Eeeeee! I love the Rocket. I'm a big fan of kitsch, and I'm also pretty convinced there's a little part of me that's still 5 years old. Because this is like a toy store for grown-ups, it's become one of my favorite stores in Ypsilanti. Lots of fun Ypsi-related merchandise, the neat, kitschy housewares by the Fred company, candies, and other unique things make this an amazing place. The first time I went in, I bought a "Ypsi Terrier" shirt and a silicone ice tray that made ice cubes shaped like space invaders. LOVE IT. Seriously, this store will brighten your day. read more

I LOVE this place! It has something for everyone. I like to go when I have nothing to do and around downtown and just look around. There is always something new to see and its the first place I think to go for gifts. It is a pricey place. However, they have a signup for emails at the register that are totally worth it. They send coupons and let you know what deals are going on. I love to take friends here that are visiting from back home. When they come back to Ypsi some have wanted to go back because they remember seeing "such and such" they have to have for "so and so". It feels great to bring The Rocket business. This is definitely a place I don't want to disappear. read more

There is also a fantastic selection of socks which make great presents, and don't forget the perfect witty card to go with it! Soooo much candy too, it's so much fun to make a bag. The staff here are super friendly, and has some really unique merchandise I really liked. I would definitely recommend this to a fan of kitsch. The only downside for me was that it's rather cozy so when there are more than 10 or so people inside it gets rather crowded. read more

Can I just say how awesome this store is and I would recommend if you even drive through Ypsi you should stop in? This store manages to get me excited about lunch boxes and coloring books in a way a 32 year old woman should probably not be. They have an amazing selection of themed gifts and fun toys that will have you reminiscing and picking out birthday gifts for people who don't even have birthday's coming up. Their Michigan and Ypsi themed apparel and tchotchke's made me want to spend the allowance I no longer get. Being an adult sure can be a buzzkill when there is so much stuff I want to buy! And their candy section? Amazing. I buy a new treat every time I'm in here. If I can suggest something as well, go eat at Bona Sera and either before you eat or after, walk down to the Rocket and check it out. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

I love this place, I could just walk around for hours. It has candy, superhero lunchboxes and coozies, slap on tattoos, toys, games, books, I could go on and on. The staff is quirky and friendly and you just never know what you will find when you walk around the next corner. I went here shortly before Christmas just to kill some time before a movie and ...WOW! What a cool place!! I was able to find some last minute gifts for a couple of people I hadn't finished up with and was able to get some unique items that were perfect for them. Lots of quirky knick-knacks and unusual stuff! Old time candy and toys were every where. If you can't find something for yourself here or for somebody you're gift shopping for, you're not looking hard enough. The place is jam-packed! This is my go-to place for "Ohmigod what am I going to get that person" shopping trips. They seriously have something for everyone, and that someone you're shopping for will never know you bought their present that morning. They even have super cute wrapping paper and re-usable gift bags. Pro Tip, the paper toy monster book is one of the best things I've ever gotten for anyone else, but also for myself. This is honestly one of the coolest stores that I have ever been to! They have a little bit of everything! There were coloring books that contained themes from flowers to Star Wars to making fun of Donald Trump! There were themed mugs, cups, decorations, greeting cards, magnets, puzzles, toys, etc.! I have always meant to write a review for the Rocket. Met the owners of the Rocket when I was selling my time to a little store called Hudson's and they are nice folks. The Rocket is exactly the kind of place Ypsi needed as part of its revival appeal. I am very glad that Paul and Eli had chosen to put the store right across the street from my favorite Vietnamese place in the world. This Rocket is MEGA fun for killing time while waiting for a carry-out from Dalat and such a cute place to get little presents. It's also the best place to get Y P S I L A N T I T-shirts. read more
