I spied a blue cheese from Romandie, a really potent Vacherin, goat and sheeps cheeses and, tis the season, raclette and fondue cheeses. This place also stocks beans from a new coffee roaster, Cococoro, located just down the road in Kreis 3. Wine, beer, among a few other things, are all neatly arranged for one's perusal. It was light and refreshing, yet not overlay rich. It was perfect for a hot summer day. They are known for their luxemburgerli but it was during the heat wave when we went and it was so hot that I wasn't in the mood for anything too sugary so I didn't get any to try which I really regret and would love to try them out next time I'm in town. Service was quite slow. We waited for over 15mins before we were seated even though there's tables available. And no one came to acknowledge us during that time as well. Next time when I return, I would probably opt to just pick up some luxemburgerli to go unless you're very tired and just want to find a place to sit down and rest.

The tomatoes are great but I feel they are more flavorful because they're older/riper than those at Coop or Migros. There is a good selection of fruit displayed outside and inside the store but I couldn't find my favorite: berries! No strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries. Also no kiwis or cherries :( oh well, there is a halal butcher and an amazing selection of couscous and a mega sized yogurt, not surprising. I loved seeing the diversity of the clientele but unfortunately I can't do all my food shopping just here and I'm looking for a one-stop shop which I will reluctantly have to rely on the Sihlcity Coop to fulfill. Like Lianhua this place is sizeable and the shelves are chock full of products but most of them are not part of my regular grocery/ingredient list so maybe I'll need to switch up my palate and recipe staple. There is a wider selection of household goods that you may need like cleaning liquids and napkins, etc than Lian Hua down the street. I've posted pictures of the seafood selection so will have to compare the prices to those as Lian Hua. They actually take credit cards which is great and there was a plentiful supply of herbs which I love--mint, rosemary, oregano, parsley, cilantro, and so on.

So, when I was done doing my other errand, I popped in and was pleasantly surprised. I was immediately greeted warmly and asked if I needed any help. I told them that I'd just like to look around. The shop is split into the grocery side and the gift/decor side. I happened to be much more interested in the grocery side. It's small but it has a lot... a lot more than I'd found anywhere in Europe in the almost 9 years I've been here. Tomatillos (almost impossible to find in my searches)... fresh and canned, some good quality tequilas, hand/homemade goodies of all sorts. I bought some chips and tamales and I'm really looking forward to trying them. My wife is jealous that I got to go but she didn't... therefore, I know that we'll be back soon.

The varieties are much better in the morning then in the afternoon. I do enjoy the coffees here a lot. A little on the stronger side, which I prefer. The wait staff is not particularly friendly but neither are they rude. They put up with my 2 yr old hyper active daughter every time (and the mess she inevitably creates) so I can't complain really. The Aragosta pastry I had this afternoon was particularly yummy and generously filled with custard cream. It was quite huge and a bit messy to eat but nonetheless, I enjoyed every bite of it along with my perfect cup of cappuccino.
