I am so glad I found Josh as my new go-to-guy for computer repair. Josh is tremendous! Late one Friday afternoon I stupidly thought I could be a computer repair tech and bought myself a new 3TB hard drive from Staples. Western Digital made the change over seem so easy that a Monkey could do it. Boy was I wrong, or perhaps I was just dumber than a Monkey. I physically installed the new hard drive, that went easy enough, downloaded Western Digital software and went through all the instructions for cloning my old drive to the new one. When I hit the final button, to clone my drive, the computer went into the Microsoft screen of death. NOT GOOD! In a panic, I began researching on my laptop and quickly discovered Microsoft has a new feature that prevents you from cloning a hard drive on Windows 8 (unless you actually know what you are doing of course). This was my fatal error, or one of them.. To make a long story short the Western Digital software needed to rearrange the bios in order to work but Windows 8 blocks this. Essentially my computer was "bricked" and would not boot because it wanted to boot into the Western Digital software, but could not, because Windows 8 blocked this from happening.,. Did I mention that this was my business computer.. D'oh..! In a panic I began calling anyone I could in the Portland area.. Josh was the ONLY ONE, who called back, four other computer repair companies never even returned my call. Josh did so in about 3 minutes flat. When he called back I explained my situation and he told me to meet him at his shop in 45 minutes as he was in Gorham on another job.. In another 40 minutes he had my computer fixed and all this late on a Friday in the summer. Being a business computer I really was not going to need it until Monday so I then asked about having Josh migrate all my data to the new hard drive. He agreed to do this for me, over the weekend, as it was clearly beyond my skill set. All in all I think he charged me $165.00 for fixing my "screen of death" mistake, moving 1TB of data from the existing drive to my new 3TB drive and re-partitioning it so that it would work correctly. We are brand new to Portland, and after a 7 month trip across country with my desktop in storage, things did not work properly. The fellows corrected some of my own foolishness in reconnecting the hook-ups, updated almost all the software, re-fit the RAM, and some "other stuff. " I brought the machine home after their "fix." When I was unable to connect my monitor to the CPU, Ben offered to come over to my home office (close by) and see what was now going on. Almost immediately, he recognized that my new Amazon connection cable I used between the monitor and desktop was not appropriate (very high res cable beyond my system's capabilities).
