I have worked with the Porter Group many times and have had great success! Reading the other reviews really speaks to how many unqualified, egotistical, unrealistic job seekers are out there. My recruiter was honest with me about the job market conditions (which I appreciated) and also made suggestions about my resume. It is their area of expertise, not mine. I know how to sell my product, but I didnt know much about interviewing and her tips were extremely helpful. These other reviewers (who are looking for a job mind you) won't do what their recruiter asked? They didn't seem to want to give the information requested or make changes to their resumes. WHY???? No wonder you didn't get a job through the Porter Group. You didn't give them the tools they needed! I was more than happy to give them what ever they needed to get me in front of their clients. Lots of companies I interviewed with asked me to fill out applications even when the information was on my resume, and my recruiter told me this is common b/c the company wants to make sure the info is consistent. Then she said they also ask you the question IN the interview sometimes to see if your answer matches what you wrote. This is an interview technique, not something to waste my time. These other people who don't know how to work with a recruiter need to get real. Recruiters don't work for us (unless you are paying them I guess) they work for the companies that hire them. It is really annoying to see people whining about what a recruiter didn't do for them when they are obligated to do NOTHING. Of course they need us to satisfy their clients, but why would they put you in front of a client if you are refusing to do even the most basic task??? I tried to do what ever I could to be the VERY BEST APPLICANT so she would get me in front of her best clients and believe in me. Afterall, I am the product she was selling. She believed in me and got me a great position right out of college and then a higher level job several years later when I was ready for a change. Recently I used them when I was part of a nationwide downsize in my company. She did not place me in my current job but her advice certainly helped me get it and she was genuinely happy for me. She got me on a few great interviews, but I found the right match through a colleague. She even sent me a lovely handwritten note to congratulate me. I have sent her many referrals over the years and the feedback has always been very positive. These lazy people who gave The Porter Group bad reviews need to get off their high-horses and realize that these people are busy trying to please everyone. Whining because you left messages for your recruiter and they didn't call you back? You had to keep calling her/him? Really? And you are looking for a job in sales???? Get used to it. read more

I can only say great things about my experience working with the Porter Group. I was employed and looking for a new opportunity, and so part of my approach to job seeking (rather than just trolling job postings all day, which is time consuming and disheartening) was to try and find a good recruiter who could help me find the right position. So, I started casting my net by submitting my resume to a number of recruiters in the DC metro area. I probably spoke with around 20 recruiters in total, and as it always is with recruiters, some were good, some were bad- but Lisa at the Porter group was the very best! I worked with several recruiters during my process, but Lisa took the time to get to know me, what I was looking for, critique my resume, and give me guidance on what was realistic given my performance and career level. She brought me numerous opportunities, but always sought my approval before submitting my Resume for a position, and moved on quickly when I told her a particular position wasn't of interest anymore. We worked together for over 4 months, and it was a crazy time. I interviewed at a number of places, got to final stages at a few different employers, and even when I told her "this job is good, but I think there's something better" she didn't get discouraged or decide to stop working with me- she understood that if I was going to change positions, it had to be for something I really wanted, not just another job with a slightly higher pay scale. Some other recruiters were a little more heavy handed in trying to push me towards their positions, but I never felt that way with the Porter Group. If the right position had come up with another recruiter, I would have taken it, but I was secretly hoping that the one I ended up choosing would come from her, because I wanted Lisa's professionalism and willingness to work with me to be rewarded- although I'm sure there are times when it's not. I' would say I would work with them again, but I'm so happy in my current position, I'm hoping I won't have to. read more

I received a very enthusiastic voice mail from a Porter Group recruiter. And I have to admit I have a very strong sales resume. This is the second time a Porter Group recruiter had left me a voice mail message and excited about interviewing me. However, when I returned each call I could never get through to the Porter Group recruiter. I speak well, but I am fairly certain that a listener can determine easily that I am proudly African American. Each returned call by me was placed into each recruiter's voice mail, and I am certain that each Porter Group recruiter was trying to determine whether I was, in fact, African American or a member of some other minority group by listening to my returned voice mail message. Neither recruiter returned my call, after having called me... a process of actively screening minority candidates by voice, even today. I believe that the Porter Group is only looking for white candidates. If you have graduated from a predominately white university with a prestigious name which I had, recruiters are trained to use other techniques to eliminate you as a possible candidate. If you cannot be screened by your voice, and you make it through to the interview process, you "may" be screened later by a lack of interest by the recruiter after wards; even though on paper you are very qualified for the position. A position with an "anonymous company" that is fully protected by the recruitment agency. If the candidate graduated from a prestigious Historically Black College he or she "may" be screened immediately. Recruitment agencies are hired to do the employer's dirty work... and it is so with the Porter Group. The Porter Group shows all the signs of a racist private employment agency... i.e... it shows great interest in you "initially" as a candidate "until" they identify you as someone the employer told them that they did not want. read more

I first contacted the Porter Group over 10 years ago and my experiences have always been amazing! If you are looking for a sales job in MD, DC or VA there is no reason for you to work with anyone else. First, the employees of The Porter Group have always been 100% upfront and honest with me. That means when I first contacted them in 2002 I was told flat out that I didn't have a lot of sales experience and they would have a tough time finding a company where I would be an ideal fit. Properly setting my expectations, while it was not what I wanted to hear, was the right thing to do. I have always appreciated the honest and open dialogues that I have had with The Porter Group. The next great thing about The Porter Group is my account manager Jennifer Krinsky. Jen has helped shape my career in ways I could have never imagined. I have secured my last 3 positions using a resume template that Jen provided me. She groomed me to be successful in my interviews: here is the types of questions you should be asking, here is how and when you send thank you notes, here is how to close an interview. The CMO from my last round of interviews said, after I used Jen's closing technique, "I love the fact that you just tried to close me!". And here is the kicker... I have never been placed at a job through The Porter Group. I have gone through multiple rounds of interview with Porter Group clients. I have even received and offer of employment from one of their clients. But I have never worked for a Porter Group client. Yet, Jen and The Porter Group continue to work with me and help me build my sales career. My experience with The Porter Group has spanned many years over my career path/growth in sales (in fact, they have placed me at 3 very good jobs, each aligned with my goals and respective situations). I actually appreciated what some other reviewers deem as over questioning. I viewed it as my recruiter taking the time to actually get to know me and my history and goals, opposed to other firms that act like they are simply pushing resumes in every possible job opening, hoping to just get me an interview, regardless if it aligns with my objectives. Even though it seemed like an unnecessary burden at the time, going in to their office to personally interview with my recruiter was crucial to understanding how the process works and what I can expect. It was about an hour long interview, mostly going over my resume and goals, and also establishing the next steps. I walked away from it with many suggestions to improve my resume (which I thought was great to begin with) and actually made my resume 10x better. Each time I have called my recruiter to tell her that I am in the market for a new job, I always get a few decent positions within a couple weeks. Not every suggested position is exactly what I am looking for, but after discussing pros and cons, she fine tunes the search. I truly get the feeling that they are working on my behalf when I am looking for a position and am almost amazed that as a sales recruit, this is a free service. I have nothing bad I can possibly say about The Porter Group and my experience with them, but I can assure you this: With the Porter Group, I am 3-for-3 in getting a new sales job when I have solicited their help... Hello Job Seeker, I came to the Porter Group in early 2014 seeking a new sales position. I found them online and was contacted that same day by Caroline C. She was GREAT, everything you want a recruiter to be - cheerful, prompt and a HUSTLER. She placed me on about 5 interviews in 2 weeks and explained 'how it works' to work with a recruiter'. I was also looking on my own for a new position. I decided to take a position that I found on my own. My experience with the Porter Group was awesome, I worked with Caroline Cusack and I can only say good things. I had just graduated from college and didn't have any other experience than retail. Within days Caroline had set me up with multiple interviews, and I had a new job within 2 weeks of me working with her. When I first got a call from the porter group, I was fascinated by the aspect of a recruiter helping me with my job searching. However, my first recruiter was horrible. She did the intro meeting with me, then there was zero contact or follow up. I emailed her multiple times and finally decided to call the front desk to find out a good time to reach her. I was informed she left the company. This put a mindset of, "wow how does a company not inform its clients that their rep is no longer there?" I was given a new rep named Jennifer Krinsky. She is amazing! Called me and we had an intro meeting. She followed up with emails, phone calls, and had great insight to all the companies i was interviewing with. All companies i interviewed with knew her, and were on a first name basis. I have used many sales recruiting agencies in the past (all with great success). Kelly, with the Porter Group, was no exception. She gave me a handful of opportunities and wasn't pushy with the ones I said no thanks to. I was using two different firms (and my own job seeking efforts) when I received two offers, one from a lead Kelly gave me and one from my own efforts. Ultimately I accepted the offer from Kelly's lead and it has turned out to be a wonderful decision. Excellent experience with this firm. Kelly was active and engaging throughout the process. Only request would have been to meet somewhere closer to DC for the initial interview, as their offices are up near Baltimore. That said, she didn't give me any leads up there; only DC opportunities which I appreciated. Some firms I worked with in the past have shown me opportunities that were outside my interest, even after I requested not to look at those opportunities because of the commute. After completing the online information, I was contacted within 48 hours by Carol B, scheduled an in-person interview and resume review, and I was on my way to a new, better opportunity. Overall great experience that surpassed my expectations. I was hesitant to reach out to a "head hunter" but knew that I didn't have the time to look for a new job while still employed.
