My friend and I went to the Indie Beauty Expo a week or so ago that was being held upstairs at The Reef. I'd never visited this building before so it was exciting to discover a new part of DTLA. The beauty expo showcased hundreds of small and large-scale companies with beauty products, and other accessories. We came across tons of sheet masks, clay masks, eco-friendly nail polish and removers, intimate products for him and her, hand and body lotions, toners...you name it, they had it. I'm a sucker for beauty products so I was happy to tag along with my friend for this experience. The parking lot next to The Reef became full fairly quickly, however there are two huge open parking lots across the street that costs $20 for the day. The downstairs area provides a space for people to catch up on work and buy some coffee. The coffee was okay when we purchased it. The elevators lead us up to the expo. Makes me curious what other events may take place here in the future! read more

Really awesome event space. Entering there's a small cafe and sitting area. Our #Perks event was on the 2nd floor. It was spacious and didn't feel super cramped. Only thing is if you park across the street, be sure to get your tickets validated because we ended up paying $20 for parking when we already paid for a discounted parking with the event. read more

Innovative and clean space for MAGIC LEAP Conference I thought this place was a solid place to house 20,000 ppl. I had plenty of space to talk and discuss topics as well as the bathrooms here were clean and everyone that worked here was very polite. Overall a great venue that Magic Leap put on and a great location. The only issue here is parking. its really tough and i got lucky driving around however uber , those scooters and the metro are all close by. I would consider that next time for sure. read more

Recently visited The Reef when they hosted The Los Angeles Coffee Festival. The space that the Festival had selected on not on the main floor and to enter you had to climb up a good amount of exterior stairs - this was fine on our visit as it was middle of the day and sunny and dry. Once within the space served as a great backdrop to the many booths for the festival. read more

SATURDAY SCHEDULE: First heard about this event (Inspiration L.A.) while visiting Monsivais & Company out in Highland Park. I'm a huge fan of early nineteen-hundred design, vintage Americana, apparel and craftwork - and more importantly, supporting small brand businesses with in the community, so the invitation couldn't have come in a better time (thanks Damian). Got there around noon, found the four hour parking meter a few blocks up, thought I'd save $20 for something else. Not too crowded, elevators weren't packed like sardines, as soon as the doors open, the 2nd floor was flooded, a room full of artisans, bespoke tailors, traders, sellers and smiths. It's a beautiful thing, surrounded by history and the people who preserve and share it. HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WALK: First stop, a company called CHAFF, specializing in mens jewelry out in Japan, I met Masahiko (director), zeroed in on a hand-beaded bracelet piece - had my name written all over it (fits like a glove). Another Japanese designer, Kosuke from Clutch Golf clothing (a perfect gentleman), I was "this close" to purchasing a crème graph patterned ensemble, couldn't pull the trigger, no place to try on the set, oh well. And finally, Freenote Cloth Company also out in L.A. (Highland Park) area. Talk about impeccably tailored & attention to detail, the double-breasted fur shawl collar coat in hunter green tweed, shoulders fit nicely, couldn't lift my arms and it was one size too small for my liking. If you admire the bygone era of denim, military, leather, motorcycles, old watches, shoes, tweed caps, wool fedoras, patches and college banners, this is the place to be. read more

Went to the LA Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention at this locations, very easy parking, and a very nice space that can accommodate a good sized crowd. Lots of elevators to get you up to the second floor exhibit space. Very nice use of space that can be customized for each show/exhibit. Staff is great and very friendly. Recommended venue read more

I visited this place to come to the Foodie Con event. The building is nice and clean. There was plenty of space for the event. I saw so many different vendors today is was a lot of fun. The name for the building or convention hall is a little out there, but works in my opinion. read more

Not a bad place to work... But unless you're specifically looking for a more gritty downtown neighborhood, I'd probably look elsewhere for shared work space. For me, the concrete floors and hard industrial design, while very cool to look at, it just made the place seem so very loud. Sounds seemed to be constantly bouncing off the walls. And our meeting space was uncomfortably warm (and this without doors - doors aren't really a thing at The Reef) and the tech support not really solid. I'm probably too old school about shared work spaces for The Reef to be my type of spot. If you're younger, live downtown and thrive on coffee and an undefined and loud office environment, this is for you. read more

this is a late review, but i came here for the BTS exhibition 8/10/19! i arrived ridiculously early for no reason (my own fault) and parked right across from a very large lot for $20 flat. you could totally find street/meter parking if you tried but you might have to walk a bit. upon entering the venue there is a cafe and help desk. unfortunately since i didnt have my admission pass yet, they said i could not use the restrooms :( we all lined up outside prior to the event which the entrance was the side door and going up to the 2nd floor? seemed like we went up a lot. they were extremely organized with fans (not AC) blowing everywhere. the organizers were great and there were many restrooms once we got in. the exhibition itself was great! i expected it to be more on a grand scale and a bigger venue, but i think with what they had they made it look really nice and enjoyable for fans. overall, nice place and wouldnt mind returning for a future event here. read more

A great, creative and fun venue for the arts. They have on-sight parking - a great for visitors, however, it is LA priced parking. There is street parking; beware that street parking is often blocked off for the events. I'm not sure how that's legal, but they do it. read more

This is a great arts venue. Based upon the postcards and listing, there are lots of different artists with shops inside. I came for the Independent Photography Show, which was on the second floor and was fantastic. Rudinger Poe and LA Street Jewels were ah-maz-ing. I loved meeting all of the photographers and hearing about their work. The building is not much to look at from the outside, but it is updated inside with fast elevators, clean restrooms and a café in the lobby. There is a surface lot available for a $20 flat rate, so I recommend looking for one of the meters on the surrounding streets. read more

The REEF is an event space with different floors assigned to varying themes. 3 different sections are in The Reef: L.A. Mart, Magic Box and Maker City LA. L.A. Mart holds space for events geared toward gifts, home decor and design. I attended the Artisanal LA (a home goods and craft type of show) event and it was held in L.A. Mart. Magic Box is for other events, like trade shows and productions. Friends of mine attended a Fashion Show here, in Magic Box. Maker City serves as creative labs and offers work studios. I haven't been to that section, though. The space itself is open and allows a lot of room for the hordes people that it must hold. There are convenient restroom locations throughout as well. Great concept! They even offer a calendar of events on their website. What a way to serve the community and bring people together!! read more

I just recently went here for a CalArts Alumni event. It was such a beautiful space and the galleries were awesome. I remember coming here a few years back for a CalArts Graduating MFA Fine Arts Showcase which ended up being an awesome night. I really enjoy the space, parking is convenient even though it cost about $5 at night. The Reef space is laid out in 3 different sections: L.A. Mart, Magic Box and Maker City LA. read more

DO NOT visit the market in the reef building. The staff here is incredibly rude and inattentive, especially the men that work here. I ordered an iced mocha, the staff member gave me an americano, and tried to tell me I said americano. Retail 101 - customer is always right, I know what I ordered and others in line heard me. No offer to make my drink, just attitude. The treatment of tenants and the fact that there is such horrible service is astonishing. Not to mention, the cleanliness is a real issue with the food, which is why I won't order food. So much cross contamination - if you have food allergies or dietary needs, beware. read more

I love this place!!! The Reef is like a magical place for me. I visited this place for the first time when I went in for a walkthrough when some friends were looking for space to rent. I really enjoyed seeing the different creative spaces available. One of the floors we were introduced was so much fun, there are different businesses next to each other and each one is distinctively decorated with the current trends. Most recently I went in for an entrepreneurial summit that was outstanding; it was held in another floor that rents out for large events. read more

This review is specifically pertaining to their handling of Bjork Digital. Firstly, the staff was poorly trained- they did not have a basic understanding of an immersive experience and would start the videos late or make comments that removed one from the experience. Secondly, and most importantly, the way the exhibit was shown was a veritable HEALTH HAZARD. The VR headsets are lined with a porous material and go next to your most vulnerable points of entry for viruses. They were not cleaned in any way between visitors nor were disposable liners provided. There were multiple people coughing etc. These headsets get used by hundreds of people a day. Go ahead and put them over your eyes and nose. From the common cold to MRSA and herpes, it's all yours. The magic of Bjork at the Magic Box. read more

The lady at the first desk was so nice. I'm here for a meeting in the Cloud room. While taking a break, I encountered a very rude man who works here. He appears to be Indian or middle eastern. The second was empty I decided to walk back and forth only because I've been sitting all morning. The rude guy appeared to be showing the floor off to another gentleman. The rude guy asked if I needed help and I said no. He then told me this floor was closed. I responded with my meeting is on this floor. He said, "Maybe it's in the Cloud Room." I told him it was. I then asked if I could walk a few laps or if I needed to return to my room. With an irritated look, he turned away and totally ignored me. I'm not trying to start any drama but this guy clearly needs to work on his people skills. I'm not looking forward to anymore meetings here. read more

Went to the Tech Fair LA event on 1/26/2017. The line to get in stretched along all four sides of the this building and continued to stretch down and around another block. Parking is horrible. This venue was totally inappropriate for this event. Shows poor planning and oversight. Mayor Eric Garcetti is also to blame since it was his event. Why invite over 11,000 people when you can hardly accommodate them? read more

This space was really cool! I went to a wine tasting event there, and they definitely have a lot of really interesting/ diverse spaces for events. It was a really cool environment. The chair in the parking lot is a cool touch, and the art throughout is nice. They had a dog adoption event going on in the lobby, so I got to see puppies on the way out which was rad. There was also an indian food truck outside the building, which I guess is a regular thing. Very cool space. read more
