It certainly wasn't an eating pub and pretty much a lawless land at times! Any way that was yonks ago! The pub has now stood the test of time for a number of years as a good eating pub. It has a cosy atmosphere and I've never been disappointed with the food. My last visit there was last Saturday for my Grandpappy's 79th birthday. 8 of us went and we were all more than happy with the food and service. Meals consumed on our table were my choice of beef, ale and mushroom pie, lamb shank, salmon, pork belly in a cider sauce, home made lasagne and the special: chicken supreme. The pie was excellent, marred only slightly by my food envy of Grandpappy's pork belly, wow! All in all a great night and based on this visit I have to give the Globe 5 stars, as it was a flawless meal and Grandpappy had the best birthday he could ask for. Good times.

Some years ago now The Globe had an impressive refurb, kicked out the under age rif raff and here you have the pub it is today. You still have the locals that gather at one end of the bar, but the back of pub is predominantly for dinners. You'll find the usual suspects on the menu, fish & chips, lasagna, steak etc. but the last few times if been I've chose from the specials board. Tonight was a family birthday so about 10 of us visited, I had Supreme of chicken which was served with rice and salad. It was good quality pub grub, nothing cordon blu but it was really tasty, decent portion and good value. My husband had the pie and chips, he enjoyed it although others who had the same complained it was a bit rich and the lid was 'too much crust'. The staff were fairly friendly, and attentive checking things were okay with our orders etc and willing to bring drinks to the table. My issue with The Globe is it does seem to lack atmosphere, I'm not sure what or how it just does, I never leave thinking 'I must go back'. Having said that it's always busy, so they must be doing something right.

So after a long stressful day in the office, finding a place for an after work drink isn't the easiest task. Thank all in the name of cider for The Fox Den Inn, just a ten minute walk from Filton Abbey Wood train station. This pub-cum-restaurant is how English pubs are represented in films like Bridget Jones and Notting Hill: wooden floors, an open fire and lots of local ales. It may not be the most exciting pub but you're guaranteed to get friendly service, huge comfy arm chairs and a good variety of drinks. It's a bit on the pricey side, and I wouldn't go out of my way to drink here, but if you work in Filton it's the best place for a cheeky mid-day pint.

The food is OK, typical chain-pub food quality with a fairly varied menu that includes the pub food classics but a very limited selection for vegetarians. The specials board usually has a lot of extra variety on it and is worth looking at. They have a couple of genuine wood fires that are quite pleasant and help give the place at least a little bit of atmosphere. It's fairly spacious with a couple of little nooks that make it feel a little cosier. The service is standard if a little cold.

Good food served all day, each day and I would go to say it's some of the best modern pub food you're likey to order in the area. The pub has a decent sized well kept garden to the back and also a seating area out the front, amongst the hustle and bustle of the busy High Street. Staff are very welcoming and while its clear it's a locals pub it's also somewhere that accommodates good pub food and drinks for the odd night out/Sunday Roast. The food menu isn't huge which I think is good to keep the quality, which it does. You can expect in trend meals such as 'Mac & Cheese' & pulled pork etc as well as tradition pub favourites. However I feel the menu could be refreshed more often. I can highly recommend the gnocchi on the current menu. You can tell I've eaten there once or twice! Steak night on a Thursday is great and really popular. 2 good quality steak meals and a bottle of wine for £30. There are various themed evenings to check out and the odd event such as a cider and pork day festival that happened early this year, which was a lot of fun and family friendly to boot. All in all the Cross Hands is a good modern pub in the fishponds area that blends your classic local with good quality dining. It's not the cheapest option of watering holes in the area but is great and also definitely accommodates a wee tipple on a Friday and Saturday night!

What I really like about it is that it has a really cosy, proper pub feel to it, while also being a really good restaurant. The food these guys serve up is fantastic! They do a steak night which is every Thursday which is 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £30, and with the quality of the food its a great deal. They have good outside seating areas at the front me back and have a brilliant hog roast and cider festival in the summer, with live bands and lots of banter. Sunday Lunches are also really good. But it's not all about the food, however good it is. This is a really good pub that feels like you're in your local, even if it's the first time you've been.

They were nice enough, but they spent most of their time standing outside smoking. They have LOADS of clearly labeled vegan options, which is always appreciated. I got the Mothership: This Isn't A Chicken & Bacon Pie with leeks and white wine, minty mushy peas, crispy onions, gravy, and mash. It was edible; just soooooooo much less flavorful than it should have been and could have been given its components. The pie was mostly crust with very little filling; the mash was also barely there compared to their marketing photos on social which make it seem like you're getting some enormous tower of delicious eats. The food was bland, the atmosphere was bland, the experience was bland. There are better pie and mash places in Bath!

The location, right on historic Frenchay common, is one of my favourite places in Bristol - beautiful, tranquil, and natural. The pub is a stones throw from the common and the church, the Oldbury Court estate, the Frome Valley walkway, and the national trust owned Frenchay Moor. The White Lion is now the perfect place to go for a bite to eat or drink when enjoying a stroll in the countryside. Gone is the tatty decor and menus dominated with onions rings, nachos and other beige fried goods. In its place is a cosy "modern-vintage" style pub, a fantastic bar and a decent and reasonable classic pub menu. This beautifully refurbished establishment gives me even more reasons for donning the walking boots and going for a good stomp. The impressive bar has a really extensive range of beers, ciders and lagers on tap and in bottle - a mix of both local and 'high end' international. All supported by a good range of wines, spirits and softies. They do a lovely mulled wine and cider too. The food menu is typical gastro-pub fayre. It offers the burgers, grills, pies, fish and chips, hot sarnies, and a good specials menu. Sunday lunch is a popular occasion too. It seems to be riding on the 'pulled pork' bandwagon, offering the slow cooked meat atop of various dishes, which isn't necessarily a bad thing I suppose... The food is good quality, home-made, generous in portion, and and elegantly presented. Its not going to win Michelin awards, but it hits the spot, puts a smile on your face, and is light on the wallet. The decor involves lots of rustic wood, leather, and brass - adorned with historic pictures of Bristol. It has a warm atmosphere, and always seems to be full of people. I can't wait for the summer - when I can enjoy long evenings sipping cider in the garden to the rear, which overlooks the the river Frome and Oldbury Court... Sigh... Summer...

The building it's self is pretty big, it looks a bit like a farm house you'd expect to see out in the country but it's smack bang in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Gloucester Rd. I love the lay of out this pub, there's lots of little corners you can hide away in but equally there's larger tables you can share with a big group of friends. There's a nice outside seating area which is covered and has heaters and loads of tables. The foods is always pretty good, they have a great little bar snack menu which is more like tapas, we often get a few plates to share and it's always been spot on. The drinks are quite pricy it's over £4 a pint and a glass of wine is around £5. Spirits and a mixer was around £3.50 which I guess isn't too bad. Just a little niggle with my last visit, I am partial to a G&T which in my opinion absolutely needs to come with lime, at the very least lemon. The bar man didn't seem to get this concept which was quite irritating to have to ask every time I went to the bar. All in all this a great pub!!

I lived on Gloucester Road for a couple of years. Being the longest stretch of independent shops in Europe, it had a bit of a reputation to keep up! The Flyer is one of the more comfortable, less bohemian but expensive restaurants/pubs on the road. Drinks wise you get premium lagers like Kirin, my favourite lager! But at over £4 a pop it's not cheap! They have a great wine list which is full of malbecs and fine whites. The food menu is small but wholesome and comforting. It regularly changes and they have a decent daily specials board. I've eaten quite a few times and apart from one Sunday lunch mishap, it's always been good. The best thing about the pub is the layout. You can find a table an be separated from the rest and have a nice intimate meal. Alternatively you can get amongst it and have 20+ people sit together. The back garden and outside seating are great for the summer. The back garden an get really busy with an awesome buzz I the air.
