There are also flat playing fields for more informal ball games and running around. All the paths are smooth and flat and are ideal for children to ride their bikes on in a safe environment away from roads. My children's favourite part is of course the play area which is all built over sand so don't forget to bring your buckets and spades with you too! As well as spending a great deal of time here we also like to play games of Hide and Seek in and around the Rose Garden and try and spot fish and frogs in the Lily Pond. Be warned if you have very young children as this is not fenced off. There is also a model steam railway (open Sundays only in the summer) and a model yacht pond. The focal point of the park is the bandstand in the centre of the park. A small coffee shop and toilet facilities are also to be found near here. We always enjoy our time here and of course it's free!

The modern history of the park really starts with the Cobbold family, who owned the land and used the water from the natural springs to make beer. In the 1930s they donated the land to the people of Ipswich. Today the 67 acres are a mixture of parkland, fields, ponds, brooks and woodland. There is also an impressive play area (named after the ship Discovery that sailed to N America and founded Jamestown). The various footpaths through the woods and the parks are great places to walk dogs (in fact, if your dog is well behaved, the park is ideal to let dogs off their leads) and you can sometimes find it hard to believe that you are only a few minutes from the centre of Ipswich.

It is adjacent to the Visitor Centre which opened in 2006 from which you can relax in the cafe and enjoy views over the broad. We often come here to just walk around the Great Broad (about 3 miles) or for the children to enjoy playing at the man-made beach by the Little Broad. We enjoy watching all that goes on here as they have a full range of water-based activities. A great place to picnic in the summer and take it all in. Bird lovers will also enjoy a trip here. Cyclists too can enjoy a ride in safe and pleasant surroundings. I hope one day that their will be a bridge built over the River Yare so that easy access to the site can be made from the other side of the city in Thorpe St Andrew.

This was a great find!…read more We werent entirely sure what there was, i had just seen an advert about it and we headed over. It was so much fun! When we paid to get in Adult £6.90 Over 60's £5.80 Child £4.80 the very friendly woman at the counter gave the kids a sheet to fill in. It was a picture sheet, if you find the stampers dotted around the park and stamp the shapes, you will get a little something at the end. There was loads of things to keep us amused. There are beautiful gardens. Nature trails. Kids esp enjoyed the trail with the stampers on it. It was just the right distance for kids to walk. It was in the woods and right on the lake too. There are LOADS of places to picnic arouind the park, we were sat right on the lake. It was a superb view. You can take a rowing boat out on the lake, free of charge. We had planned to but the weather turned bad and didnt fancy being stuck in the middles of a lake in the rain! The childrens play area was fantastic, they had this giant cushion thing that looked really fun! But it was out of bounds when we got round to it because of the rain. There was loads more to do tho. A fort and adventure playground. There is also golf,putting and pony rides that you can pay extra for. In the building where you play to get in they also have benches and paly area for kids, a gift shop and a food counter. For the price to pay to get in , it's really good value. I could easily spend a whole day there. x

I love taking a stroll round Waterloo Park as there is so much to see. I particularly enjoy it in…read morethe spring and summer when the flowers are in full bloom as it has the most stunning herbaceous border. It is so well maintained and its sheer length is impressive. There are lots of recreational activities too such as tennis, bowling and a putting green. My children love coming here too and will spend ages in the playground or sandpits and in the summer the paddling pool is open which is very popular. We have also attended the Kidz Zone summer events here which keep the children happy and occupied for hours!

There is a big free car park, apart from days when they have special events when you do have to pay for the car park. Next to the entrance is some portacabin toilets and a little shop that sells drinks, ice creams and some souvenirs. I go there at least once every summer, even though it means three hour drive from London. The beach is a part of Holkham Hall and Estate, and boasts miles and miles of sandy shores, sand dunes and unspoilt nature. I can't think of a better place to relax and unwind, with picnic basket in hand. I make a point of visiting during the week, as there is hardly anybody about, so the feeling of peace and tranqulity is even heightened. With sun on my face, warm sand under my feet, ocean waves rolling to and fro, and occasional horse rider for company, one can only think of one word to describe the feeling - bliss. The entrance to the beach is lined with pine trees, which add a special feel to the place. It is hard to tear yourself from the beach once you are there, although the nearby Holkham Estate is definitely worth visiting too. There are parking facilities at the beach entrance, as well as Holkham Hall itself, at a very reasonable rate.

If you go to Norfolk you must go to this beach. Whilst it doesn't have pure, pure sand - your kids…read morewon't mind. They will love it. Park opposite the gates to Holkham Hall. You will have to pay for this parking. There is no other way to access this beach. You can park in the village but you risk annoying the villagers and you will have to cross a very busy and dangerous road. Park as close down the car park as you can. Once you leave your car and go across the cattle grid you are in for a very, very long walk. With little kids it can take easily 20-25 minutes to walk. You must take everything with you - there is a cafe at the bottom of the car park for you to stock up - because you won't want to return before the end of the day. There are no amenities or lifeguard on the beach. So you'll end up like a pack horse and leave room to carry one of the kids back! Also wear beach shoes. On the tourist information it will talk about the sandy beach. Well, it is sandy but with lots of stones and razor shells in it! When you get onto the beach you will love the vast expanse of it. No-one will be on top of you. You can walk for miles if you want. It's the ideal recreation beach. The water is cold but it is clean and realtively shallow. Leave enough energy for the walk back!

On the weekends there are often football matches played here too. There are some hard tennis courts as well and I think a bowling green, but the thing we make the most use of is the kids playgrounds. They have a separate one for children aged 10 and under and another area for bigger kids. They both have huge fences round which doesn't look that nice but does serve the purpose of keeping vandals out and so the equipment is well maintained. They are currently in the process of updating some of the equipment, although I hope they keep the old-fashioned ride-on horse!
