I have shopped at the Holden Rd location in Greensboro, countless times. I have referred many of my friends and clients here, over the years. Today I purchased several items, including a $900 couch. I live 7 miles away and the delivery charge for any distance up to 15 miles is supposed to be $80 (per the employees). The owner, Maria, told me my area would be a delivery charge of $150, because the "distance was far." She said she'd "discount" the delivery to $100. When I clarified the normal price with the employee, she suggested I talk with Maria again. I showed her my phone, with Maps open, showing a distance of 7 miles. She grudgingly agreed to $80 as if it was a favor. When I got home, I realized the couch was too large for the area in my home. My fault for not measuring, but since the couch hadn't left the store, I called to ask if I could cancel the sale. Absolutely not, the employee said, she "never gives refunds." When I spoke with Maria at the store, she said I shouldn't wait to purchase the couch, because someone else would buy it since, "it's such a nice couch." I spoke with Maria on the phone and reminded her of that statement, but she didn't care. NO REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON. She offered to consign it for me (!!!). No thank you. She said "I can refund you the delivery charge, that's it." I agreed to take delivery of the couch and put it in my basement, while I try to sell it to someone else. After it was delivered, I called to ask when the delivery fee refund would be processed. The employee was in the process of doing the refund, when Maria said no, they weren't going to refund the fee after all. She claimed she was offering to refund the fee if I consigned the couch with her. I reminded her that was not what she said, at all. Regardless of her failure to communicate, she still refused to refund the $85 ($80 + tax). As many consigners have stated, customer service is non-existent and as I found out today, the owner is unethical. read more

I've shopped here several times and decide to try to sell some items I no longer needed. Setting up the consignment was easy, but upon returning at the end of the contract, the customer service was non existent. Having some items that sold in the prior month, they had already cut a check. Some items had just recently sold, and they were less than cooperative to cut a check for those items, telling me I "had to close my account" and threatening that they'd never let me open another or sell anything there again. I don't know what kind of bully business model they run off of... but if they owe me money, I don't feel they should be making threats. And honestly, if that's how they're going to operate, I have no interest in ever doing business, buying or selling, again! To top it off, there were a few items left that had not yet sold, and when I asked where they were, they simply told me, I'd "have to look"! If you've ever been there, unless you're looking for a sofa, finding anything small is literally like finding a needle in a haystack. With multiple rooms packed with clutter, like a hoarders nightmare, they could offer me no direction, and despite being completely void of customers, they refused to offer any assistance, telling me I had to find the items myself. After looking for 30 minutes, with no luck, they simply said "they'd probably been stolen". So no only do they not have any respect for their customers abs the people actually helping them stay on business, they apparently could care less if your product is stolen from their store. If I could give the Red Collection zero stars, i would, but Yelp does not give that option. Despite having several items perfect for consignment, I will never do business with this store again, and I will tell all my friends the same. Very big wear house with LOTS of different booths. Everything is very fairly priced and there is a station where you can wrap up your breakables. I like that because sometimes places don't wrap things well and I could wrap it at well as I wanted. Wish I brought a bigger car with me so I could buy more stuff! read more

We had a bad experience consigning our furniture with the Red Collection. They were very disorganized and at times quite rude ( other times very nice). It appears that they are far too busy to provide decent customer service. If they ask you to "hold" on the phone, it's a safe bet that no one will ever come back to answer your call. Red Collection is far too busy to be professional or provide good customer service. I guess this is the cost of success. Given that it's a 60/40 split on the sales price and the bad experience of consigning, I could not recommend using Red Collection for this purpose. From a buyer's perspective, Red Collection is a great place to find vintage and value pieces. It is fun to wander through the maze of items. read more

I dropped off a couch of my mother who passed away hoping to sell it. I checked back a couple of times to see if it sold and it had not. I forgot about it and when I was recently in the store I asked what happened to it. They said it had sold, they didn't tell me the amount, but because it had been sold months ago they indicated they would not give me the money. I asked why they had not called me to tell me it had been sold and their answer was they do not call people. You have to keep coming back and check to see what the status is. If that is the case why do they ask for a phone number!!! I think this is a scam and quite frankly would not trust these folks. I stopped by Red Collection today because my friend has gushed on & on about it recently. I was disappointed by the very small parking lot. Most people were having to turn their cars & trucks around & people had to run around so they wouldn't get hit. I also hoped to find some hip, modern furniture & lamps in the warehouse, but everything seemed very dated. I will say the place was neat for a warehouse & rooms are set up by ambiance, so that was good. I will probably only return when my friend drives and I'll help him look for items. read more

With so many consigners sharing their experiences of not being paid or having their items sold at prices they did not agree to, I'm wondering if anyone has taken them to small claims court? My wife loves thrift shopping; me not so much. However, The Red Collection does have a pretty good variety of things to look at, even for the non-excited shopper like myself. We've found some pretty good deals there over the years. They seem a little more particular about what they'll agree to consign than most of the other thrift shops and I like that. read more

Purchased a small inexpensive teapot from the Mill Street Red Collection yesterday. The lid was taped down and neither us nor the sales clerk opened the lid to inspect the teapot at the store. When we got home and took the lid off, we noticed that there was a chip on the inner lid. I called and talked to the store manager and she was adamant the store policy is no returns or exchanges after sales. I told her that it was hidden damage and that we get some consideration for a return. Absolutely no negotiation and she said I was stuck with it. I stopped by the red collection on Friday afternoon actually looking for a sofa but instead I seen a bar upright bar that I liked so I went home measured and came back and I purchased the bar.So I went back again and asked them would they sell or consigned my older bar they looked at me like I was crazy and then I showed them pictures of my bar The lady took it to the boss lady can you believe that the boss lady told her to tell me that she didn't want to mess with mine that she didn't think it would sell.so I told the lady I said well you didn't know the bar I just bought was going to sell.Plus my bar look better than a whole lot of stuff in there and then she said it was old and vintage but that's what y'all do I was really insulted just spending $300 in there. When you put things on consignment you just let it set and the price start off one thing. You mark it down as time go by.They wouldn't give me an opportunity to bring it.That was really poor taste when they have stuff in there don't look all that good that was my last time ever going there and I'll never recommend them to anyone read more

A fun place to poke around with a friend -- but don't go there looking for a particular something, just go with an idea and see what presents itself. I appreciate that they stage vignettes, assembled rooms of a sofa, some chairs and lamps, and art on the walls. It's better than the thrift store bent towards a row of indistinguishable overstuffed chairs. You never know when you'll walk around the corner and see a treasure freshly claimed from Versailles. (As my friend put it, "I love it! And it comes in gold!") Or what you think might be a longish sewing machine table turns out to have a turntable tucked within. I just experienced the most deplorable customer service ever! I called to confirm that the Red Collection was excepting consignments today prior to driving all the way to their store. Upon my arrival, I proceeded to what appeared to be the consignment area. One associate was actively doing payroll so I could understand that she was busy however she was the first to respond when I ask for help and she called to the other associate to come and assist me. The associate came and looked at my item and in distaste and said "I'm not sure if we're excepting anything like this" she never lifted the item to look at it outside of the packaging then she said "I'm not sure we're taking anything at all". The first lady who helped me informed her that I had more items in the car. Lady 2 then yelled back to the buyer "hey do you want this!" in a sarcastic voice?The Buyer came out and he looked at the item and then he looked at it closely and said it must've gotten a chip on the ride over and that he would only be able to price it for maybe 15 bucks. The first lady then informed him that I had other items out in the car at which time he stated "oh I just don't have time, I have three houses to complete. And I probably won't be able to get to your items until next week." I reminded him that I had called prior to coming over however he claimed that no one ever told him. I said "well I had some really good items I even had a Wedgewood set that I know he would've been interested in but I'm out of here." I was a little disappointed but not nearly as disappointed as I would be later. I sat in the parking lot and made a few calls and while I was waiting another couple pulled up and took in a box. I said to my friend on the phone "if they don't return with that box then I'm gonna have a little bit of a problem." Low and behold, the couple returned to the porch to shop empty-handed. I wanted to look at the jewelry but after seeing this, I really wanted to look at the jewelry. As luck would have it, Mr. busy Buyer completed all three house full of items within 15 minutes. Jewelry was located right near where the Mr busy buyer was making his selection. He noticed me and begin to have a conversation about me with his coworker, Lady 2, the one who asked him if he would want this, referring to my item. I couldn't believe what I heard. He told his fellow associate and I quote " she came here with nappy headed self like we really need her items and now she's over there snooping around" Initially I just wanted to observe to make mental record of the wrongdoing but once I heard this, I had to interject. I assured him that I heard his entire conversation and that my goal was not to snoop around however I couldn't help but notice how he now had free time to go through the Items which belong to the couple behind me. Immediately the Lady 2 rushed over to me, only to insult my intelligence, by saying oh no you heard wrong. We were talking about a coworker who he said was sleeping around not you snooping around and that her hair was tangled. I said no I heard him clearly. She said "well let us look at your items, did you want to bring your items in and he hurried over alongside of her and said oh yeah you just bring your items in". Of course I didn't. Do you really think I'm that stupid. I went outside and made a live video on my Facebook page expressing my disapprove of the behavior demonstrated by the buyer and Lady 2 of The Red Collection on Holden! Words cannot express how I felt and the treatment wasn't even warranted. At one point I actually cried I was so hurt by the idea that someone could think or feel entitled or above someone based on their appearance. I just wanted to sell my items and do a little shopping since it was my very first time in. RACISM is the belief in the superiority of one race over another. It may also include prejudice, DISCRIMINATION, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity, or the belief that members of different races or ethnicities should be treated differently. read more

My experience was similar to what others are reporting. In my opinion their consigment operation is a scam. I will donate or give things away before I go through the stress of trying to deal with their system of incompetence and shinanigans. Many of the items they sell are of thrift store quality, I am unsure why people want to pay such huge markups but that is their choice. read more

Very poor customer service. Misrepresented a wall unit to be sold as a set and when it was delivered only received half of it. Would not give any credit or concession, only that I could pay a second time for the other half - I don't think so. Have been a customer for quite some time and purchased many items. I have been going here for well over a decade and am amazed by the negative reviews. I have never experienced any employee being dismissive or rude. In fact, it's the opposite although I have certainly seen customers behaving abhorrently. The selection is amazing and the prices are fantastic. Prices are pretty good - you can find hidden items buried in the back. Don't expect anything to be clean. The guy who delivered our couch and easy chair was the coolest person I had met since moving here. He was like a mythical being of awesomeness and laid backitude. Unfortunately my most recent visit was so deeply marred by my interaction with the woman at the front desk that I don't think I will be returning. I was treated rudely in a way that felt personal, as she did not seem to treat others as if they were fresh off the street. It was like I reminded her of someone terrible from her past or perhaps she could simply see my inner rottenness and dealt with me accordingly. I suppose there is a cultural illusion/expectation that when there is the possibility of money being spent, a person will be treated with kindness and even hospitality. I guess the truth is there are some people in this world who simply won't like you. Maybe it's better to just know and not kid ourselves. This is a really fun store to poke around in and find something that you did not realize you wanted. There is a large variety of furniture but also paintings, side pieces, decorations, tools, and dishes. It is set up like a number of small rooms that are each furnished and decorated- picture an Ikea of antiques and consignments. I'm surprised as a local family business during a pandemic they are not more flexible. My parents have been unable to spend their gift certificate there due to not wanting to frequent indoor locations (one parent is high risk) and due to a family emergency, which has taken a lot of their focus. We placed our first item on consignment with RED; a dining room table and chairs, which had to be moved due to covid. The item sold in August. We checked on the sale several times last year but did not call after it was sold in August. They apparently have a rule that they keep your money if you do not pick up the check within 6 months of the sale. We visited them this week to find out that they will not pay us for the sale of our table because we came by in MAY instead of FEB. Surely there is no legal allowable assumption of my property for less than 1 year? THIS COMPANY STEALS FROM ITS CUSTOMERS WHICH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN HAD I READ THE REVIEWS. I have been to the Red Collection many times. My husband and I have a second home in G'boro. Our house here has been partially furnished by things I have found at the Red Collection. I went today and the staff was Terribly rude to me and merchandise was mostly junk u can find at the local Goodwill stores or worse!I am 72 years old and suffer from glaucoma. I did not see the face mask requirement sign on the front door. Some very strange man came charging after me when I entered the store telling me I needed a face mask to enter. I told him I was from Fla and we no longer had these requirements and I didn't see the sign. He started arguing w me and told me to GET OUT OF THE STORE!!! I WAS TERRIBLY HUMILIATED! I was obligated to buy a $5 mask if I wanted to proceed shopping. Save ur $5 and go to your local Goodwill. They will appreciate ur business and will be kind to senior citizens. read more

BEWARE!! This place STEALS your items when put on consignment!!! They "donate" items BEFORE your contract is up!! I had very nice stemware with a canister that was donated to a unknown place before my contract date was up then was told by one of the owners that I misunderstood when I was just told 5 minuets prior to speaking to her that my items were donated, wouldn't even tell me where there were donated to, never offered me any kind of solution! Go to the other location off Battleground. We went in with specific questions about a collection of dining room chairs, and one of the women at the front desk was extremely rude and patronizing. She couldn't be bothered to actuallly take 3 minutes to help my husband and I. I also overheard another employee remarking about how "hideous" one customers purchases were as she was bringing artwork to the counter. Just straight up rude. Plus, the parking is horrible. I have caught this store changing prices and marking items up that have been in stock over three months. They just make a new tag with a higher price, claiming recent consignment. One recent table/chairs set went up from $69 to $189 overnight. Dishonest business dealings--not for me. Staff is so rude I refuse to ask questions anymore. This is true at both locations, and has been true over several years. Also, this place gives you pennies for your consigned antiques. Was burned here 10 years ago with some family heirlooms. I brought items in last year to sell and never had quite enough for them to write a check for because the amount was so small. I eventually found an extra item that they sold and because my life got busy I forgot about the check. It was issued in December, I was told it had expired after 6 mos. The company closed for the Covid shutdown which shortened my window of collection time so by the time I got back there after reopening I was told the check had expired and that I lost my money. I was told that it could have been mailed to me if I had asked for it to be, but was told when I dropped the items off I had to pick the check up in person. I don't understand why as a business owner you would let a check sit and expire when all it would take is a quick phone call to remind the customer is beyond me. It was a small amount $21., but it is the principle. I always found it kind of fun and interesting to poking around in the store and look at the items, but I will not be returning. read more

Was at the Red Collection on Holden Rd yesterday and noticed a lamp that I liked but passed on it. After much though I decided to call today and purchase the lamp over the phone. I asked the lady to do me one favor and check to make sure the lamp didn't have a crack in it. The lady put me on hold for a few seconds and when she came back on the phone she advised me that she would not be able to do that. As a business man myself I understand how important customer service is. It can make or break you. The lamp was literally within arms distance of the register. I have shopped at this location for years and have never experienced this level of customer service. I will no longer be doing business there and will pass this experience along to family, friends and other designers that frequent this location. Sorry it had to end like this......All over doing not someone a favor that lived 1 hour and 15mins from there. The store has been going down hill in my opinion for quite sometime now. This location typically has some pretty great items, but the service can be spotty. I unfortunately had the opportunity to speak with the owner of this particular location. I asked her a question in one part of the store and was given a response full of lackluster and annoyance. I later went to check out where I found her behind the counter. When I asked to speak to the manager, not knowing that she was the owner, she found it more important to tell me she is the owner rather than solving the problem that I had with the customer service. She continuously said that she was the owner and literally told me she didn't understand what my problem was. I like the products, but will not be returning if the service continues to be poor; an owner should know better. read more

The Red Collection is a professionally-run consignment store. We've shopped here for quite awhile and just recently consigned our first few items. So far so good - we've been impressed by how organized and thorough they are. They seem to know furniture and priced our items close to what we were expecting. To consign, you can email pictures of the items or arrange a time for the owner to make a house visit. They also offer a pick-up service that is reasonably priced. read more

RIDICULOUS! STAY AWAY AND BE WARNED! Few weeks ago we took in some antique furniture in excellent condition to sell - very useable. Settled on a price that I was honestly taken back by (either they DONT know how to value items or most likely they're attitude it to just price items low to sell/turnover - understandable). After a $200 settled price for a table and 4 chairs, we left but didn't have a good feeling. Then today my mom checks on it: they told her, "oh yea, we separated the chairs from the table and sold all 4 chairs. We have a check for you for $12.00". Turns out Red Collection sold our 4 antique chairs for $20.00 total and they're giving us $12.00. What idiots! Who does that?! NO sale price or discount was discussed with us, the owners of the furniture. We did NOT approve a discount or a ridiculous sale price like this. Plus now I wouldn't have put it past them to simply LIE to us about what they sold and for how much. How can we prove it/get proof of the sale? OMG STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!
