I don't know why but I felt like I gained XP from eating here…read more Food: Our friend's friend who is from Burwell took us here before visiting the annual Big Rodeo hosted in town. Not sure if they normally do this, or if it was because we had a large party, but they had makeshift a sloppy joe (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/eW7wBDiiiYnohxLOOzj3gA?select=vz9XfeBcXZqD8FiXgjnBMQ#vz9XfeBcXZqD8FiXgjnBMQ) and hot dog (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/eW7wBDiiiYnohxLOOzj3gA?select=vz9XfeBcXZqD8FiXgjnBMQ#RwukLCheFo142FAwFQ6yHg) buffet laid out in the restaurant complete with baked beans, pickles, and a macaroni salad. The sloppy joe filling was pretty good, but the bun clearly came from a store bought bag. I mean, it's hard to expect much more because this place isn't exactly near any urban hubs. Everything else was pretty honest and tasted how it looked. Atmosphere: We ate outside under a giant tent next to a stage studded with some impressive gear (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/eW7wBDiiiYnohxLOOzj3gA?select=vz9XfeBcXZqD8FiXgjnBMQ#783tPFttN8A7KTyO_W82bg). Their seating area flooring is entirely sand, appropriate since Burwell is in the Nebraska Sandhills. Sadly, it looked like a giant ashtray with all the cigarette butts strewn about. The interior has a true dark, but not divey bar feel, the likes of which you just don't see in LA. I felt as if many friendships had been made and broken there. Service: It was mostly self service. Synopsis: Honestly, I would have never even thought about stopping at this place if not for the recommendation, but it was an interesting experience.

DO NOT EAT HERE. Food was average and the treatment was definitely different if you not from Burwell.

Practically perfect in every way. Amelia and the rest of the staff were attentive, genuinely welcoming, and kept everything running seamlessly from start to finish. Both of us ordered the Prime Rib Dip with fries--and wow. The beef was incredibly tender and flavorful, with not a trace of fat or gristle. The rich, savory au jus added even more depth, and the horseradish sauce brought just the right amount of kick to complement every bite. Even the fries arrived hot, crisp, and satisfying after a full day on the road. Although we visited on a Monday and missed the live piano music, the warm atmosphere, outstanding food, and exceptional service more than made up for it. North 40 Chophouse delivered an experience that was well worth the stop, and we'll gladly return the next time our travels bring us through North Platte.

We both had a prime rib dip and it just melted in your mouth. We ended up sharing an espresso crème brûlée for dessert and it was delicious as well. Service was great and our waitress was very friendly and sweet. If you're in town and looking for a great place to eat, I would highly recommend this.
