaurant and facilities, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here! read more

Stayed in the hotel Aug 7 and 8, 2018. Had a terrible experience. The pool was filled with a toilet paper like substance. I chose this hotel because as a single parent I wanted an indoor pool for my kids to enjoy. We reported the issue to the front desk. The response was "eww gross". No offer to send someone to clean it, no apology and no offer to call us when it was cleaned up. My children were disappointed and we never went back in. Secondly, my room faced the beach. Sadly it also faced out onto an amusement park that had been set up in the grass field below. I wasn't told on booking this would be there nor was I offered a room on the other side of the hotel without this view. It was horrible; loud and smelly and flashing lights from the rides for hours. This hotel has helped out with a few non profit charitable fundraiser I have done, and I believe they deserve a huge shout out! I have also stayed here numerous times! Their hotel is huge! The lobby is adorable and very comfortable! I am saddened the casino is gone! The hotel is right in okanogen lake with beautiful views if you get the back hotel. The hotel has its own boat launch 2 restaraunts and a pub as well as it turns into a nightclub at night! It's the only night club other then 1 other in penticton but the other club is not a fun place to visit! Barking parrot is great! Clean and up to date with style and comfort The rooms are comfy and nice sized not too tiny! The staff is accommodating. This hotel is great for family or fun visits! It's in the heart of wine tastings! In the winter they have their own ice skating rink they had built! Also close to Main Street with shopping and other things to check out! Farmers market is on the weekends mostly in summer which is a fun family event! If your looking for a place to stay I would highly recommend this place! Lots of parking. read more

We paid a lot of money to stay in one of the new rooms in the new building and we were very disappointed. 1)it's weirdly separated from the rest of the complex with no amenities and our room, which we thought would be a lake view was mostly a view of the parking lot. We had to walk across the parking lot to use the pool and so forth. 2) the windows were great but not private AT ALL...people were walking past all the time and looking right in at us and the blinds were see through or had big gaps in them!! I felt very exposed at night. 3)the power system of the room was not explained to us so we couldn't figure out how to turn on lights until we called down to complain, but the light switches, bathroom and general decor were insanely frustrating overall...why would you put the bathroom lights outside the bathroom and only at one entrance?!? 4)the room clearly hadn't been cleaned very well...we found some coins and bits of food in the seating area. It was gross. 5)the lobby floor just outside the elevator had a discrepancy in the floor level that wasn't marked and carrying our bags down, I twisted my ankle badly. Overall, I would NOT stay here again. Truly disappointing when we had a one night getaway from our kids and wanted something special. read more

We stayed at the resort this year. We were not very happy with their service. The housekeeping would not answer the calls. Not only they did not provide daily room service they did not answer when we called for fresh towels or coffee. The front desk was swamped and would not answer half of the time. They were obviously understaffed. For over $400 a night stay they should at least pay their employees well enough so they stay and provide a satisfactory service. I would not recommend staying at this facility. read more

The pool and hot tub are inside which kinda sucked....it would be way better if they were both outside! Overall a great place to stay! We stayed here on the August long weekend for three nights, specifically to go to a concert. I booked the hotel in late December or early January to make sure we would get a nice room. I selected a "lake front" room at the time of booking - $250/night, prepaid. For that price, I was expecting a little more than what we got. After months of anticipation, we drove from Vancouver to Penticton. Check in is at 4pm, which seems a bit late to me, but that's their policy. We arrived at 2pm, but thought we'd check to see if our room was ready. The clerk told me very bluntly that our room would "NOT" be ready until at least 4pm. Ok, calm down. I was just asking. They said that someone would call us when our room was ready. I never received a call so we went back to the desk at 4:15pm. In a nice way of course, I mentioned this to the clerk. She said, and I quote, "You didn't answer the phone". Hmm. Well, my phone was on the entire time, and there are no missed calls...maybe no one called! Even if I didn't answer, it would be common sense to leave a message. We were given the key to our room, and off we went. We were on the 4th floor, I believe. We entered our room and were immediately disappointed. We had a clear view of the parking lot and roof of the conference centre (attached to the hotel). It was only if we stood on the balcony that the lake could be seen. There was a great view of the Rotary park across the street, and the hills in the distance, but I paid extra for, and expected a lake front room. I immediately went back down to the lobby to ask if we could switch to another room. Different clerk this time, but she was no more helpful. I told her that we weren't quite happy with our room, and she said "Rooms are pre-assigned, so you'll just have to deal with it". Just have to deal with it? What kind of customer service is THAT? I paid $250/night for lake front, I would at least like to TRY and get close to that - I even would have accepted "lake view". As long as I could actually see the lake from the room (without walking outside), I would be happy! Our conversation goes as follows: Me: "Surely not everyone has checked in yet. Couldn't I just switch rooms with them?" Clerk: "No, they were pre-assigned last week, and I have no way of changing them. Only my manager has clearance to do that." Me: "Ok awesome, can I please speak to your manager?" Clerk: "Fine." (no joke, she was literally that blunt). I explained my situation to the manager, and he basically told me to deal with it. He said that I shouldn't have booked last minute, but I informed him that I in fact booked 8 months prior. He said that there was no way to change my room. No one even offered an apology, or some kind of consolation (discounted dinner, free parking...anything would have helped). I just decided to deal with it and try to have a good time. The room its self was quite nice. Not worth $250/night, but still nice. The air conditioning was fantastic. It was 30+ degrees outside, and you almost had to wear a jacket if the AC was on full blast. AC unit was built in, with a thermostat on the wall. Much nicer than those window units. Wifi was always fast and very strong. Mini fridge in room! Tasteful decor. Every room has a generous balcony. The location is the whole reason I chose this hotel over others. It's a couple blocks from downtown, right on the lake (private beach), minutes from the highway and the Events Centre (where my concert was). The rooms need an overhaul in the near future. There were some noticeable signs of wear on the rugs, walls, and curtains. This is apparent in all areas of the hotel, including the lobby and hallways. The biggest flaw with the actual building is the door-closing mechanism on all rooms. It is literally impossible to close the door quietly. 6 inches from the door jam, the mechanism lets go, and the door slams shut. It's so loud that neighbouring doors closing jolted me awake every night, and it takes a LOT to wake me up. Other than that, the room was silent - no traffic noise, no sounds from neighbouring rooms. I never used the pool. Honestly, it looks like the kind of pool you'd find at a Quality Inn in Moose Jaw, not a supposed 5-star hotel that charges $250/night. The restaurant in the lobby (Barking Parrot?) never seemed to be open. We liked the menu, and tried to go several times, but it has very strange hours. I'm guessing that's so people will go to the more expensive Hooded Merganser instead (see my review for that). Overall, I was not impressed with my stay at the Lakeside Resort. The hotel really isn't that bad, it's just that they are far, FAR overcharging for the rooms. At this price point, I expect a certain standard. That standard was not met at the Lakeside Resort, and therefore I won't be back. Bottom line: - Rude/unhelpful staff who just don't give a damn - 3-star rooms, 5-star prices - LOUD! doors keep you up at night - $5/day parking + Excellent location + Private beach read more

Another first to review - yelp needs more folks from the BC Interior! I was a bit apprehensive coming here due to the negative comments on TripAdvisor. I was worried for no reason! I booked into a business class room which I totally recommend - it was $189/night on the long weekend. It's about 40 dollars more a night from the standard and totally worth it. I had a king room with a lake view. Wi-fi internet is free in the business room ($5 fee if in a regular room). Business rooms also have the king bed option, complimentary bottled water and turn down service which includes a cookie and apple before you go to bed - how can you go wrong with a chocolate chip cookie?? Complimentary breakfast also included at the Hooded Merganser resto on site - lovely water views. The extras are totally worth the additional money IMHO. I didn't use the pool or amenities so can't comment on those. Tripadvisor has a lot of negative noise reviews so I don't know if I just lucked out or if it's only a problem during grad season. No issue with noise for me (well, the heating unit is a bit noisy but most of the older hotels are) and smooth check-in and check-out. I came in at the same time as the pilots from my flight and this is the hotel they use as well - the check-in person said that they are always booked in the "quiet" part of the hotel, so might be worth asking for if you're staying on a party night. Only downside for me is the bed - the mattress isn't that great but I've definitely slept in worse. Overall a nice stay. read more

My husband had some business in the area, and I tagged along. The room was booked via his business, but we decided to add one extra day to our expense. That threw the staff in for a loop. We were told we had to switch rooms because the rates were different (one had a better view of the parking lot than the other, yahoo!). The "new" room was not ready by the time we were told to vacate the "old" one. The staff was so confused about this whole thing, all the way to our final departure. Overall they seemed a little clueless. Either room was poorly insulated, and we could hear the partying going on outside very clearly. I wish the hotel would have some security staff in the parking lot area, to keep the shouting and revving up of engines to a minimum. At The Hooded Merganser we asked our waitress if they served any distilled spirits from the area. She said they had a couple of beers on draft. We had to explain the difference between distillation and brewing. The waitress was quite young, but you'd think that someone working at a white tablecloth restaurant of a certain standing would get better training. I also called the front desk to ask about bank closing times, was told that someone would find out and call me right away, but that never happened. When I went downstairs and asked again, no one apologized for not calling back. These little details are very important. Unlike the comments below, there were no cookies or apples left for us. The hotel shows some wear and tear, and it is quite dated. This is an OK place to stay, but it certainly was not cheap for what it offers. read more

What they don't mention to pet owners is your pet is not allowed on their private beach. You can walk your pet 500 feet down to the gated pet area open to the public. Good luck enjoying beach time with tons of wet dogs running around in a small caged area. So if you are planning for a day at the beach, you won't be able to do it here at their private beach. Which funnily enough has next to nobody on the beach at any given time of the day. Probably because everyone comes with a pet and is banned from the super special private beach. They won't tell you that until you arrive from a great distance and then they go over their special pet rules with you. And you've paid the high rates. read more

We stayed for two nights in June and I would never recommend this place to anyone. They make it look like a fairly nice place on the website, calling themselves practical and elegance, when in reality it's not even remotely elegant. I understand they have no control over the construction happening next door, however, they do have control over the fact that their accommodations look more like a Super 8 Motel than a "beautiful room" as they declare they have on the front page of their website. All the furnishings are old, dated and not kept in good condition. We had what they called a "Park View" room, I think they meant parking lot view... The balcony was teeny tiny and kind of sketchy looking, and not really a peaceful place to hang out as it seemed like every person who was loud and/or drunk was out on their balcony, making it quite noisy outside. When we tried to check in, we were early and was told the earliest we could check in was 4:00pm, which is probably the latest check in I've ever experienced at any hotel I've ever stayed in. Our room had already been paid for and there was a note to that effect on the booking when they printed it out, but they still tried to charge us for the two nights on top of putting a hold on our credit card for incidentals. We asked a variety of other questions such as parking, facilities, etc, none of which they could answer in a way that made any sense. We must have had a wedding party on our floor as the first evening was spent with seriously noisy neighbours partying all night. When we complained, we received a $25 voucher for food and beverage, barely enough for a full meal for one person, even though two of us were inconvenienced. Honestly one of the worst hotel stays I've ever had. If you want to get any rest on your trip, I would recommend staying elsewhere as it seems more like a party hotel and the staff are not very good to deal with. read more

As good as it gets here in the Okanagan. The hotel is clean, safe, centrally located, within walking distance to the beach and the best 'downtown' shopping in Penticton. I would say that you may want to ask if your room is situated anywhere near or above the bar/club at the hotel... if so, it won't be a comfortable sleep for you. The hotel has a nice breakfast place (indoor and a patio) on the north side of the hotel. Also, you are a very short walk to the restaurant called the Hooded Meganser. You can have breakfast, lunch or dinner there (and order in.) It is probably Penticton's best restaurant. The Lakeside is right near the Penticton Farmer's Market (on Saturdays before noon.) This is the best farmer's market in the whole Okanagan!! You shouldn't miss it! read more

We have only stayed here for one night, but was happy with the room for the most part. Great patio with stunning view and comfortable bed. The pillows were way to big/thick, woke up a couple times throughout the night with a sore neck. The other thing was maid knocking on the door at 8am, a bit early for us, who were looking forward to a nice sleep in. We realized after it was written(not very noticeably) on our door key envelope. so remember to put out your "do not disturb" sign if you want to sleep in! I would stay here again though! read more

@reservationscom The hotel is clean and is is in a lovely setting, right on Lake Okanagan. It offers a basic buffet breakfast for $22.00 which includes: a couple of baked pastries, toast, small boxes of cereals, juice, coffee, scrambled eggs, chunks of fired potatoes, bacon & sausages. Easy & fast. After a busy day, we like to watch the news & get a sense of what is happening in the world. We were very disappointed with what was offered on tv. FOX "news" was the only news channel. As a Canadian, I would have liked CBC Newsworld or even BBC. When I asked why there wasn't any Canadian news on tv at the desk, they claimed that was all Shaw offered. I told that is not true. I am a Shaw customer & I get Newsworld, BBC, CNN etc. We were there for a conference & we met others who stayed at a nearby hotel which was brand new, offered a full buffet breakfast, had CBC Newsworld, CNN, BBC & parking. The cost per night was less than the Penticton Lakeside Resort & included the breakfast & parking. So check out the hotels before booking with this one. read more

Checked into the resort on December 29 2016. When hooking up the ps3 to the TV i found a old package of Canadian bacon back there. Informed and brought it to the front desk. The front desk assured me they would get back to me in three days. Upon checking out, i again informed the front desk of the ordeal. 3 days later....nothing One week later....nothing 8 days later, i contact the resort, the manager is still sick and the front desk lost the information i provided. 11 days later...nothing. i email again and they provide a free night stay voucher 14 days later...nothing. This was our second time we stayed there, only because our first stay there three years ago was absolutely fantastic. This time around we found that the air conditioning unit was extremely noisy but since we had no reservation and booked as a walk in and there were no other rooms available we tolerated this annoying inconvenience. The food at the Hooded Merganzer restaurant was very good as always and the desk staff friendly and accommodating. The only real negative comment would be that for a smoke free resort, all the guests smoked outside on their respective balconies therefore limiting us with our balcony usage. ( My wife has asthma and an allergy to cigarette smoke so this was a real concern) There is a lot of construction out front limiting the parking accommodations but we managed to work around this inconvenience. read more

This place could be a gem. But sadly it isn't. I'm here in august, prime time. The place is dirty, under construction, nothing works. The servers and employees don't know what good service means. The WiFi doesn't work unless you sit at the front desk. The ATM machines don't work. The card readers on the elevator and rooms take 3 or 4 tries each time. The sink doesn't drain, the shower has zero pressure. The air conditioner is either broken or just useless. The room goes from insanely hot to ice box, and back again. There is no thermometer in the room to set a temp. Just some 1960 style "hot-cold" switch that does not seem to do anything. The sliding glass door to go onto the deck won't slide without a pry bar. The railing on the deck is ready to fall off. The only thing this place has going for it is the location. Which it is clearly charging for. If I had one thing I could tell the manager...a little maintanence goes a long way. I don't know if the town is going up or down. Most of the folks I met in town were super nice. I absolutely would come back to Penticton, but this "resort" would need an ovehaul before I came here again. Allow me to add the additional items from yesterday. Shower has very weak, not low flow, weak pressure. No hot water. And the topper for the day. Employees standing in the lobby openly bashing guests. That is welcoming. The hooded mergenser, the places best restaurant, is pretty good. Maybe the only reason to visit this site. Don't stay here, just go to the restaurant. read more

Was so disappointed in staying here for 4 nights. Paid good money to have 3 king size bed LAKEVIEW rooms. We were told that we should stay in the "new building" as it was MUCH nicer than the old. WRONG. rooms may have been quite nice, but our LAKEVIEW was the parking lot, overlooking a noisy park with trucks and cars idling in the parking lot and a sliver of the lake. I would much rather stay in the "old building" as the lakeview there was amazing. Rooms seemed fairly good over there as well. I would NEVER stay in the new building again... was just so extremely disappointed. I don't know if I would stay there again. Having to pay for parking.. $10 a night.. on top of the expensive rate for a "lakeview" parking lot. Meh.. only thing I really liked was the pub and the restaurant .. I can stay somewhere else and walk over there. Oh.. and one more thing. My husband wrote a review on their site.. and the hotel sent him a message saying "for $30 more a night we can move your room".. ok.. first. we had booked THREE rooms.. at $390 a night. So because you give us a shitty parking lot "lakeview".. AND charge us $10 a day parking, you want us to pay an additional $30 a night? WHAT? And when he didn't answer.. they removed his negative review!!!! The more I read.. the more I know I won't stay here again. I won't recommend to my friends and family either. The rooms are good. Some with ana amazing view. The only problem i had is the security guy who was too soft to deal with a bunch of people drinking at the pool. June 8 9:30pm. Although it is a very clear rule not to have any food or drinks around the pool. But the security guy was harassing us because of having kids at the pool. Sometimes when you look different, you get treated differently even in Canada. :-( read more

I stayed here last weekend and did not find that they took the COVID protocols seriously. They had no one at the entrance to guide people and no one monitoring social distancing so there were often huge crowds at check in and waiting for the elevator. They had people coming in and out the same doors when easily could have avoided that. Since the elevators were so crowded, they had signs saying to take the stairs if you didn't want to wait for the elevators but no actual signage to show where the stairs were. The door to the stairs was labelled "beach and pool" so was hard to actually find it. People weren't recommended to wear masks while in common areas and did not take social distancing seriously. I feel like the hotel was also at full capacity with the amount of people that were there. They had a beach front area where they had sectioned off areas with pool chairs and had 1 bottle of sanitizer and a cloth where you were supposed to sanitize your own chair after use but not many people actually did this. Our room's air conditioning was also not working properly and was very hot - when we asked for help no one fixed it until the next day after having to mention it again. When we brought up our concerns upon checking out the staff did not seem to care. Would not go back here if you want to feel safe during Covid. Have been to another hotel in Victoria in which I felt very safe and they could do much better at Lakeside. read more

The main reason I stay here, and probably the same reason others do, is the private beach. Seriously. You may think "Oh, I'll make do with the public ones". Sure, ok. Here, there's no crowds, you have a nice cut of the beach, and there's a little bar thingy where you can order anything from a sprite to a cocktail to a burger delivered to your chair, where you can enjoy it in shade or sunlight. I personally enjoy the promise of that experience, without having to squeeze through oodles of shrieking small children. Oh yeah, there aren't alot of kids. So yeah, that's why I come here. The rooms are nothing out of the ordinary, and the customer service is decent. Everything is decent, pretty much. One huge bonus is having a view of the park across the street. The auditorium thingy has concerts frequently, and its great to just relax on your balcony and listen; its almost always been classical music, in my experience. I almost forgot: the farmers market. Absolutely incredible. Everything tastes and looks amazing and it's full of the honest, smiling faces of farmers and tradesmen. If you're in Penticton, wherever you are, go. If you're here, it's right across the street. Whoever you are, just go. Even if you dont buy anything, its an awesome experience. read more

We had paid extra for the lake view room, there was loud construction the entire stay. I was not overly thrilled to see my upgrade was the view of a ladder and construction work. When discussed with front desk I was advised they couldn't do anything about it. I appreciate when places acknowledge issues, but the staff were quick to dismiss my concerns. It was poorly handled to say the least. read more
