On our golf trip to San Antonio we played some amazing courses. The Quarry Golf Course qualifies as one of them. Some of the rock formations around the greens are extremely unique. I saw at least one hole on the back nine which should have had a fence around an area near the quarry with at least a 20 foot drop. Very cool design. The course was in great shape. I probably found this course more challenging than some of the others we'd played---at least based on my score. The course is well kept. Pace of play was good even though there was a group of women on top of us for many of the holes. I think we outran them in the final 2 holes. Easy parking. Close to the airport. They have a great clubhouse for food. read more

I came here for the driving range practice this morning and found it to be quite enjoyable. This was my first time at the Quarry and my second time ever golfing, so I was a little confused as to how the entire process worked. The staff were helpful with directing me as to where to go. It's South Texas, so it was obviously hot outside and there was no shade around, but they did have the driving range on elevated ground, so you at least got a slight breeze. The pricing for range balls seemed comparable to others in the area. Overall, a great experience. I can't speak for the golf course as I did not venture out that way today, but stay tuned and I might just come back and update my review once I get better at golf and try my luck at a round of golf. read more

The front nine basically is a warm up to the challenging holes on the back nine. That back nine inside an old quarry leaves almost no possibility of wind but the holes are challenging enough. It would have been nice for a bit of a breeze tho. All in all, the guys had an amazing time playing and want to return. The course Marshall keeps everything starting and running smoothly. read more

My group has been coming here from Houston for 20 years. Frankly I was appalled at the condition of the golf course. Tee boxes were chewed up with divots and it was obvious the grounds crew was not filling them on a daily basis. The greens appear to be infested with poa annua and are extremely grainy and SLOOW. The fairways were decent. While I understand we are currently in drought conditions, the condition of the greens is unacceptable if you're going to charge people $100. On the bright side, the food and service in the grill was excellent (the only reason for the 2 stars...). Personally there are other better options in San Antonio. read more

These folks are getting better and they have added a bigger banquet room. Fred the chef has been here since day one. Our server was the delightful Elle who is celebrating her first anniversary here. The fish and chips were tasty beer-battered cod. The tomato bisque soup with sour cream is a regular menu item. The Cole slaw had a hint of horseradish and a dash of sweet. This golf course is terribly run. We came here because of the great reviews but now we will probably never return. We are a group of 6 and were told by the club house that we could golf together as long as we didn't slow down other groups. As we finished the first 9 holes we were stopped by the Marshall and told someone complained that we had 6 people together and it wasn't allowed. Then as we were half way through the 2nd 9 holes a group of 4 guys cut across the course and got ahead of us. Then they will proceeded to take 10 minutes or longer per hole. I tried calling the club house and the general manager Dustin. All calls went unanswered. I find it pretty ridiculous that we are held to a standard but some other people aren't. As I have stated above we will not being coming back to this place. read more

This is one of my favorite courses in San Antonio! If your from the area, this is a great option to go play. You won't be disappointed, the course is always in great condition, the driving range is great, as well as the chipping and putting greens! The food is pretty good as well! Hard to find something wrong with this golf course. It was fairly forgiving, yet challenging at times and still fun. One of the cooler courses I've played in terms of scenery -- although I was told it helped to play on a cooler day, as the quarry can hold heat. I'm tempted to just play here again my next time through town. Only complaint is the greens were a bit bumpy and tough to read, but just that time of year. read more

My wife Levitra and I have been trying to share the things we love with each other since I retired in October. I signed her up for golf lessons with Coach Dawg in early March. Her game has improved by leaps and bounds since, it's truly remarkable. Last Sunday we went to El Jarro after church. Levitra left her phone on the table and I noticed she kept getting texts from "Daddy". My father in law is 84 and has dementia and they haven't spoken since 1997. Come to find out"Daddy" is COACH DAWG and he's been HAVING SEX WITH MY WIFE since MID-MARCH! Our kids are grown, I can't tell them about it. I confronted her and she scoffed and mocked my manhood. Exceptionally unprofessional behavior on the part of Quarry golf staff. Would give ONE STAR but, while unethical, Coach Dawg is a good golf coach and I've enjoyed playing here for years. read more

The Quarry is my favorite golf course to play in the San Antonio area....and yes, I've played them ALL. I try to play this course several times a year. My understanding is that the course's back nine was built on top of a defunct rock quarry pit (hence the name). Located in the middle of the Quarry Market area (north of downtown off Hwy 281), it is a wide open, very scenic and challenging yet fun course....absolutely beautiful. It's location puts it in close proximity to downtown, the airport and plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. One of the main reasons I LOVE this course is because there are zero....none....el cero trees. Lol. But, do not let the lack of trees fool you...this course will still kick your butt. If you miss the fairway...the rough....can be extremely....ROUGH!! There are also water hazards on several holes....so be forewarned. PROS: Hands down...the most attractively unique course in San Antonio....great location....price is not too bad....the course restaurant's food is wonderful (in fact I may do a Yelp review on the restaurant just because of the Eggs Benedict-Spanish Style....delish!!!). Also...I've read a couple of reviews that complained about trying to set up a group outing...well, I've never had a problem myself...in fact, just a couple of weeks ago...the Marshall let us play with 5 golfers in my group. CONS: When busy....sometimes customer service can be a bit rude. It's certainly annoying but the course more that make up for the rudeness with its beauty and layout. Also...no drivers allowed on the driving range...that sucks...because my driver needs the most attention. Also, I only play this course from September to May....without trees, in the middle of South Texas and built on top of a rock quarry....during summer months....the heat will kill you....seriously, if not prepared....you could literally die out there....HOT af !!!! RECOMMENDATION: Outstanding urban golf course. When I'm asked by visitors (or locals) where to play golf at in SA....without hesitation my response is, "The Quarry Golf Club....you will not be disappointed." The greens were probably the worst I've played in all of San Antonio.

Only those who truly love this game would subject themselves to potential heat stroke for the chance at a round of golf at a top of the line course for $29! This was the steal of the year so far. The greens fee included individual cart stocked with cooler and club/ball washers and a bag of range balls. For those of you in the know, you've paid $18 for a round before on a much lesser course and after a bucket of balls you were at $23 bucks or more anyway. The only catch was starting after 12pm during a summer which has brought us about forty six 100 degree days thus far. After applying the adequate amount of sunscreen and stocking up on water we hit some balls for half an hour and proceeded to tee off. The front nine requires you to hit straight and keep it in the fairway. Like a true links course the fairways are narrow and get narrower as you progress through the course. Although the haystraw rough may not look as intimidating as a glen of oak trees, you will not have to worry about hitting out of it because you will not even find your ball! The numerous fairway bunkers and sentinel like green side bunkers make it a challenge even if you get a good strike. The flowing fairways make it easy to bump and run to the greens but once there the slopes and speed make it almost impossible to hole out in one or two. You might have to live with a few Tripas. The back nine is simply gorgeous, set within the confines of the rock quarry. You will definitely want to take a few snapshots here. Now that you have warmed up on the first nine, the course demands a lot more accuracy and distance from you. Almost every hole on the back nine requires clearing a ravine, a creek, or a 150 yard thicket of haystraw to get to the fairway. This is not a course for beginners. Also the par 3's get more demanding at 165 to 200 yards. There are not too many ridiculously long par 5's but the par 4's are very challenging and force you choose the proper club and KEEP IT IN THE FAIRWAY! The back nine reminded me of La Cantera and the conditions of the fairways and green were some of the best I've experienced here in San Antonio. You just can't beat playing a top notch course that normally costs $75 for $30, even with the oppressive heat. I hope they run some specials in winter because this course would be fantastic on a crisp January day. read more

We stopped by for breakfast after trying Snooze and deciding NOT to wait for an hour. We were immediately seated overlooking the back nine, and the view is spectacular for an old quarry. Our waitress provided us with excellent service. The food was above average, with the eggs benedict as the standout. I asked for one spanish style and one classic ham and hollandaise. They accommodated me but said there would be a slight upcharge. I thought no problem, until I saw the $5 upcharge on the bill. To me this was a little excessive. My husband had the American Breakfast Platter and he had no complaints. The drinks we ordered (lemonade, orange juice) we're fair at best. There are better options nearby but if you don't want to wait, they are a good option. read more

The view is nice and we were waited on quickly. They got the order wrong, it happens. The food was bland and the chicken was tough. My Partner has played many rounds of golf here and since we were in the neighborhood they suggested it. They were really disappointed in the whole experience. Before this they had nothing but good things to say about them. It was my 1st time eating there and my last. My Partner will eat there again I'm sure with friends after golfing. I LOVE visiting the Quarry Golf Club for food and drinks! I feel that it's truly a hidden gem! I feel people aren't aware that there is a restaurant located within the main building. The restaurant is open to the public. There's indoor dining but I recommend weather permitting of course that you sit on the patio. The view of the golf course is lovely and calming. Prices are reasonable and the portions are adequate. The service is always great and everything I've ever tried was delicious! Today I had the half sandwich/soup combo. Today's soup was Chicken Corn Chowder. It was delicious, hearty and full of chicken! My choice of sandwich was BLT. There's live music on Fridays and happy hour all day everyday! read more

My experience was incredibly disappointing. For as much as we paid, I would've expected greater service instead of being ask if it was our first time on a course based on their prejudice judgment. The course itself was dreadfully boring and no exciting scenery. There was also no help with our clubs at the end of our session. I will never be going back. Clubhouse food? Normally, you'd never get me through the door to even try it. Youthful memories of wimpy fries and bland burgers of country club food have kept me from trying the Quarry Golf Club. Fortunately, a friend had none of my bias and chose the location for our bi-weekly wine group. Our party of eight dined on a Wednesday night when all wines under $100 were half price. Although the wine list was not extensive, there were some great choices and they were priced reasonably. As to be expected, the menu consisted primarily of sandwiches and salads. The club sandwich was well prepared and generously sized. The same could also be said for the rueben and the French dip. There were some items from the grill available, but I hesitantly decided to order the fish and chips. Fantastic! I didn't expect much, but the quality surprised me; the coating was light and not greasy. Service was cordial and competent. The place apparently has a great happy hour and the views from the patio at sunset are beautiful. We originally had a reservation to be outside, but the weather did not cooperate. Our indoor table was almost private, in a closed off area away from the noise of the bar. It would be a great place for a casual business meeting. read more

One of the most unique courses I've ever had the chance to play - the Quarry in San Antonio is a beast. The course is in very good condition, has some long carries from the tee box, and is narrow as hell. If that didn't make things hard enough, the whipping winds made this place a doozie. The back nine is so awesome, set inside of an old rock quarry. The gorgeous green fairways, tee boxes and greens against the dark grey slate backdrop is quite the setting. I almost had my first hole-in-one here...actually an errant shot off of the quarry rock that landed inches from the cup!! A really cool course, you will never play anything like it...ever. read more

This review is for the restaurant at the Quarry Golf Club. My husband and I were on our way to another restaurant in Quarry Village on Labor Day when I noticed a sign advertising the wonderful view the restaurant had. We've passed by this a hundred times and I'd never thought of it, but I took a peak past the clubhouse and it really did look like a nice view of the course. I made a mental note that we'd have to try it some time. Well our original restaurant selection wasn't open on Labor Day so I said "hey! The golf course has a great view!" Hahaha! My husband thought that would be a great place to try and at lunch, not so intimidating. Entrees were $9-15 and there were about 10 sandwiches to choose from. I chose half a chicken salad sandwich and a cup of soup. The waiter said there was a choice of a traditional sandwich style or I could get it 'stacked' which was two pieces of toast with jam and a scoop of chicken salad on a bed of lettuce. I'll say this now. GET. THE. STACKED. I don't know what kind of jam was on that toast of what kind of bread that was, but I LOVED it! The soup (chicken vegetable) was quite tasty too. The chicken salad had fruit in it and it was tasty, but it was overshadowed by it's supporting actors. My husband got the french dip which was on special that day. He enjoyed it quite a bit. I had a couple of the fries and they were pretty run of the mill, but tasted good. I won't lie, I was a bit skeptical. It seemed like this restaurant could easily ride on 'image' or 'convenience'. The food is legitimately good. I'd like to say I'll be back, but there are SO many great restaurants in that area and we don't go out to eat a whole lot. I will say that if someone asked if I thought they should hold an event there, I would say "Totally, and make sure you get that toast and jam!" read more

Looking for a good HH place in the Quarry or Alamo Heights, this is it! Surprisingly, the back patio (and restaurant even) is hardly ever busy. Head there at sunset for a beautiful view overlooking the golf course. Great drink specials and above average service. Food is so-so - great sliders but chicken diablos and guacamole are hit or miss. Friends and I flew in from out of town and golfed here this morning- it was average at best. Here's a list of my complaints: 1. I paid a reservation fee online for the tee times and the remaining balance to be paid this morning. I had to pay the full $85, which totaled $92 ($7 reservation fee). 2. The pro shop and restaurant was closed for renovations. Had I known that, I would have gone elsewhere. Well played by not notifying me prior to this morning. They should have discounted the golf game! 3. We had to be escorted downstairs to the restroom at the turn due to the restaurant being closed. 4. Credit cards have to be processed via carbon paper, yes old school 1980s style. 5. The carts are old and worn down, no GPS, coolers without ice, and a photocopy paper of the hole placement. 6. Shall I keep going? I have been to less expensive courses that were much, much better! Definitely pass on this course. read more
