Super cute place for a quick simple bite to eat. The restaurant is located within the Prairie Rose Inn and the servers were very friendly and attentive! The menu was simple, but had a variety of choices. I ordered a salad based on the reviews and it was okay, just a little pricey in my opinion for it to be mostly romaine lettuce. The okra was very tasty; however, for the amount you get I also think this was a little pricey. We also ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was probably the best bang for your buck and quite tasty!

****Hidden Gem**** This is one of "those places" where you go to get away from it all. Not really a traditional motel, not a bed & breakfast, but more of a "boutique" motel. Created in an old retirement center, the place has its own evening restaurant, and morning breakfast cafe. So, if you are like us, you can park the car, have supper, and a nightcap (or 4), and not worry about driving back to your bed. In the morning, the breakfast is much more than a continental donut. While it's not free, the selection of proteins, carbohydrates, and lattes is definitely worth it. Fair warning: the outside of the place looks like a rundown shack. But, I think that is on purpose. Because, inside, each of the guest rooms has its own decor. the general manager allowed us to take a peek inside three rooms, besides our room. If you are a history lover, you can spend hours in this place.! To top it all off, check-in/check-out is smoother than anything I have ever experienced.! We received the code to our room, and never had to see a human being, if we didn't want to, to enjoy our room. In order to check out, we followed the directions, and just left the door open a little bit for the cleaning service. I hope we can stay here enough times to stay in each of the 16-18 rooms, to enjoy each of the themes.

The restaurant inside the place, Rosie's Bar and Grill, is equally fantastic with great food and even better service.

This place is better than many Hilton Branded Hotels in my own town, San Diego, CA and even LA. The decor is very pretty and well appointed and designed. The place is very well maintained. The restaurant makes a very good steak dinner. The personal pepperoni pizza was not good, and the side salad was not good. The Old Fashioned cocktail here made by Vanessa is DELICIOUS and made right! The rooms were very clean. We did find a bed bug in the bathroom the morning after our arrival, it was alive and we put it in a ziplock bag. I figured that after we searched the room for an hour for any more of them, that this one maybe came in from a crack in the bathroom wall. We let the front desk know. We had no bedbug bites, not many itchy moments, and did not see any others after the one was found. The bedding was clean, the duvet was switched out with a clean one, and the bed was comfortable. After a trip to Walmart next door, we sprayed our room and rental car down with Zevo, a natural insect/bug repellant. This seemed to work well. We also sprayed disinfectant all over the room to reinforce. Overall, the gym, laundry facilities, room, bathroom, restaurant, and conference spaces were top notch. The staff was friendly after the first couple of says seeing us as guests. I do recommend staying here if you are staying in Hay, KS. Took a star off for finding the bed bug. I posted a photo and video of it moving.

The hair dryer didn't work and we were told there was only one extra available and it was currently used by another room. There was no microwave and we asked for another and learned "not every room has a microwave". The room was not cleaned during our stay which was okay, but at least the garbage should have been emptied. The "hot" breakfast consisted of instant oatmeal, bagels, toast and cold cereal. To top it all off, a cockroach scurried from the bathroom to parts unknown. There may or may not be someone at the front desk. As expected the sheets and towels were clean, however, another time we will stop in Wakeeny or drive on to Hays. Never again stay in Ellis.

When I checked into room 106 the toilet seat was not attached to the hinges. I informed the front desk which the lady promptly came and tempted 20 minutes to fix yourself. Spent about 15 minutes in the bathroom said it's so much fixed. All they did was take down the hinges did not reattach to seat to the hinges Ended up going to my car getting a screwdriver and channel locks disassembling the seed from the toilet popping toilet seat back onto its hinges, taking the hinge by pushing the pin in and placing the toilet seat fixed back onto the toilet and Tightening t back down
