When they showed up for the estimate, they took pictures of all the work that was needed and as I pointed out things that I thought someone else would be needed, they said they could handle that too. Their estimate was very fair so I hired them right away. They came early, notifying me of their arrival beforehand and got to work right away. They took a hopeless yard that looked like a jungle and turned it into a yard that I hadn't seen since I moved into my house. The right side of the house, if you look at the pictures, was horrible. Now it's perfect! Not seen in the pictures is the left side of the house, where weeds were coming up through the concrete tiles, those are now all gone! My backyard patio also had bad weeds coming up and now you don't even notice anything bad was there. They are such great people too - fun to talk to and nice people. I decided to hire them to do maintenance on an ongoing basis because of how happy I am with their work. I had responded back via text that I was concerned that he would not be able to fully clean the gutters due to the cold weather and subsequent ice that would inevitably be in the gutters. He responded back saying he cleaned gutters that day and didn't have a problem and that he would like a check in full payment at the time of the service ($405.00). At approximately 7:30 am on December 20th (approximately 27 degrees outside) he and his crew showed up and told my father that he would not be able to clean the gutters and to remove $50 from the check. I was upset since he has known since the summer and the previous year before that I wanted him to clean the gutters at the time of the fall clean up (which should have been scheduled sooner). Due to the clean up being completed so late in the season, I am not able to have anyone come to clean the gutters until the cold season is over, so naturally I am upset that he could not follow through with the agreed upon service. I texted him that that I was completely disappointed and felt taken advantage of that the full service could not be completed (as predicted the previous day). I had written a different check in the amount of $355.00 that morning to reflect the $50.00 difference and since I was getting ready for work I asked my father to give it to him. Unfortunately, my father gave him the wrong check and upon finding out that the wrong check was given to him, I texted him to ask for a return check of $50. He responded back stating that he would mail the check. As of December 28th, I still had not received a check but noted that he cashed the original check of $405.00. In hoping there would be good faith, I waited until today December 28th that I would receive that check. However, I have not. It is so unfortunate to have a lawn care service operating this way preying upon and taking advantage of people who hope that small business proprietors hold the same responsibility, integrity and value that consumers expect with all community transactions. I have used him for 2 seasons, (he bought the company from my previous lawn service person who I had for well over 6 years) and I have always paid promptly for his lawn care service. I even reminded him that he did not bill me for the 5 October lawn cuts.
