While organized, mostly, purple cow wants a premium price for everything. I don't suggest this as a stop on your thrifting runs. People were rude to those trying on clothes and elsewhere. Their leadership allows for or supports unpleasant exchanges with clients. While in line to buy something, I watched customers being treated poorly and left. I would skip Purple Cow. read more

This use to be a good place to shop for clothing. Now, the prices are so high, they match what you can find on sale at places like Belk and Penny's brand new. Many of their household items should be trashed instead of on the shelf for the price they want. No longer the best thrift store around. read more

As far as thrift stores go, The Purple Cow is one Baton Rouge's best. It's clean and well organized, which is more than I can say for many of the Goodwill stores in town. There's also a variety of products (toys, books, purses, shoes, home decor, CD's, DVD's, men's clothing, women's clothing, baby clothing, bed linens, etc.). I've always been especially pleased with their book section and women's clothing. They are a bit light on furniture though.... The staff is very friendly and helpful. Since it's a "christian" mission store (all the proceeds go to support the local Christian Outreach Center) you will be told to have a "blessed day" and there may be Christian music playing on the loud speakers, but if that doesn't offend you in any way, check the place out. This is a pretty descent thrift store! I find a lot of their women's clothing is priced slightly high ($5+), but they are mostly high-end brands that are pretty good quality. As for kids clothes, it is pretty much hit or miss for me. I have found some great buys of Gymboree, Gap, Ralph Lauren, etc brands, but like I said...hit or miss...you just need to check back frequently. Some of the deals I had gotten on those high-end brands of kids clothes was under $5. read more

I used to shop there all the time, but about a year or so ago I noticed a steep rise in their prices. I still shop there a lot, but it hasn't been as fun an experience as it used to be for three reasons: 1) the steep rise in prices 2) no longer plays Christian music over the loud speaker 3) difficult to get someone to help you look at something behind the counter read more

I've never been talked to about the Gospel there,the lady at the front desk went to extra lengths to find me what I needed and they've always been very kind to myself and my mother. I think their prices are mostly fair for being a secondhand shop,and it's hard to find things in my size (0) but they ALWAYS have stuff to fit me. I have been clearing my mother's house after my father's passing and have been dropping off box after box at this place. The staff usually snubs their nose at my donations and today, refused to accept anything in my truck because it was dusty. It's stuff that's been in the garage for 10 years but it all works. Apparently, the staff cannot be bothered to clean any of the items before putting them on their floor. I am done with this place. Heading to the dumpster, at least it's friendlier. read more

As a person that is not of Christian religion but alway in support for local businesses that help community I bring all my donations here. In comparison to big corporate giants such as Salvation Army or goodwill who have a chief CEO gaining profits the purple cows main goal is to give back to those neighborhoods and people that need it most here in Louisiana. I may not agree with their religious theologies but if they are helping our neighbors I stand behind that. Furthermore I like that they always have a diverse team, they have been nothing but prompt and friendly at both locations to me but do call before you make the drive they close Sundays and stop taking donations at 4:00 p.m. read more

It seems my previous review was wrong about one thing. There IS something worse than being preached to when I'm clearly not interested - and that's when the goons of a previously reviewed place think an average review isn't enough and insist on hate-mongering in the name of said place. I found you acceptable, Purple Cow, but if your spiteful employees or followers find it necessary to condemn me despite giving you an honest review, then you are clearly not the store for me. Or anyone else for that matter. Perhaps instead of trying to spread christianity to those who clearly don't need it, you should try reenforcing some of that love and respect that jesus was always talking about to your shoppers who are already christian. read more

Don't have a problem with the groups religious views, or the staff, it just didn't have the selection that I've seen in other thrift stores. (Apparently I got spoiled in New Orleans.) read more

Not much to choose from and I didn't find anything that caught my eye. Store was well organized though.

I can walk to the purple cow from my apartment. I went there once and kept wanting to go back again and again. I purchased a pink cat booksack for school at the purple cow. I purchased pictures for my apartment wall at the purple cow as well as mugs and glasses at the purple cow.I love the place. read more

If you want to make any donations I would suggest going to a different organization. The employees working in the donation area are rude and don't want to bother with you. I went to the Purple Cow during the week to drop off some donations. I drove to the back of the building to make the donations and their employees rudely told me that they didn't take donations after 4:00, which is not true. Their website clearly says Mon-Fri 9-5. They just didn't want to bothered with it and the guy just walked away. I told him the website showed different hours but he didn't care. I will not be supporting this organization any longer by either shopping or making donations. read more
