Gord and I had a late lunch yesterday at Piper Whiskey Bar in Glasgow. Gord had Chicken Balmoral (Chicken breast stuffed with haggis, wrapped in smoked bacon with a creamy whisky sauce. Served with thick cut chips or mashed potatoes.) and I had Chicken Goujons (Succulent strips of chicken, breaded then lightly fried until crispy, Served with chips and a side of sweet chili sauce.). Went for lunch, a beer and a flight. Excellent food. First time trying Haggis and this was definitely a great experience. Also ordered from the Tapas menu and all three choices were excellent. Beef in the steak and ale pie was nicely done. Tried it at a different bar the night before and theirs was dry. Tried the whiskey galore flight. My wife loved the Glenfiddich 15. I enjoyed the Lagavulin 16, which was more peaty and smoky. Staff was friendly and patient. This place was voted Whisky bar of the Year 2024. Ambiance was very nice. Relaxed. Highly recommended if you're ever in the Glasgow city center. It's in the St. George Center. read more

So, I am conflicted about this place. They have an insanely extensive whiskey menu, however, very little description on what type they are, which makes it very difficult to order as the only people who knows them would be the waiters and the service is sooooo slow. You can hardly get hold of the waiters. The falafels were pretty good. I tried a couple of scotches. They have live music sometimes which is nice. Also, I hate it when they have such extensive alcohol menu and they don't have their prices in there. Also, they have rotating beers but you have to wait and ask the waiters what's available and as I already wrote, it's difficult to get ahold of them. read more

Cute bar with lots of locals, which says a lot about how good it will be. We stopped in for dinner. My husband had the steak and ale pie and I had mince and tatties. They were fantastic! We couldn't stop talking about it when we left. We actually went back the next night and I had the bangers and mash (excellent) and he had fish and chips. Unfortunately the fish seamed mushy so a little disappointed. Overall I would recommend eating here! read more

My wife and I eat at Pipers last evening. Everything was great, good food, good music and very good service.

I have been here for lunch a couple of times, as it's near uni, and although more expensive than some other places in the area, the food is very nice. I rarely see other students in here, as it seems overlooked. There are often tourists though - being so close to George Squaer, and with a name like The Piper, it's bound to be popular! Both the decor and the food are quite traditional. Service is fast enough to make it a lunchtime contender, and the staff really can't do enough. If you want comfort food of a higher quality than Wetherspoonsy kind of places, then this is where to go! read more

I've only ever been in here once, and I had a really nice lunch. My friends and I had been at the winter festival on George Square and decided to duck in for some lunch - tradtional scottish fare was what we needed! Yes, it's tourist-tastic, but it felt nice and cosy - it wasn't full of stuffed Nessies, or See-you-Jimmy Hats or anything, but you can tell. The food was tasty, and the banter was flowing. A lovely place to spend the afternoon! And for the more daring? They advertise pole dancing and burlesque lessons. Wheeeee! read more

Went here for the first time against my better judgement after being denied entry some time ago for no apparent reason. Seemingly large groups of gents aren't wanted in here, even if you haven't had your first pint of the night. Maybe folk spill in here after cheap drinks in The Counting House? Quite overly Scottish in a purposeful way, but not to any degree that makes it unbearable. Far from being busy, I had a nice enough meal in here with a well mixed fresh orange and lemonade before venturing elsewhere. Polite and friendly barstaff in a bar that's nicer than alot places in the area but by no means the nicest. Worth a look. read more

Four stars for the staff and the entertainment, two (or less) for the food. When travelling with bagpipers, it is inevitable (and a cliche) that one ends up in a pub called The Piper not once but twice during a week-long visit to Glasgow. During our first visit, we had decent fried tidbits (fish, chips and haggisy things). Service was as good as could be expected for a big group arriving unannounced. Best of all was the two-piece band that was playing. The singer found out that we were Canadian and trotted out every Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot tune he'd ever heard. We had a singer in our group who loves the microphone, so the house band graciously gave our guy the mike for a set (Great Big Sea and Stan Rogers, since you're wondering.) Next visit was Sunday Roast night. Roasts du jour were beef, lamb or chicken. Lamb? Scotland? Why not? In a word, it was ba-a-a-d. This fella been a pack animal in life and overcooked in the afterlife. The three of us who ordered lamb found it inedible. However, the waiter agreed that it was terrible, took the meal off the bill and comped us with a very fine malt of the month (Singleton, since you asked.) I left hungry but happy... at least until the morning after. read more

Ok so me and my mum popped into the Piper for a quick bite to eat before she caught her train back home. We have been before and had a good experience. This time it wasn't so great. The menu has been greatly reduced from what it used to be. There is a lot of stodge on the menu and no sandwiches, the salads choice wasnt amazing either, unfortunatley our drinks order was taken before we saw the menu and we were also tight for time. The waitress took our drink order, mum went for bottled water and I went for a pint of lime and soda ( rock n roll... I know i know......), when my drink arrived it was a small glass for a start....I asked about the steak and wine offer and she was clueless...... I pointed to the poster right behind her head and she said that yes she thought it was available on a Sunday. In the end we went for burgers, I went for a cheese burger and mum went for chicken. I added the cheese which Took my burger to over £8 which I feel to be expensive for a cheeseburger in Glasgow ( I have had AMAZING burgers for less) alas the burgers were mediocre and although mine was advertised as home made it didn't look very home made. Mums was good and both of our sides of chips were good. The food was wells presented but was let down by the lack of flavour. The couple behind us were offered a choice of a tapas menu or a roast dinner menu on top of the regular menu, neither of which we were offered. I thought it may have been a time thing so waited until our table was being cleared to ask our waiter if the Sunday dinner and tapas menu were only available at a certain time to which he cut me off half way through my question and really arse-illy said 'aye on a Sunday '........ I managed eventually to ascertain that it was an all day offer and advised we were not offered either to which he shrugged and advised he would kick the waitresses butt...... I feel it was a training issue more than anything regards our waitress but because of the attitude of the waiter and the mediocre burger we won't go there again read more

I love this pub for its friendly atmosphere but, why, on a Friday afternoon were most of the tables reserved from 4 - 5 p.m. ? Some of the people didn't even stay! We thought it was, perhaps, a group of people but no - they were for individual people who weren't even eating. A very bad policy as we saw people come in, look at the reserved signs and leave. Certainly, not very welcoming. I wrote to the management but got no reply. read more

While the Piper (known until fairly recently as the Edge) is a charming and relaxing place, it always seems to be pretty dead at night. On my last visit, on a Saturday, when you would expect it to be quite busy, there was hardly anyone else inside - though the bouncer was one of them, seeing as he had nothing to do at the door. Not only was there still a bouncer but there was still a DJ playing and quite loud at that. Unsurprisingly it closed not long after 9pm - seems ridiculously early but there was no-one there to stay open for. It is quite pricey for drinks - two quid for two bottled beers is a bit steep. The Piper is still a very nice place - but its lack of patronage - hence lack of atmosphere - makes it very dissapointing. read more

The piper has a lovely atmosphere - seated by the fire. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Prices very reasonable for the city centre. We haven't decided whether to eat here as yet but looking around the portion sizes of the diners look a fair size. read more

Based on atmosphere, selection of drinks, and location this place is great to kick back and have a drink. It's not too rambonxious and the music is kept quite low. Live music was here on a Sunday which is good. They also have non alcoholic beer! read more

The waitress was pleasant and sweet. We had our toddler with us and our hotel called ahead to specifically ask whether kids were allowed. They told us over the phone yes if we ordered meals. We sat down and ordered 2 full main meals and 2 full pints. The waitress returned and told us sheepishly that her manager insisted we must order another meal for the child or we couldn't stay. This was unreasonable and different from what we were told on the phone. You just had the feeling that they try to take advantage of tourists. I explained the food would just go to waste, but the manager insisted, so we promptly cancelled our order and left. We didn't realize they already had a 3 star review. Not to mention that the beer selection here is terrible- you can find a better selection at the Tesco around the corner! Stay away. read more

Despite the touristic location at George square this pub is not too pricy. Food is fine, beers are nice, staff is friendly and atmosphere is good. The Piper was among the best pubs I've been to in Scotland. read more
