I personally think that this place is one of the best restaurants in Altus. Over the years it has gone a bit downhill, but it is still one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The service is always wonderful and there is typically no wait to be seated, even during busy times. The food is not the most authentic, but it's pretty good. They serve all of the usual Tex-Mex items, with a few extra gems hidden here and there. I always order the fried avocado with chicken. It's delicious. EVERYONE in Altus knows and has been to the Plaza at least a couple times, the food is solid and you can trust the service and dining experience to be good night in and night out. My go to is the enchilada plate, so that's all I can really testify to. With a normal size party I've never had to wait long but when I've gone with larger parties of 12-25 people several times, we ended up waiting about an 45-1 hour after we ordered to receive our food. First time visiting this restaurant. The service started rough with employees fighting who was going to take my table, but it slowly improved. The good: The food was not bad at all, however it wasn't great either. I ordered the guacamole as appetizer and it turned out to be fresh. The tacos locos was definitely tasty; meat was tender served with fresh corn tortillas. The beans were okay, just a bit high on the seasoning. For a restaurant so big and modern, I definitely expected a lot more. The bad: The amount of flies in the restaurant are simply too much to overlook. It's a killer!!! There are so many that it doesn't matter if you push them away, they will persist on being on top of your food. So so disgusting. Other customers seating next to me were complaining about it as well. They have got to do something about this problem or they won't be in business for much longer. I usually order refried beans and rice. The staff is friendly. Meals come with complimentary chips and salsa. I usually have enough for leftovers. They have a good drink variety whether you are looking for tea, soda or alcoholic beverages. They have nice tables or booths that have good lighting. For food alone, I'd try some of the other 'dives' in town, where the recipes are more authentic. But that's not to say to avoid this place, it's fine. In my experience, the service is amazing... I had dinner here recently and asked my server if they could make me a lemon drop martini or lemon drop shot. These are easy to obtain in Dallas. Unfortunately the bartender had never heard of this and didn't know how to make it. I expected them to just say no to my request but the bartender and server surprised me by going through with it. The bartender had to look up how to make it but I have to give her props for trying. My martini wasn't as tart as it should be but she got it pretty close. It was nice to drink something that reminded me of my favorite places back home. When I got my bill I noticed I wasn't even charged for it. It's possible they didn't know how to put on my bill because they don't have a drink like that in the system but either way I appreciated that so applied that est. $5 savings to the tip and ended up giving my server about 50%. Anyone willing to go out of their way for me like that will always be rewarded for it. read more
