The Playhouse appears to be a well kept secret! Once we discovered it (just round the corner from The Everyman) we have chosen to make most of our theatre trips to there. In the past ten years they have a wider range of drama thanThe Everyman, and very often of a higher standard of acting and directing, with excellent sets and lighting.
These include dramas like Man of the Moment, Under Milk Wood and On Golden Pond, plus occasional operas in English like Lakme, and Gilbert & Sullivan and Christmas Panto.
What is so amazing is that these are all amateur productions, put on my different member companies from around the area. What a lot of talent never made it to the professional stage!
The interior was recently upgraded with steeply tiered comfortable seating and improved bar facilities. The average ticket price is about £12, with parking less than 100 yards away. It has quite a history, including being the municipal swimming baths! read more
