Harbord Street holds so many interesting stores, one of which is the Rock Store. Filled with rocks imbued with different properties (some can heal, etc.), candles, tarot cards, this is a store for the metaphysical lover and those who are curious about it. Employees are very lovely and they help steer you to make the right purchase for your unique needs. Ambiance in the store is very calming. A truly beautiful store with beautiful things. When I travel, I make a point to visit the local spiritual store, and this is one of the most beautiful spiritual stores I've ever been to. Even from the outside, the exterior is beautifully decorated and has warm and inviting vibe mixed with public art. Their impressive selection of rocks, gems and crystals are organized by color. While they also have special areas for tarot and oracle decks, spells, and plant magick, these items are also mixed into the individual sections based on color and theme. Someone has put a LOT of care into the curation and aesthetic of the store. I purchased a beautiful sodalite bracelet, a few different books, and a really special oracle deck I've never seen before. I think so fondly of this store when it pops into my mind, and if I were local, I'd attend their classes, visit for readings, and shop here regularly for high-quality gifts and spiritual needs. This past weekend I had a very bad experience with the Rock Store and I wanted to share in hopes of helping the next person. I received a newsletter from the store on Thursday afternoon which included an update that numerous tea leaf reading spots were open on Friday. In haste, I proceeded to book an appointment for the following day at 1pm, but later realized that due to my financial circumstances, this was a mistake and booked in error. When booking, and in the confirmation email there were NO details on cancellation policies, refunds, rescheduling etc. Had the policy been clearly stated I would have made a different decision. On Thursday evening I sent and email, and left a message first thing on Friday morning to let them know. I had to call back at noon as I had not heard back, and at 1215 I was told I would not be refunded or be able to reschedule. Given my appointment was at 1pm, I was unable to attend as they had let me know so late. As a result, I wasted $62 and have nothing to show for it. Poor communication, a lack of empathy, and non transparent cancellation policies as well as terrible customer service is what I received at The Rock Store. A a previous loyal customer, i will be taking my business elsewhere after this incident. read more

Several options of stones, books, tarot cards, horns and jewelry. If you're new to the stones, it can be overwhelming with over 30 rock options, but there are descriptions for each displayed next to them. They have tiny to extremely large rocks, some rough and some tumbled, as individual pieces, and as part of jewelry. For the tiny pieces (in some case chips) they are against the window and start as low as $1. What I did find was lots of duplication throughout the store. For example, rose quarts was in 4 different areas and in different styles/shapes and price points. That said, if you want a particular type of rock, look around to find the best option for you. Anyway, as a first timer I ended up with $30CAD worth of 5 stones which were each bagged individually with description cards included. For me, that's pricey, but I'm happy with my purchase (the gal checking out in front of me had $583 worth of stuff, eek). read more

You can feel the healing energy as soon as you walk through the door. SO CALMING I can spend hours in here. If i could I would be sitting on the floor and hang out for hours. it's feels so good to be there! There are so many crystals and they are all hand chosen by the owner! They're colour coordinated which makes it easier to find what your looking for. The staff is very friendly and super knowledgable and educated! Every time I come here the layout has changed which keeps things interesting! They do a lot of classes and workshops here which is amazing! I've always had a fascination with rocks since I was a kid, and it wasn't until just recently after becoming more spiritual and knowing more about qualities of rocks and crystals from my friends I really got back into it. The Rock Store is my favorite store to shop for these beautiful specimens. It's a pretty large store and they probably have the largest selection in the city. They also sell books, herbs, jewelry and all kinds of mystical objects and accessories. The place doesn't feel like a hippie den or a head shop like many crystal/gem stores, it's actually very bright, airy, and you do feel a sense of peace and uplifting energy. Many people may think the prices may seem steep for just rocks but they are actually priced competitively with other stores and the quality of the rocks are excellent. I have purchased a couple large crystal clusters which looks much nicer and even cheaper than ones I have purchased on eBay and Etsy. Also you could really examine, feel and touch any of their rocks to determine if it really speaks to you. The store also carries a good selection of books, cards, jewellery, smudge and incense sticks, and yoga accessories, perfect for gifts or home cleansing. They have an upstairs studio which they run various classes and workshops. They staff are always friendly and helpful. read more

Came here with my girlfriends, we spent about an hour looking at all the rocks and reading what they all mean! I walked out of there with several stones, and a necklace. It is a truly beautiful store. The only thing was the wait line was slow to cash out and the rocks were a little pricey although the free lemon water does make up for it as well as the decor! read more

After reading some reviews about racial profiling on this store, I've come to believe this was exactly the feeling I left with after visiting the rock store for the first time. I initially went down to purchase crystal supplies for my upcoming certified crystal healer course, and ended up purchasing $387 dollars worth of products & left feeling like crap ( thankfully I know it's not my shit and cleared my self later on) After being warmly welcomed by both staff receptionist Makayla & was helped by floor staff Heather to go through my school list of supplies and gather my supplies, I hit it off with Heather and was delighted to have her assist me . Heather thank you for your time and help, this is the only reason I'm giving 2 stars. You are a saving grace for this place. I'm sorry if I got into trouble it looked really bad from my end the way you were pulled away while speaking to me and got a little " talk" from the owner. If it weren't for your time and care Heather I would have walked out without purchasing anything! I left this place feeling horrible after an encounter with the store owner " Lady Samantha". Unfortunately she was no lady at all in her demeanour, manner, tone and communication with me. I'm of East Indian ethnicity. She was cold, abrupt, condescending with her tone and treated me like crap with looks of disgust, as I was enquiring about her space for possible rental to begin hosting my healing work. Now I know what " an untouchable" feels like. For a metaphysical store one would expect basic spiritual manners such as kindness and communication from the heart. This owner is severely lacking both and really needs to work on her attitude and energy she presents to others. I personally will not go back to this store again. I stumbled on to The Rock Store a few years ago literally by accident. It has been a match made in heaven for me! The staff (lovely Goddesses) has been tremendous at helping me with my requests. Whenever, I am in the area I make it a point to drop in and say hello. I am always greeted with a warm welcome and a hug. I usually purchase crystals, sage, abundance candles and angel cards. But aside from the retail side the store is a hub for light workers. There are many different modalities of energy work available to the public in house. I often partake in Chakra grids, Reiki, Peruvian medicine to name a few. I have even hosted a private light workers group upstairs as there is a meeting space available to rent. Many people seem to be attracted to the store often showing up not knowing what brought them there. The customer's experience can sometimes be rattling because it is the first time that they have ever been exposed to a room with so many healing crystals. My experience is that they often get overwhelmed as the negative energy (we are all prone to it) within the individual gets disturbed. I know because it happened to me the first time. My recommendation is to go back a few times until your body gets used to it. I am in the real estate business which equates to long work days & stress. I recently bought a package of Reiki sessions at the store. My experience has been great. I found it an amazing way to unplug from the daily grind of work. Not only I found the right stone I wanted I bought a silver OM sign pendant for myself too! :) The lady who helped me in the shop was a true angel. *Racial profiling I, a black woman, was the only one followed in a store full of people. This place has a bad vibe. Won't be shopping here any more. Others have expressed similar concerns. I've been told that several of the store's reps have been targeting visible minorities by selectively checking bags and following them excessively. While I was browsing through some of the books at the front of the store, rep came up to me. She didn't ask if I needed help, didn't welcome me to the store but coldly told me that 'hand bags are not allowed in the store' and asked that I leave my bag at the front. I smiled and happily gave her my bag. Shortly after placing my bag at the counter, I noticed the rep had made it a point to stand right behind me and stare as I browsed through the books on the shelf! Even though there were several other people at the store, others with handbags no less, she was incredibly focused on me! I am a petite African woman 5'5'', in a knee length pencil skirt, fitted sweater with no pockets, no purse. I am not sure why I would need to be guarded by her so closely while looking at books? I had no feasible way to make off with a book if that was her concern! Perhaps I was looking at the books for too long? Is there a time limit on how long someone can look at books at The Rock Store? If so, I'd like to know! Rep whose name I was told is Neelam literally stood behind and beside me for over 15 minutes - I moved left, she moved left - I moved right, she moved right, not once turning away from me or breaking gaze. I felt so uncomfortable at her tailgating me that I took one of the books to the opposite end of the store to read (far, far away from her). As I sat in one of the chairs to read, I noticed Neelam had walked up to me and stand literally 3- 4 feet away! Only now, she was towering over me while I sat in the reading chair. I find it ridiculous that after a full 15 - 20 minutes of my being in the store, only then does she ask me 'Can I help you with anything?'. I knew exactly what she was doing, she was trying to get me to leave the store. I said 'No, thank you' and continued to read my book. She then proceeded to ask the question again, 'Can I help you with anything?', to which I respond 'No, thank you. If I need help, I'll let you know'. She briefly stopped talking to me then but continued to stand just a few feet away, monitoring me as I read in that chair. After a couple of minutes of continued silence and staring, she started talking to me again! Unsure of what else to say to me she managed to ask 'Have you read THAT book before?'... I proceeded to tell her that I hadn't read the book before, which is why I am currently looking through it at the store. She continued to talk to me and ask me questions, irrespective of the fact that I had given many signals that I did not need help, nor wish to communicate or be followed. Neelam's energy felt so hostile and uncomfortable that I got up from the chair and moved back to the other side of the room! At this point, I noticed a young man walk up to Neelam to ask her questions about some of the products ... She curtly gave him one/ two word answers and continued to watch me, arms crossed from the other side of the room, as I tried to browse through books on the book shelf. I couldn't focus much on what I was reading as I was shaking and incredibly upset. ... Neelam was so unprofessional that other customers started noticing her behaviour towards me!! One of the customers actually turned to me and said 'It's so damn awkward in here'!! I could not stomach being in the store after that that I decided to leave but not before voicing my frustration about this disgusting experience to a nice blonde girl at the counter who profusely apologized. When I stepped outside of the store, I noticed some customers waiting for me. They said they had noticed Neelam's behaviour toward me and apologized that I had endured such a negative experience. 'She really lowers the energy of the store. Believe me,!'. The customers outside said that they would write a review on yelp to document what they had witnessed. I certainly hope they do! Neelam, you have a way of sucking. the energy out of the room, which is an incredible feat given all the healing crystals and sage in the store. Your behaviour was incredibly negative, hostile, and disingenuous. It does not belong in a healing, spiritual environment. The way you acted is the very reason that people need healing. After my encounter with you, I felt so incredibly humiliated, angry and belittled. I have honestly never had an experience like this in a store. read more

There are many things that I adore about this small but thorough independent store--if you are interested in the beauty and/or healing properties of crystals and minerals, this is (probably) the place for you. It has a marvellous selection of crystals and minerals (mostly in their rough, natural state, but some jewellery as well), books and cards in all price ranges, has knowledgeable staff, and is located in a great location--a quieter downtown street with an all around pleasant, earthy, hippie, vibe but still extremely close to public transit and other interesting shops and cafes. It's one of my favourite Toronto destinations in fact, and I was so excited to discover it! Each time I visit the store (I've probably gone 10 times), I'm usually in there for at least 20 minutes and always have left with a wonderful crystal companion (usually in the $40-$200 range). But... As some other reviews have also noted, at times, there is something slightly uncomfortable about visiting this store. I've felt overly watched/inspected and maybe a little judged...not sure exactly, but it's there--maybe they think I'm a snob!? I'm always pleasant, respectful of the staff's time, have never stolen or intended to steal anything there (or anywhere!) and I always buy a fairly big ticket item....Sometimes I've felt like the staff was doing ME a favour by ringing up my purchase and/or assisting me. I understand that stores have to be mindful of theft and that everyone has a bad day and/or judges other people to some extent, but something there is slightly off-putting, especially for the type of store that it is. Except for this, this store does deserve 5 stars! I'm hoping that the owner and staff read this review constructively and that my minor but not so great feelings will be abated the next time I visit this store--which hopefully, will be soon! read more

This store is a sanctuary. So peaceful, the atmosphere is very welcoming and intimate. The staff are well educated and helpful. Very patient with helping me learn which rocks would help me bring peace and security to my life. I will for sure be back to buy rocks and chat with the wonderful staff. read more

Out of all of the crystal/spiritual stores in the city this is by far the best! I've always received great help with any questions I have and enjoy chatting with the staff. While this store is beautiful and has a lovely selection of crystals, bracelets & tarot cards, I have had two very negative experiences with the salespeople there. I guess it's not only me, as I have seen this same complaint echoed in other posts here. Both times that I have been here, the salespeople do not even look up from the counter when I enter to acknowledge me. No hello, not even a head nod. Further, they do not approach at all to ask if any help is needed. My friend at one point went to the counter to ask a question and was met with a very short and curt answer before the saleperson went back to whatever they were doing behind the desk The energy is actually very very bad because of this and doesn't feel welcoming at all. It feels exceptionally snooty. I was willing to give it a second chance after the first time I went but after feeling unwelcome again I definitely won't be back. I would rather give my money to one of the other many warm and friendly crystal stores in Toronto. read more

This place has some nice stuff, but I am led to believe that they racially profile their customers. They have a 'no open bag policy' that they only seem to enforce on people of colour. Recently (on my second visit) an employee immediately swooped in on my Indigenous partner while totally ignoring me, though I was also standing there with an open shopping bag. I've had a similar experience at this mineral store - vibe wasn't as friendly and inviting as other stores I've been to. One store clerk seemed a little impatient with helping me choose a stone, and also slightly arrogant. On another visit I wanted to return a large stone i had purchased because i changed my mind about it and they proceeded to tell me that they do not grant refunds, which they should have mentioned at the time of purchase i feel. I'm tired of this store closing hours before it says it would, It's already happened to me more than a couple times and I waste a good portion of my day trying to get there. And every time they do happen to be open the staff there seem too smug to talk to me... but who knows maybe it's just me. All in all I'm not impressed by their work culture here. The employees seem too caught up on talking to each other or browsing the web than actually helping customers. I've never had any of these problems in the competing stores where employees are actually genuine and don't make you feel privileged for simply being there. On the plus side there are a quite a few unique products, but the crystals you could find in other stores cost a bit more but not by too much. read more

this store is amazing and surprisingly more affordable than i was expecting for a spiritual type store. the girl at the front desk was very nice and helpful and knew what she was talking about. she was able to help us find just what we needed and everything had a helpful description and name to go along with it and that also made it easier to find what we were looking for!! there was some calming music playing as well and it was overall just a really nice experience! would definitely come back!! read more

Loved coming in to this sacred space. I was in a vulnerable place because my Grandmother had just passed away. They let me take my time and browse on my own, and then when I had specific questions, Samantha was absolutely wonderful and informative.
