We thought we'd try him after receiving a postcard for a lower rate than the $250 we were paying to a local tax firm for simple household tax preparation. Turns out, Michael Leist caught errors THAT firm was making for years costing thousands!!! Michael was most helpful in correcting the errors, filed corrected returns with the State for a modest fee, and recouped us a lot of money! We were hooked and have been going ever since. Michael gets a kick out of working with clients towards goals and progress relative to tax effectiveness because he knows the rules so very well. Now we are doing some investing with Michael Leist and that is going very, very well also. We will be doing more this year and years to follow. We could not be happier with The Leist Group. I was asked for an explanation regarding my cancelation of their services, if I pleased, again no response. The only individuals responsive to me were those expediting the movement of my funds to them. I emailed with questions about the 1-3% return on my accounts and heard "give it more time". Then I called to speak to my advisor...actually I wasn't sure who to call...and the response was that "That individual was no longer with Drake." I paid an absolutely HUGE amount of money in capital gains taxes in 2025. They had sold excellent stock I had purchased 30 years ago in a one-size- fits all plan I'm supposing. They did not provide any tax planning...They are a disgrace. Don't let the crumpets and tea distract you.

Tons of regulars who have clearly been coming for years and are on a first name basis with staff. No appointments, walk in only, though you can wait for a specific tax preparer. I was in and out in 90 minutes, the actual filing was a breeze and my tax guy was so nice. I got a discount as a first time customer, and you get the same discount if you refer someone. They also offer drop-off and pick-up later tax services. They run a tight ship, made filing taxes a breeze.

Slow call back times, feeling rushed on the phone, etc. If it was just the mediocre service, I could understand that because I'm a small fish. I was bothered when we pulled up, long lines for the drive-through, parking lot at capacity, and inside, long winding lines for the teller windows. But there's this odd inviting community feel walking in, it seemed like everyone in line knew someone else in line, we were the only strangers in here. Most of the customers and all of the staff look African-American, I'm inclined to think that this is a real community bank (it's located in an African-American neighborhood). I've never had a problem with customer service at any Educators Credit Union branch, but this location is much friendlier and more efficient than the others. The tellers ran through the line so quickly, people suddenly at the front of the line had to be prodded to step up to the next available teller. But this efficiency did not subtract from friendliness, I don't think I've ever met nicer bank workers anywhere. Frankly, it was a little weird.

The others are automated tellers but not ATMs. I don't like this trend of removing human beings from all face to face interaction jobs but if you're going to do that, make the robotic replacements faster and more efficient, more polite, and easier to reach.
