There's a children's playground to keep the kids occupied, and tree-sheltered corners to just relax, virtually undisturbed by the traffic.

The park itself is relatively small, but it provides a very welcome break from the monotony of your usual suburbian street and has greatly increased the market value of the houses facing the square (lucky homeowners!) The square is never overrun by people, as is sometimes the case in other Dublin parks, so it is a great place to escape for a lie in the sun (if the sun is ever out, that is!) There is a pretty decent children's playground here, so Belgrave Square is very popular with mother's clubs and the kiddies. There are also two Indian guys who go running here every day, around and around the track. To me it seems like they're always there, running around the park. I'm not sure if they ever have a break. Look out for them next time you're in the area and let me know if you see them. They must be pretty fit!

You get great views of Dublin , Dublin Mountains and you can see Bray Head on a clear day. Amazing place for running , walking and cycling.. Great restaurants, pubs and stores also in the vicinity of the promenade. Be sure to visit Veron Avenue and walk out to Bull Island. This promenade rates 5 stars and more. You definitely won't be disappointed. It should be noted I am from Washington DC and served with the United States Marines all over the World and traveled all over the United States of America. I so love this promenade. Walking or running along here on a sunny day is one of those experiences…read morethat truly reminds you of the joy of life's simple pleasures. It's completely free and you can't help but feel better about the world afterwards. This is a fantastic running spot-it's flat, scenic, safe....and even more importantly-you get to run on grass. Pavement running can be tough on sensitive souls like me and it can be a struggle to find nice shock absorbing grass without ending up in a field full of cows and their excrement. Generations (probably) of runners have worn a little path into the grass all along the promenade so that it's both easy to run on and free of ankle-twisting potential. Just walking along is one of my favourite pastimes too. On a sunny weekend the place is buzzing with families, buggies, couples, walkers, runners, men with flags, picnickers....but doesn't seem crowded. The excellent cycle lane which extends to Howth means that there is no danger of being mown down. Benches and shelters along the route make it easy to stop and soak up the view. I love the weird yellow and orange exercise things. I plan on making use of them some day....when nobody is around to see! A stroll out to Bull Island is invigorating and it's very difficult to believe that you're still in Dublin out there. The only problem is having to come back over the bridge and back to reality :-(

On the outside of the world famous cathedral, lays a very elegant park. One that might get over looked if you not careful. The St. Patrick's Park has a charm that is hard to match. A sense of peace mixed with a classic atmosphere. When you first come into the park, it's hard not to get distracted by the cathedral being on the right hand side of the entrance. there is a Liberty Bell, by Vivienne Roche occupies a prominent spot in the park. The history of this park is very interesting. It is believed that this is the site where St. Patrick baptized the first Irish Christians. So, it's the place where Christianity was believed to have started in Ireland.

The central lawn is circular, circular grassy garden with a brick Celtic knot pattern with smaller gardens in the corners. One of the gardens is a memorial dedicated to the local Garda, with the names of all Gardai (Irish Police) killed in the line of duty being inscribed on a roll of honor. Protected by the stunning Chester Beatty Library and the Dublin Castle, is also home to three memorial gardens. Tucked into the corners of the space, memorials to the investigative journalist Veronica Guerin, the 2003 Special Olympics volunteers feature specially commissioned sculptures. Dubh Linn, or "black (dark) pool" referred to the dark tidal pool and evolved into the city's name as we know it today. The gardens are fairly new, being completed in 1996.

They are dedicated to the 49,400 Irish soldiers that died during the 1914-1918 war. Sadly for awhile successive governments did not highlight this monument due to them fighting for the British. Thankfully we have moved on from that era in our history. The garden was designed by the famous architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. It truly is a masterpiece of design. It intrigues me how back then the goal was to tame nature so that it is as rigid as a reserved Victorian person. Another remarkable feature is that, 'The names of all the soldiers are contained in the beautifully illustrated Harry Clarke manuscripts in the granite bookrooms in the gardens.'
