We booked a stay at this place because we had an evening function at the Blue Orchid restaurant nearby. It was an ideal location and a great decision. The Inn is located in a nice area of Riverside and is close to restaurants and museums, as well as the water. Our room was on the second floor and was a nice size room with a tv, coffee maker, mini fridge and a beautiful bed. The Inn also has a bar on the first floor, as well as a good size dining room for daily breakfast. The menu offered about 5 or 6 options. We both went with the vegetable cheese omelettes and they were the best omelettes we have ever had. There was also a cute little outdoor patio adjacent to the second floor common area. What a fun spot right in the touristy Riverside area of Jacksonville. We stopped by for a little staycation, since we live a little further south. Reservations were easy to make online, we were welcomed quickly upon arrival and giving a spacious room with all the amenities you could need - coffee maker, mini fridge, and more TV channels than you can imagine. While the bathroom was small, the shower pressure was great! Well we didn't have time to enjoy their honor bar, they do have plenty of different places to congregate or lounge on the first floor. This is a renovated classic structure, offering a great combination of old school charm with modern necessities. In the morning, we had a wonderful breakfast served with a smile. There's plenty of parking, and they even have electric vehicle chargers in the parking lot. I did take a very short walk to the waterfront. The service was friendly and fantastic, a variety of tea options and delicious food. The savory options included egg salad on wheat bread, shrimp salad on a mini croissant, and marinated cucumber with cream cheese on toast. Everything tasted phenomenal but the cucumber toast was my favorite. The next layer were sweets, including a decadent chocolate fudge, flavorful lemon cake, macaroons, madeleines and fresh strawberries. The fudge and lemon cake were my favorites. I am so glad to have found The Riverdale Inn. We have been driving from Charlotte to Orlando a few times a year and this was a fantastic place to stop for the night. This was my first stay in a bed and breakfast. Riverdale is large and spacious. Rooms are airy and have a feeling of cool comfort. The bed was so comfortable we have ordered the linens they had on the bed. They offer a made to order breakfast. I recommend the veggie omelette. There is a full bar set up for self service using the honor system. It was nice to have a mixed drink after walking around 5 points. It is located next to the Blue Orchid and we had a great dinner and walked home with full bellies and passed out in our wonderful bed. They had a really cool self-service honor bar in the lobby. There were lots of books you could borrow to read--I was struck by the collection of fantasy novels! Someone with good taste must be curating the library we enjoyed relaxing on the second floor patio. Parking was easy and readily available, and the hotel was located in a great location by the river. I can't say enough good things about my first stay at the Riverdale Inn. From the time we checked in, my husband, myself and our dogs had the most memorable time spent there. We stayed in the carriage house ( guest house ) out back due to me wanting to be sure navigating an old mansions steps wasn't an issue. We booked the smaller of the two rooms in that space but were graciously upgraded to the larger one. I think it was because we booked the 2 dogs with us and the owners wanted to be sure we had enough space. We definitely did and appreciate the gesture more than they can imagine. This place is all about the comfort and amenities that a bed and breakfast is known for. It's also about location, location, location. You are only a few blocks from a water front park, restaurants, bars/pubs, a museum, shops and other places to explore. Not that you'll get bored luxuriating at the Riverdale Inn, but if you need a break from the lounging, the honor bar, breakfast and tea service then just walk out the front door and down the street. You won't be disappointed. I'll end with the staff. They were there when needed and less visible when they needed to be. The selection of spirits was a bit underwhelming. If you stay here be sure to explore downtown Avondale. Nice shops and restaurants. Came here for mother/daughter tea for back to school. Have to call in to make a reservation and pay for the reservation at the time that you reserved. You are only served one type of tea and you received a platter of delicious sandwiches and treats for $25 per person. There is parking in the back which is nice because it can be hard to find parking in the Riverside area. The service was good as she would promptly refill tea cups when she saw they were getting low and answered any questions that we had. We always wondered about this beautiful historic structure so we decided to make a reservation for their afternoon tea. They have a few choices on the type of package and we opted for the Traditional style. Lovely bed and breakfast in a great location right by the river. Check in was super easy - I called ahead to let them know our expected arrival and they gave us the door code so we were able to get right in and grab our info and keys from the desk. Amazing breakfast made-to-order with friendly and super fast service. I stayed two nights and had the veggie omelette and the avocado toast. Both were delicious. The honor bar was a nice touch and the prices were very really. The area around is nice, right by the river and a nice little park right by. Some nice restaurants not too far. My husband and I stayed at Riverdale Inn for seven nights in May 2025. The Inn is in a nice neighborhood. We were able to check in two hours earlier when the front desk person was contacted. She helped bring our heavy suitcases to the third floor. There were condition issues with the bedding and wall air conditioner in our room which were brought to her attention and rectified the next day. Breakfast choices were either savory or non savory. Enjoyed the French press coffee and omelets. The dining room where breakfast is served has nice paintings on the wall and is a sunny room. The bathrobes were a nice amenity in the guest room as well as the refrigerator. Liked the honeysuckle scent of the soap and the rain shower. The bed was comfortable. The towels were plush. There was an issue in the bathroom the fourth night of when brought to the front desk staff we were given a "complimentary " bottle of wine. There was parking in the shade which helped with cooling the car.The owner helped bring our suitcases from our room to the car our last day which was very helpful. read more

It was warm and welcoming inside with a great service and a nice view of Riverside Ave. The food was also delish; however, it was very skimpy. I was shocked at the amount of food offered for 2 people at the price charged. Adding at least a whole cut up sandwich and some fruit would round this out much better. read more

So, does it really surprise anyone that on my thirty-ish or so minutes long break between my first day at the new co's Jacksonville headquarters, I use it to . . . Yelp?? Didn't think so. I already have things to say about this great FL city and what I've discovered so far!! My new employer is based right in the heart of historic Jacksonville, on lovely Riverside Ave amidst palms and magnolias, bougainvillea and historic homes. Love this place, already! Even better, the adorable Riverdale Inn is a block from the office and I get to stay here for two nights!! Itself a precious old home, it is the most charming B&B I have possibly ever seen. The back porch is set up almost like a grownup's tree house, with patio tables and a charming cocktail-party-like inviting presentation. Inside, a cozy living room welcomes you if you use the back entrance, and the rest of the downstairs includes a nifty little pub adjacent to the Inn's restaurant, The Row, where full breakfast is served daily and dinner is nightly from 5pm on. Wireless is free and some rooms even have modem connection in case you need that, and I'm taking a break before our business dinner to write this . . . wearing one of the plush white robes I discovered on the back of the bathroom door! They also have a desktop with open access and a snazzy flat screen in that "living room" part I previously described. How cool!!! Classic and modern- unbeatable combination. I know where I'll be staying on all future visits to town! Prices ($119/night) are business-travel reasonable, too. The bathrooms, by the way, are as modernly-appointed as the rooms and whole place are cute and charming- the perfect combination. Even better? The whole Inn is nonsmoking! BRACE YOURSELF!!!! This is absolutely the best place to stay in Jacksonville. I'm here for a week at a time every three months for work. TRUST ME!!!! Located in the heart of Jax this place is a diamond in the rough! It's tucked away in a very convenient location I in central Jacksonville. Parking is perfect, and recessed away from traffic, unlike all the big chain places. The establishment is so very clearly well kept and I could tell that even though I arrived late in the evening. I was very politely treated by a staff member at the time of my arrival. Checking in was fast and simple and they were very clearLy ready for my arrival PERFECT! She explained the amenities such as the common area, doors, parking, the bar, and close by local attractions/ places I may want to eat. My room you ask? Third floor, open concept, astonishingly well decorated, a walk in shower, a stocked fridge, two cups of wine, and a small bottle of 2015 red already there. TAKE ME TO HEAVEN NOW!!!!! I missed breakfast the first morning due a meeting. The second day I didn't. DONT MISS BREAKFAST!!!! I met the proprietors to this amazing business on my second morning, and truly this establishment is a reflection of their hard work and dedication. Back to breakfast. The coffee? Fresh pressed and ready for action. Western omelette that packs a six shooter. Bacon perfectly cooked as if chef Ramsey prepared them himself. Grits that would make your grandmama throw in the towel. Toast crisp, and light as air. EAT HERE! I slept like a king every night, the air conditioner in my room is TOP NOTCH. The establishment is literally a stones throw from the water. Why 4 stars? Because it was definitely weird, but not bad-weird. --- --- --- The Riverdale Inn will always be the hotel that had a toilet with the handle 7 feet in the air. I've never seen anything like it, and I don't think I can even say that I understand it. It seems terribly expensive and inefficient, but damn it... they wanted that toilet handle to be several feet above that toilet!! This is a very friendly B&B, complete with plenty of charm. My room was huge, and my only real complaint was the lack of power outlets (to be expected with an old-timey building.) For some reason, when they built this place, they didn't have the foresight to envision iPhone's and MacBook Pro's. Well, make that two complaints - the wifi was spotty at best. I didn't take advantage of the breakfast, as I was too busy sleeping in... and too concentrated on hitting up Bold Bean on my way out of town. If you're cool with the features that come with an old building, then you'll like it here. Just try not to trip coming out of the old-school tub! read more

I was put up here for a work trip, a nicer place than I probably would have chosen for myself. What a treat! The building is beautiful, service is friendly, the rooms are spacious and well-furnished, and everything is sparkling clean. This is the kind of place you don't want to leave to go about your day--I just wanted to loll around in the fluffy white bathrobe I found in the closet and avail myself of the great TV selection. However, I do suggest leaving your room at some point, because the surrounding neighborhood is scenic and full of life. I enjoyed an evening walk to the Grassroots Grocery (about five minutes away) for a smoothie, followed by a stroll through nearby Memorial Park and down the river a bit, through the lovely historic neighborhood with its palm trees and palatial homes. Don't miss the sunset over the river. The inn is also a short walk away from a Publix, as well as numerous bars, restaurants, and cute shops--including a couple of great antique and vintage stores! In nice weather, walk a bit farther down Riverside Avenue and hit up the Southern Roots Filling Station and some charming boutiques (I really got my steps in on this trip). The inn's breakfast was cooked to order and very delicious. Extra thanks to the staff who allowed me to store my luggage behind the front desk after checking out so I could explore the neighborhood unencumbered for a few hours before my flight. read more

So much charm! If you are in the Jacksonville area, check this place out. This family owned Bed and Breakfast is so warm and inviting. As one of the guests I was chatting with said it best: "It's like you are staying in grandma's house." So true. I was headed to Jax for work and was suggested to stay here and after reading the reviews, I called to book. I scored $120 for one night in room #3 and it was quaint, cute and warming. Upon arrival I parked in the back and entered on the porch which lead me to the small bar in the back. I headed up front to the main room and checked in. The younger gentleman who took care of me was very informative and welcoming. You are welcomed to hang out in and of the group areas inside or on the porches. Each area is really gorgeous. My specific room came with a view in the back. Full of windows and a super comfy bed. It was the perfect size for a one night stay. Wood floors all throughout and the furniture was all rustic and well kept. Everything was so clean. The other rooms that are not occupied are left open so you may check them out as well. All the bathrooms are very up to date but still fit in the decor. Hot water was plentiful and the pillows were glorious; two important points at a hotel, in my opinion. I slept like a baby. There was even a guest book in each room. It was lovely to read through and write my own passage. I left so nostalgic in a place that was not my own, I felt very at home. I look forward to staying here again. The location is great, a block from the river and across the street from the gorgeous Memorial Park! You must walk through there and along the water, gorgeous! I would suggest this as a romantic getaway, a solo stay or small groups. This isn't really built for loud, bustling parties. read more

As a local, we really like the Riverdale Inn Bed and Breakfast. We live about 30 minutes outside of Jacksonville so quite often we stay in town. The joy of consuming adult beverages freely-across-town kicks in and it's just plain fun to get out of the house for a night. Riverdale Inn was built in 1855 for a turpentine baron and it's a beautiful home. And the breakfast? So delicious. It has charging stations for electric cars and it is a block away from a beautiful riverfront park. You will not be disappointed. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed this hotel. We got there very late after a 12 hour drive and they had pre-arranged our arrival so it was stress free. They had a bar where we made ourselves a nightcap, showered, and went to bed. The next morning we took a great walk along the river; so beautiful and for the most part a very charming neighborhood. Private parking off street was nice; this was the kind of place you didn't have to worry about leaving your room door unlocked (or your car)! The breakfast made to order was delicious both mornings, and the owner proprietor is also a trained chef. Eric was pretty awesome, and his (wife?) and the rest of the staff also very nice. Each morning there were couples or families eating, and we engaged in conversation with quite a few. This place really brought back a sense of "the world is good" and helped me forget some of the crazy times we are living in. It's always been a daydream of mine to stay at a B&B and when my boyfriend noticed it was one of LivingSocial's deals and conveniently only a short drive away, we decided to "escape"! When we walked, in my boyfriend (since he purchased the deal) was greeted by first name. We were given a quick tour of the 3-story Inn which included a library, entertainment lounge, and 2 dining rooms (all of which were small but cozy). Our chilled bottle of champagne (included in the deal!) was waiting for us in our very spacious and clean room. Breakfast is from 7:30-9, too early for my taste, but the handcrafted Belgian waffles and spinach and feta omelettes were worth the early rise! My very favorite part of our stay was "high tea". We chose 1:00pm so we could have the morning to explore the area and be back in time for this scrumptious snack (which ended up being our lunch). "High Tea" consisted of blueberry scones, pound cake, and egg, chicken, and cucumber sandwiches served with of course hot tea. The only reason I didn't give the Inn 5 stars is because it is in an OK area. There are a few pubs and shops down the street as well as a small Gardens&Gallery museum, all of which are walking distance. To keep us busy, we went to a movie one night at the old 5 Points theater, rummaged through antiques at a nearby vintage shop, and ventured to the local farmer's market. I attended a Women's Tea at this establishment. The place is beautiful as well as historical however, the customer service was horrible. The hostess seemed irritated because I did not purchase my ticket for this event ahead of time and she was asked to add additional place setting for me. As I was making my payment she consistently complained about adding another setting. Her attitude was nasty and her tone was condescending. I will not spend any money at this establishment nor will I ever tolerate treatment like this. I recommend that leadership trains their employees on how to speak to their customers. read more

Lost count of the number of times we've stayed there. The ambiance of the home is very peaceful. Owners are gentile and it's slowly moving from Bob and Linda (who are gracious Southern) to Eric and Mary-Michael who are quirky and charming. Rooms are a mixup of period antiques and absolutely modern amenities. Beds and linens top notch. Mikey recommended a nearby restaurant that was mid-expensive and worth every bit and her husband sent us to a local shack for amazing, cheap, Mexican food. Exceeded our expectations! The Riverdale Inn hosted an 80th birthday party for my mother. The High Tea was exceptional! They served a variety of finger sandwiches including cheese and pimento, chicken salad and cucumber. The scones were out of this world as were the glazed lemon cakes and lemon squares! Also served were lemon pound cake, rugula (both raspberry and chocolate!) and mini brownie rounds. We had a group of about 25 friends and family in attendance and the owner Linda and her staff were absolutely fantastic. Our every need was met and they were friendly, courteous and very willing to please. Parking was somewhat of an issue, certainly understandable since it is a Bed and Breakfast and they had several guests staying too, but we were able to make it work as my brother acted as a valet and parked cars for my mothers elderly friends. All in all my family and most importantly, my mother were very pleased with the event and would highly recommend this for a similar event or even a wedding reception. We didn't share the opinions stated in the other reviews. My wife and I were visiting Jax for Thanksgiving. She made reservations here for 4 nights. We arrived late and were given the cottage (#10). The smell, dampness, furniture and appointments of the accommodations were unappealing. There was a loud de-humidifier in the bathroom that cycled on and off. Fans in the bedroom were on high speed to attempt to curb the musty smell. It was a disappointment for the cost of the room ($170/night). The nights sleep was terrible and using the bathroom in the morning was downright depressing. Flickering lights, cheap shower, huge gaps in the trim, uneven floor. cheap everything. We were very displeased with the accommodation. We decided to check out. When I attempted to check out pay for the single night, the clerk at the desk told me that I couldn't check out because we needed to pay for 4 nights and that we were sent a message telling us that. There was a back and forth and the owner was called who recited the same thing. No care about customer service. It was an in-your-face argument where we were wrong and they were right and steadfastly offered no compassion or solution. I told them that their policy may be attempting to assure that people show up for the reservation but when they do show up (as we did) and they are dissatisfied, they (the owner) should make it right or do the right thing. They did not, nor were they at all reasonable. I refused to pay for 4 nights and told them that I would pay for the night. They threatened to call the police on my wife and I. It was outrageous. Very simply outrageous. My wife then spoke with the owner who looked at her as some kind of a trouble-maker and gave her no resolution. Where was the "friendly and accommodating owner/operator" that I read about? That lady was out for the day. They charged our Visa for 4 nights and later reduced our charge to 2 nights. I am still contesting with Visa and the Riverdale Inn to reimburse me for the night that we did not use. We went to the Omni in Jacksonville and had a very lovely rest of our stay. Great rooms, great service at the Omni. **UPDATED** We received a note from the owner (Bob) today 12/4. He was responding to a direct message that was sent to him. He apologized for our situation and the treatment when we complained about it. He also offered to reimburse us for the second night that was charged to us. He mentioned that they will be reviewing the conditions in the carriage house and determining what is needed. He will also be reviewing with the staff the procedure for dealing with dissatisfied customers. A good response and step forward. Thanks. read more
