A message to anyone who sews: Stop going to Lincraft and Spotlight, NOW!
The remnant warehouse is a absolute gem in the heart of the inner west. They have the best selection of fabrics that I have ever seen and all very reasonably priced.
Although this shop is mainly inhabited by dance mums (they seriously have a whole section dedicated to them), I've also overheard conversations at the register with dress makers and costume designers from film and television who also shop there.
This store is definitely where the pros go and so it should be, there is so much choice here. As they are not connected with any particular company and privately owned, they source their materials from all over the place and quite often they do have designer fabrics. I've never seen a cotton sateen at Spotlight, nor have a seen silk tulle netting - but they have them here and in multiple colours!
They also have discount bins with off cuts of fabric for bargin prices. The front of the store is surrounded by bins full of discounted rolls of fabric - usually the last couple of metres or so. Great if you need some inexpensive fabric for a mock up or a cheap costume - last time I was here I bought 3 metres of fabric for $3.
The only thing you have to remember when shopping here is that it is a remnant warehouse, so if you like a fabric buy it that day because the chances are that it won't be there next week and they won't be getting any more in.
They also have a loyalty program - once you spend $200 on fabric you get a $20 gift voucher. How great is that?!
From now on this Yelper will be avoiding Spotlight and Lincraft and only be buying her sewing fabrics here. read more
