Kelley, owner of Pono Pools, did an outstanding job of building our pool and helped us navigate…read morethrough all phases of the project from consulting on the design, obtaining the necessary permits from the county to the finishing touches of a beautiful waterfall and a stamped concrete deck. For the parts of the project that Kelley did not directly do himself (he did a lot!) he used excellent assistants and subcontractors and recommended professionals such as the architect for the formal design and engineering drawings and an electrician for all the electrical work. We hit bedrock at about 3 feet depth, which involved a little extra time and cost but it was no problem for Kelley: he simply rented the jack hammer attachment for his excavator and moved ahead on schedule. He was able to build our beautiful waterfall from the excavated rocks and we used the rest of the rocks for landscaping around the yard. Kelley is honest, professional and very considerate of his clients; for example, he promptly returned phone calls whenever we had any questions or needed to reach him. We could not be more pleased with our pool and would highly recommend Pono Pools to anyone considering building the pool of their dreams.

What was most impressive is that when we did have a problem with the plaster - due to bad material supplied by the manufacturer - Kelley made sure that the problem was fixed and the repair job was up to his same impeccable standards- on his dime. We heard his excuses and waited for him to return until our pool started looking like a swamp. His other customers jumped ship before we tried to find a replacement. Other pool companies were already booked up but Aquapulco said they would clean up the pool and start weekly visits. Aquapulco estimated that the initial cleaning would cost $550. Wow, but okay. I'm in a bind. They did a good job but the final total was $750. Ouch! Weekly maintenance was pricey, $85 per week plus chemicals. But, the pool cleaner showed up every week. The pool cleaner sent an email each week with a picture of the clean pool. For the first 4 weeks, he included a picture of the timer for the pool pump. There was no explanation why he thought I would be interested in the timer. Finally, the electric bill arrived and it solved the mystery. The cleanup crew had the pump running 24/7 for the couple of days while they worked but left it running continuously after they finished. That mistake cost me an extra $200, going to the electric company. When I called Aquapulco about it, they sent a repair technician to correct the timer. Nothing for the inconvenience or expense. Aquapulco sent me 2 reports that my auto pool sweep wasn't working properly. It was stuck at the stairs and wouldn't "back up". They wanted to replace the gearbox ($53.50, 10% over retail) plus an $85 service call for a 15 minute repair. I declined, since I was returning in a few days. I was warned that I would be charged an extra $25 per week, since my pool sweep wasn't picking up everything on the bottom of the pool. I arrived and I put a $48.95 gearbox in the pool sweep, but it didn't make any difference. I then found that my pool-to-pump valve was set to take most of the water from the skimmer, providing insufficient suction for the pool sweep to function properly. FYI, there is a flow meter available to show the amount of suction recommended for the pool sweep. I also found the skimmer flapper door was stuck closed, preventing floating debris from entering the skimmer. I fixed this problem and probably saved another $85 service call. On his last visit, I told our pool cleaner that I had just emptied the pump basket when I cleaned out the impeller. He said he would do it anyway, because he was required to do it. After he left, I noticed that water in the pool wasn't flowing well and saw that pump pressure was well over 20 psi. The filter hadn't been backflushed. After I did the backflush, we found another company to take over the maintenance of our pool. Honey Girl wanted to know why we were changing pool companies. I told her that if Mike Davis (the owner) wanted to know the problems we've had with Aquapulco, he was welcome to call me. He didn't return my call. I gave Aquapulco 3 stars because they do a pretty good job. But, evidently they don't consider themselves responsible if their mistakes cost you money. They don't really want your feedback, either.

Another repairman had to dig out the conduit in order to pull out the lights and replace them. We were not in town when Pool Pro built our hot tub. We asked for all natural stones around our hot tub, we got some fake stuff that looked very fake. We asked for an ON/OFF switch near the hot tub, we never got one. Instead, we have to use our cell phone to operate it. I gave up years ago on these guys. They didn't respond then, and they don't respond now. After spending then of over $120K for the pool and hot tub, and we didn't ask for too much. Just the two requests above. Never seen them again after they got our money.
