The teachers are kind and caring, and I know they've taken great care of our little sweetie, in addition to teaching her lots of Spanish. Junie uses the Spanish and English names of the colors interchangeably, and lots of counting in our house happens in Spanish now. I feel like that's exactly the point of bilingual education from an early age: training her mind to think of all the different options, rather than the translation way of learning a language. She also does many greetings and salutations. It can be a little challenging to figure out what she's saying sometimes since it could be English, Spanish, or just the garbled yammerings of a tiny human learning to communicate, but that would be happening even without the introduction of Spanish. But by far the sweetest exchange was the other day at The Wedge: she launched into Spanish with Juan, a longtime server there who I love and has always doted on Junie. I'm not sure what in her 2.5 year mind and heart told her to go for it, but he was moved, and she was rewarded with the sweetest and most doting version of Juan I've ever seen (which is really saying something). It's a moment I'll always treasure: he let her help him tend to his plants and his garden - normally off limits to kids. She was suitably impressed and it made me feel like Bilingual was absolutely worth every penny.

MedNoc Training College does terrible business. They are unorganized and unprofessional. I've…read moreattempted to take 3 different certificate courses with them going back as early as January of 2025 and it's been nothing but issues the entire time. Prior to them switching their application process to online, it was a paper application. They lost my first paper application with my SSN on it and I should have discontinued business with them immediately. Unfortunately, I attempted to enroll in a phlebotomy course in September. After paying over $400 for the deposit on a Friday I was informed that I would not be able to attend clinical rotation due to my job schedule. I called and told them the following Monday and I was informed by the receptionist Michele that I would receive my refund via check in the mail within 4 weeks. Again, this was mid September. When I didn't receive my refund after Thanksgiving, I began calling them. Each time I called I was only able to speak to Michele and each time she would tell me that Joel, the man responsible for sending refunds, was never in office or he was on the phone with "state". I emailed Joel on December 3rd and I never got a response. Still, I continued to call daily. This week I decided to ask for Joel's supervisor but each time I was told both he & Joel were in meetings with "state". I asked Michele to provide me with Joel's supervisor email address and she stated she could not because "he is the president of the college". I found that weird since every other institute of higher learning I've attended, I've been able to contact the president, whether by email or scheduling an appointment. It was on this same phone call that Michele also told me that no refunds would be sent until they were signed by Joel's supervisor, Paul, the president of the school. At this point this has been ongoing for two weeks so I sent in a formal complaint to the state board of education and the BBB. Please see next post

It was after these two things were done that I called mednoc training college again but this time…read morethe call was never answered. I waited on hold for 10 minutes when my spirit told me to ask my best friend to call on three way and wouldn't you know THE CALL WAS ANSWERED ON THE FIRST RING by Michele, which confirms that they recognize my name and number (previous calls Michele would ask "is the number you are calling from the best to reach back?")I never verbally provided my number to anyone at this point. Michele tells me that Joel won't be in until later in the afternoon and that Paul was on a meeting call with state, yet again. At this time I do some detective work and locate the name of the president/Joel's supervisor (Michele didnt give me his name, just his title) as well as his email address and personal cell phone number. Fast forward to 2:31pm, I call and a male voice I had never heard answered. I say "Is this Joel?" He confirms that is who I am speaking. He immediately tells me I can come and pick the check up. Not "the check has been mailed" as it was supposed to be but I now have to inconvenience myself to physically pick the check up. I drive to mednoc campus and after a short wait Michele comes up, I tell her my name and that I am here to pick up my check. She returns with a small packet of paper and requests that I sign for the check before it can be handed to me. Why am I being required to sign for something that was originally scheduled to be mailed to me months prior? Because of my continuos issues with this "business" I take a closer look at what I am being asked to sign and notice that my refund has been deducted by over $300. I ask Michele why there is a difference in pay and she informs that Paul stated due to me dropping the class after attending for "some weeks" the refund policy in place meant that I would not receive my full refund. I immediately tell Michele to get Paul so we can discuss the difference in our understandings of my drop time compared to when I enrolled and paid for the course. Michele lets me know that Paul has already left for the day, even though he knew I was coming to collect my refund. I exit the building without signing or taking the check. I call and inform Joel of my extreme unhappiness with their institute. I searched LinkedIn and found Paul's cell phone number number and email address that had been previously denied to me. I called his cell and he didn't answer nor is the voicemail setup, so I send an email detailing my issues. He responded to my email after business hours and atttached the schools refund policy. Per the refund policy, all monies refunded would be mailed via check within 30 days; which confirms an immediate breach of contract due to me being asked to come and retrieve the check and the fact it was well over 30 days. Another thing I noticed on the refund policy Paul provided was the statement (1 Three-Day Cancellation: All monies paid by an applicant shall be refunded if requested within three days after signing an enrollment agreement and making an initial payment.) This also confirms my thought that I should be receiving a full refund because I paid for the class on a Friday and cancelled the following Monday. Nora with the state board has also reached out to Paul and requested an itemized list of what I am being charged for. If I do not hear back from her at end of business Tuesday December 16th, she has asked that I call her Wednesday. December 17th I called and spoke to Nora. She stated that mednoc provided her all 6 documents she requested. She immediately noticed that the enrollment agreement was signed on October 10th but I made payment on October 9th, which I confirmed with my bank statement. The documents also show that I called and cancelled/unenrolled the following Monday, October 13th. She will continue her investigation but states it could be until after the new year. I inform her that's unacceptable given the fact the refund was originally to be mailed to me mid November at the latest. On Friday December 19th I received an email from Paul apologizing for their mistake and information proving a full refund to the original form of payment was issued. I also received a phone call confirming this from Nora. As of Wednesday December 24th I had not received the refund and according to my bank there was no refund status to my account at all. I decided to file a dispute with my bank showing proof that the refund was promised and I received my full refund on December 28th. While the main issue was resolved after many inconveniences, I'm still left with a bad taste in my mouth about this institution and I want others to be fully aware before they decide to further their education with this school.

The wash and deep conditioning went well but everything after was ridiculous. The young lady doing my hair did not have the proper tools to even blow dry my hair. She then begin to flat iron my hair knowing the roots weren't dry. I even gave a hit mentioning that I hate when people try and flat iron damp hair. When it came to cutting she had no clue what she was doing and began to rush so she could catch a ride home. My hair is thick and looked healthy and beautiful upon my arrival. When I left my hair was brittle and looked horribly damaged. My daughter took the blow dryer and dried her own hair and the girl had no clue how to cut. I requested to speak with the instructor before I left. I made her aware of my thoughts and how even her behavior was unethical. She came over twice in a 3 hr period and that's not proper instruction. She seemed happy with the work they had done and I don't understand how when a blind person could feel our hair and tell it had been extremely damaged. She offered for me to sit down and she quickly cut it. Lol, I told her I just paid $84 to have my hair ruined that's a joke. She began to explain how they are short handed and it's just her and she didn't know this happened. She offered for me to return at a later date but I decided not to because my hair was beyond repair. I went all the way to Houston Texas to have my damaged hair cut off and start the growing process over. Mind you my hair is 100% natural and I'm African American. My daughter graduated high school last year and was asking to take a tour here and enroll. After our experience she quickly changed her mind and there is no way I would pay for her to attend a school that shows a lack of concern for the customers because without customers who are you as a stylist? I've been coming here for over 10 years and this is the worst experience I've ever had. Most of their instructors have quit for whatever reason and these students are not receiving what they are paying for. Get proper help or close down!

When I checked out the receptionist charged me twice as much, when I stated the prices I told she made something up and said I had to pay the price she said. She was very rude and short. I called the next business day and was explained a completely different reason of why I was charged twice as much. I went in to just have them put a standard makeup application on me and my 13 year old daughter. They put eyelashes on me w/o my request and w/o telling me that it would cost over twice as much. This is the reason why they charged me twice as much, when I stated that I never asked for those or was told that they were extra and the receptionist didn't even give me that reason as the excuse for overcharging they basically told me tough, and that I received the product therefor I'm responsible for the charges regardless if I requested them or knew about them. You can tell this place has poor management and is not a very good environment for their students as everyone seems unhappy to be there and they don't care about returning customers. They are getting money not only from their students but charging rates that are almost equal to salon's when they are just a school. What a ripoff.

I was searching ideas online when I came across Hawaii Fluid Art in south OKC. The reviews were good, so we booked a session for her to create a 12"x12" painted canvas. The price was reasonable, and we knew it would be something she would love. When we showed up, the owner, Linda, was so nice. She excellent with kids. I mentioned to her that she was very patient, and she said she really enjoys working with kids. Honestly, that showed with her interaction with our niece. She made the whole experience very exciting and interactive, making sure that our niece was a part of everything that was done with that painting. She let it totally be our niece's art piece, but helped guide her based on her experience working with colors and the medium. She never rushed the process. The painting turned out beautifully unique, and our niece totally felt like it was her masterpiece! The paint colors worked well together, and there was even glow-in-the-dark glitter that our niece got to add to the painting. When our niece went off to wash her hands, Linda magically pulled out her black light so that when our niece came back, she could turn off the lights and see her showpiece glow. No doubt at all that we will return to Hawaii Fluid Art for another chance to create something unique. Thank you Linda!
