For those who need and want to support this Artisan trade though Carl's is a wonderful little shop. It has that pungent leather aroma that elicits childhood memories and of course a rough handed, bent backed gentleman with a twinkle in his eye to greet you. Tucked away in Mosman Arcade, I was sent here by the hardware store in the hope of eliminating a stain from our foolishly light leather sofa. They lady who was working with the cobbler that day was wonderful. She recommended a product that worked a treat and what I liked best of all, although she could have upsold me a leather paint too, she advised against its immediate purchase 'Just see if the other thing works first'. Good old fashioned honesty.

It no longer resembled a good Chanel bag but looked like a cheap copy. I was devastated, it was a present so I don't know how much it cost but I didn't want to throw it out. I took to Village Cobbler at Baulkham Hills and he repaired it for me. He carefully removed the stitching and figured out how to repair it so that it looks perfect. I had been to several businesses of this kind and no one else wanted to touch it because it was a good brand and I suppose they didn't want to be responsible if they made a mistake. I always go to Village Cobbler now, he has fixed a pair of boots that my dog ate when he was a puppy, he has also replaced a heel that came off when I was overseas. Village Cobbler is owned by a Korean Cobbler and language is sometimes a problem but if you are patient and explain exactly what you want, they are magic!

I happen to live on Spring Street, so these guys are literally a hop, skip and a jump from my doorstep. So thankfully my laziness made the decision for me. And boy have I put these guys to the test. Alas, they couldn't dry clean my garment (yes I confess it had been worn and irresponsibly returned to wardrobe less than pristine). And I receive dress compliments from punters all day long. If you're in the Elizabeth Bay area, then there's no better place to go than Puddle Duck Laundrette on Roslyn Gardens. Take your baskets of washing and they won't bat an eyelid. They'll wash it, dry it and fold it - just like living at home again, except they will charge you, but it's not a lot. They also dry clean, so if your suits are in need of a dusting, they'll do that too! I guess it's the same as most laundrettes, I just like this one. They'll probably even let you do your own washing for cheaper, but I've never asked them about that.

Since I needed to go to Coles for groceries anyway I thought 'Why not?' Vanee was very friendly and helpful. They are called 'Express' because their sign says they will have your work done in an hour. And my slacks were ready in an hour! Vanee asked if I'd like to try them on but now, of course, I needed to get my groceries home so...no, I did not try them on. I'll follow up if there's a problem but so far, so good. Friendly. Competitive prices. 1 hour. How good is that???
