Jim Saad is just such a man. His little shop is just across from the ticket window inside Milsons Point Station and has been there for over 50 years (there are newspaper articles on him, he's part of the furniture). He's a good, kindhearted man who started off from nothing and he does a hell of a job on your shoes, he really knows his leather. I've got some boots in with him for resoling at the moment, when I dropped them off there were a pair of girl's boots on the counter and I could see him stroking the old leather appreciatively with his thick, dubbin-stained fingers. He's worked six days a week since arriving in Australia from Beirut, and from now on I'm a one-cobbler man.

I made it to the Met Center however, with all the construction going on, I was unable to locate Maurie's shoe repair. I called his shop and he stayed on the phone with me and walked me through directions down different hallways and staircases. It's a bit confusing if you've never been there before while steps away, I saw him in the distance waving his arms while on the phone with me.. it was so kind to help direct me to his shoe repair shop. I introduced myself and he was such a kind merchant. I told him what I needed and asked when I will be returning to Australia.. As a crew member with the airline my schedule can be erratic. He told me he can do it that day and to come back at 5 PM. I returned and my leather boot heel was replaced. He even shined my leather boots. They look good as new. I was so excited his prices are reasonable as well I highly recommend his shoe repair, especially to any fellow Flight Crew members that frequent trips to Sydney Australia.. Thank you Maurie. I'm assuming that after this sole wears out (and that's assuming that super glue fixes my current problem) I won't be able to get them replaced again as a result. Really unimpressed.

We recently lost a very sweet cobbler in Mosman because of rent increases. It's such a sad…read morereflection on our consumerist society that a) they don't make shoes worth repairing and b) we don't repair them if they do. For those who need and want to support this Artisan trade though Carl's is a wonderful little shop. It has that pungent leather aroma that elicits childhood memories and of course a rough handed, bent backed gentleman with a twinkle in his eye to greet you. Tucked away in Mosman Arcade, I was sent here by the hardware store in the hope of eliminating a stain from our foolishly light leather sofa. They lady who was working with the cobbler that day was wonderful. She recommended a product that worked a treat and what I liked best of all, although she could have upsold me a leather paint too, she advised against its immediate purchase 'Just see if the other thing works first'. Good old fashioned honesty.

He put them around the right way and didn't charge me for it. It's nice to know there are good, honest people out there who are good at their job! Will return here in future!

I went in to this place to get my key cut, but it was closed with a "back in 10 minutes" sign on…read morethe door. I waited a further 20 minutes before they got back. They didn't take long cutting my key but when I got home it didn't fit in the door. I drove all the way back to the store just to find another "back in 10 minutes" sign on the door (it had only been an hour since my previous visit). When I told the guy he had cut my key incorrectly, all he said was "are you sure?" then he grabbed the key, cut it again, and chucked it on the bench in front of me before walking away. No apologies, nothing. Completely rude! Especially after I had driven home and driven all the way back. I get home for a second time and the key STILL doesn't fit! Will not be going back here.
