We had Riccardo for our Express Colosseum tour June 2026 for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens). I understand there can be language differences, but as someone who speaks both Italian and English, even I couldn't understand the hybrid way the guide spoke - he left the whole group not understanding a single word. The explanations were monotone, the emphasis was on the wrong syllables and oddly, every word that should start with a vowel started with an H. Helephant. Hantelope. Height-Height. Also far too much time was spent on his binder of web photos. I'm not sure what company this guide was contracted through (as I'm fairly certain The Roman Guy uses third parties now, which is different from the first time I used them a few years ago), but TRG needs to review the fluency of their guides. This was my third tour of the Colosseum over the past few years and it was a complete waste of money. It was supposed to be only an hour and after 90 minutes of not comprehending a word we finally left. Since the official Colosseum site makes it not easy to secure tickets directly, I'm just viewing the whole experience as an overpriced entry ticket. Many people in our group just took their earpieces off after a certain point. Regarding the actual tour booking and the days leading up to it, I received a message a few weeks prior stating that the tour could not happen at the scheduled time due to operational issues, and would I be open to coming later in the day? They asked me to choose an option (which there was no second option presented but I presumed it was a refund) so I told them I would just take the refund as we had a flight to catch during the revised time. They wrote me back immediately and said that "they were just checking on if I could take the new time but the scheduled time is still fine". Very confusing, is it cancelled for operational reasons or not? The whole thing was just odd and I won't be booking again. read more

I would not recommend this tour company. We did the Privileged Entrance Vatican Tour with Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's Basilica. While the pre-tour communication was clear, and the process of herding the group through the entrance went smoothly, the actual tour itself was disappointing. The loose ear pieces are very tough to wear as they do not stay on. The guide's presentation was not interesting, dynamic or clear. She never even introduced herself which seemed weird to me. It was frustrating to stand still for 10-minute blocks of time looking at wrinkly laminated images of the masterpieces hanging just inside the building. Unfortunately, I think we were fooled by some of the glowing reviews on here. We also did the Express Colosseum Tour with Expert Storytelling Guide and would give the same review as above, except that the ear piece was slightly better as it was an earbud that stayed put. read more

From my understanding The Roman guy is aka The Tour Guy. We booked the 6:30am Early Access tour into the Vatican City. Well, guess what?! our tour guide was running late and we did not get in at 6:30 AM. However, the tour guide did arrive and we did get in at 6:53 am to purchase the tickets with our tour guide. (see picture). There was a representative from the tour company that inform us that we would be contacted later in the afternoon by the company to get a refund. I dare you to ask me if we got a call or refund. I'm sure most of you have guessed that the answer is NO! But hey! They did provide the audio device this time. I would be content with at least 50% refund for tour because of-the inconvenience of having to wait around & them not delivering on the skip the line or early access as advertised. That is the only reason we booked the tour with them in the first place. Maybe it was just a bad week for the company, I don't know. But it did make our experience at the beginning less pleasant. read more

This company changed my tour that I booked months in advance with it any warning or compromise. I booked the Colosseum arena entrance tour with the Roman Forum and Palatine hill. I booked for 6 people in the beginning of May for July 6th. Our time was supposed to be 9:30 a.m. I received an email about 12 days before the tour informing me we would no longer have arena access and our time is changed to 1:30. Unfortunately that time wouldn't work as we had another tour scheduled at 2:30. I emailed back immediately and received no response. I then had to call the next day was told that they are going to try to work on it and I should receive a call back to confirm the same day. I never did. I then had to call again the following day to be told there was nothing they could do. I am now left scrambling to try to find Colosseum tickets. I would never book with the company again or ever recommend them to anyone traveling. read more

I had the best tour guide in Rome. I used the tour guide twice once for the Colosseum. He was amazing. Very detailed, took his time explained everything showed us places. It made me really understand the Colosseum versus what I watched on TV. The gladiator. The second tour guy was a female. She was amazing. If only I could remember her name she took us to the Vatican St. Petersburg 16th Chapel the Jubilee, the whole 9 yards OMG she was amazing. Terrific. I loved her knowledge. She knew so much history so much information and I loved it. I will always use the tour guy, no matter where I go in Europe you guys are amazing. We loved our guide, Marta who was knowledgeable, charming, and very attentive. We visited multiple sites including Sintra and Cascais. We were allowed free time in.Cascais to explore and have lunch on our own at a restaurant of our choice. We booked a Colosseum arena floor tour with The Tour Guy for Good Friday, 4/3/26. We paid extra to have access to the arena floor. One of the members of the tour group reached out on 3/21/26 to inquire if the tour would be disrupted in any way because it was Good Friday. The tour company responded, 'At the moment, your scheduled tour on Friday, April 3rd at 10:45 AM is still confirmed as planned. Availability on that day can be limited due to high demand and special events; however, your booking remains valid and we will proceed with the schedule time unless you are notified otherwise. If there are any updates or changes from the local authorities that may affect the tour, we will inform you as soon as possible.' We showed up to the tour and after some introductory information, the guide casually mentioned, 'We cannot enter the Colosseum today, but don't worry, we'll get nice pictures outside of it.' The entire group was confused and thought we misheard her. She said they were not allowing anyone inside to prepare for the Pope to do the Stations of the Cross later that day, which apparently happens every year on Good Friday. I looked on the Colosseum's website, and they explicitly stated they were open from 8:30 to 1:00 pm on 3 April, Good Friday. I showed it to the guide, and her comment was, 'That was only for individuals that stood in line that morning to get tickets.' However, on The Tour Guy's website it says the tour includes a, 'Pre-reserved Colosseum entry ticket.' I contacted the Tour Guy and they refunded me half of what I paid. I explained that was not good enough for a tour my family did not actually go on. They offered me a credit for the remaining value to use in the next three years and refused to refund the full amount. I am now out $134 and have a credit I am unable to use since I have no plans to travel to Europe in the next three years nor would I trust booking with them again. Although I tried to do research and go with what I thought was a reputable company, I was fooled. Please do not get scammed like we did. Choose a different tour company. read more

We missed our tour to the Colosseum with Stephano so I can't rate his ability as a guide. However I can rate him as a communicator. He texted me to determine my location, I responded immediately. He did not respond until ten minutes later to tell me he was going into the arena. It was my fault that I was late but I felt he should have indicated earlier how much time I had to arrive.
