Our family of four joined another six people on the Testaccio 15-year anniversary tour and lucked out with Edma as our guide - not shown on their web site, so don't know how we got her. She was instantly personable, funny, thoughtful, and energetic without being nutty. We had a great first stop that ended up being a restaurant (Masto) we were delighted to return to later in the week and the owner happened to be there and we had a wonderful time with her again, and enjoyed the dinner just as we had the tasting. The stops were great, the walking easy, the food good, and Edma was a fountain of local geography and food culture information. Took the twilight food walking tour through the Jewish"Ghetto" with Fabio. He was knowledgeable, friendly, funny and all around great! We visited about 6 different places and tried so many foods - I did not expect to be THIS FULL!! Personal faves included the pork stew, the SUPPLI, and the fried artichoke. Family of four, we did the twilight tour in Rome. Cost $600. We were expecting something elevated but we were very disappointed overall. The portions were very small and the food was mediocre at best. Wine was average and the pasta at the end was not great. Maybe it was an off night; but we have had wonderful meals as a family for under $300 every night in Rome since then so it was kind of a rip off. read more

Would give them less than 1-star if I could. Booked the Trastevere Twilight Food Tour in Rome for my 2 children and I. At the time of booking, we informed them of the food allergies we had and we were permitted to book the food tour anyway. One of my children and I had severe food allergy to various fruits. When we checked in for the food tour we were advised we could not participate due to our allergies. After some significant back and forth they would only refund 2 of the 3 of us stating that the third would. it be refunded as she did not have any food allergies and she could go with the group and another adult that was with us who was going on the food tour and despite her severe food allergy, was permitted to go. My child is 12 and was not going to go without her mother and sister. it is wholly unacceptable that the company refused to refund the $150 US that we paid for the 12-year old who did not go on the food tour and them trying to force us to send her with someone else who was not her parent. We went on the VIP golf cart tour in Rome! This tour is genius and a must do!!!!! First we went to Ercoli which was this great Deli/Cafe/Patisserie! There we got an Aperol spritz cocktail and mini-charcuterie. The roasted zucchini with a hint of mint on top of the bruschetta was sublime! We drove to the top of a hill and saw the city landscape. Cool, but didn't seem to fit into the theme of a food tour and felt like an inefficient use of time, since we turned around and went right back down the hill. I think this should be reserved for other city tours. Then we went to the Jewish quarter/ghetto where we learned lots of history about the injustices towards the Jewish people even before WWII. So sad. We had some great white wine and fried cod which was just okay. I expect my cod to be crispy and hot! Maybe just a California thing. This was a great history lesson connected to food (Jewish people taught the Italians how to fry food!) Then on to da Enzo's. This place is very hard to get into; the line often has 60+ people in it! So we felt fortunate to have the fried artichoke! CRAZY GOOD ARTICHOKES!! This was my second favorite stop! The leaves were like potato chips but in a whole new level, and the heart of the artichoke took your food soul into paradise! Then to Michelin star chef/restaurant Angelina's! I can't say enough good things about this restaurant from the ambience to every part of the dishes we had. The pasta, Amatriciana, was perfect! I couldn't finish but I wanted to. I had the red wine and it was sooo smooth and paired perfectly with the pasta. Others had the white wine and it was cold, crisp, and refreshing on a hot Rome day! We stayed at Angelina's and had the BEST TIRAMISU ever! My wife doesn't usually like tiramisu in the United States, but she loved this one. Just the espresso, no liqueur! The cream was so silky and smooth. If I wasn't so full, I would have licked every ounce out of the jar!!!! Last stop Gelato. Now, this is where I want to talk about time usage. We were so full already. I wish we had had some time to digest before getting the gelato. Maybe now, would've been a good time to go see a cityscape, or just spend more time at Angelina's talking about food and culture and how Rome has influenced the international palate. Then we would've had time to digest and enjoy the gelato more fully. But I tasted my wife's gelato and it was the best gelato I've had that I can remember! Our guide Fabio was fabulous! Funny, articulate, great English accent, and knowledgeable about history Italian and worldwide. He was easy to talk to and I felt at ease with him. Again, for this kind of tour I would have appreciated less geopolitical history (which we've gotten the last 2 days on every other tour) and more history about the food and why it is so important and interwoven into the identity and pride of Italy. read more

We had the pleasure of a four hour food tour with our host Edma, who was energetic, dynamic, and with a great sense of humor. She was worth the price of admission. More importantly, she really knew the area and the food that we were about to consume. We made six different stops along the tour and stopped in at restaurants and little shops that did not offer seating. We dined on fried artichokes, burrata cheese and tomatoes, margherita pizza, a variety of pork, pastas, and gelato. We did not go home hungry. Don't be concerned if you have a food allergy. My wife and I are both lactose intolerant and Edma made sure we ate foods that fit our dietary needs. We met people from around the world and got to know them well. The price of the tour was reasonable and it was a great experience! I would highly recommend it. read more

We did the food and drink tour in Venice on Sept 19th. I booked the tickets based on all the good reviews. We found it to be a disappointing experience. The guests on the tour were all nice and friendly. It was the foods and drink that was disappointing. The food quality was subpar, and the drinks were below average pours. In retrospect, for the amount of money we spent on 3 tickets, we could have had 2 very nice full dinner meals with bottle of wine. We did a food and drink tour in Lisbon through a locally owned Portuguese company that was outstanding, and thought that this Venice tour would be similar, but it wasn't. Save your money and enjoy a nice family run restaurant off the main touristy streets. You'll be happy you did. read more

We booked the VIP Golf Cart food tour (evening) with Eating Europe Food Tours and it was FANTASTIC. First, our guide Gabriele was incredible, just a wealth of knowledge. It was SO MUCH food we were absolutely stuffed after. My teenage girls (and myself) could barely eat our pasta dinner which was the last stop before tiramisu AND gelato. It was NOT a tasting tour. It was tons of food LOL. The golf cart was great because we got to see a lot of the city that we would not have otherwise seen in such a short visit. Not any touristy sites, but just neighborhoods and areas that we probably would not have made it to in 2 days. Plus the golf cart was great for a nice breeze and resting in between stops. We have toured with Eating Europe in five cities and all have been amazing. Yesterday's in Lisbon was the best ever. We had done on tour with Eating Europe and Fred back in December 2023 when we did their combo food tour and TukTuk ride. We were back this fall with friends and the one thing we couldn't wait to do when we came back to Lisbon was to do another food tour with Fred from Eating Europe. We had done a different tour with Fred last December (he is a little scruffier now), and we had LOVED IT! So, we wanted to take the rest of our group on a tour to have a chance to experience Fred. His real name is Frederico, and by day, he is a humble food tour guide who has a vast knowledge of Lisbon and true culinary expertise. However, his real secret is that at night, he works as a stand-up comic. This means that besides great food and great info, you get hilarious laughs. I could tell you a lot more, but why bother? This is a MUST-DO if you come to Lisbon. Contact Eating Europe, choose any of their tours and specify that you HAVE TO TOUR WITH FRED! You will not regret it. That's all I need to say. The food was great and included five stops for some of the best food we have had on the trip. Most voted at the end for the grilled chorizo at the first place we visited as their favorite food, not counting the pastries we had as dessert to finish the tour. Taste of Testaccio - This walking food tour came highly recommended and I can see why. Arturo was a wonderful guide - very personable and funny with a quick laugh - as well as well versed in the many variations of delicious Roman food. He had a great rapport with all the shopkeepers, who were very welcoming to our small group. All the food was delicious, but I was especially impressed with the 15 year old red vinegar - so good. This is very simple. If you provide contact information for your customers, then respond when they contact you. Twilight Trastevere Tour: Such a great experience and so glad we did this for our first night in Rome!! I discovered Eating Europe while browsing travel videos on YouTube- Roma eats for 4 hours, it was no brainer. Company is very hands on and provide super in depth information prior, super easy meeting location. We had the pleasure of doing our tour with Valentina, such a doll- very personable, fun and knowledgeable! All the places we visited were local, had a homie aunthentic Roma feel and the food simply delicious- we tried everything from wine, melon, prosciutto to fresh pasta and gelato, no complaints! Our entire group was lovely and everyone appeared to have had a superb time. Also, we are now obsessed with Sangovese red wine haha! I am so glad we chose to spend four hours of our short time in Rome on the Taste of Testaccio walking food tour! It was such a wonderful way to immerse ourselves in non-touristy Rome. Our guide told interesting stories, led us to amazing food and answered all our questions. Note they have several tours in different areas of Rome at different times of the day. This is a foodie heavens paradise! It came highly recommended by a fellow foodie and we were warned that it isn't for the penny-conscious, but we were intrigued. It's a walking food and cultural/history tour of Testaccio, home of the middle class of Rome. This was also a perfect place to experience Rome away as a typical Roman and AWAY from the throng of tourists (sorry, but we were completely sick of that); it was definitely nice to be around locals in their neighborhoods and in quieter areas, versus millions of groups of tourists and pick-pocketers. You get samples of traditional/typical/local foods and the history behind each of it (I don't want to tell you everything to give away too much, but for the local market lovers, you stop by one!). You also get to sit down for a light lunch. Last, you get some time to buy some goodies to take away, and you move at a very steady pace (not slow that you want to kill yourself, but you stroll leisurely). Our group of 12 were the only non-local group sans the 9:00 am group. Gigi was amazing! She was friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and entertaining. No "I'm forced to do this tour" attitude, but really passionate and enthusiastic and made the walking tour truly spectacular. I def recommend doing this within the first day or so that you are there because it gives you way more ideas of food places to try. Worth every penny! We did the Taste of Testaccio tour because the neighborhood is known for authentic Italian food and is outside of the touristy area in central Rome. The Testaccio area is still walking distance or a short metro ride from central Rome. Highlight of our stay in Rome!!! The tour was 4 hours filled with so many different dishes, so much food, so much fun and entertainment. Our guide Domenico was so funny and charming. He had the whole group laughing away the whole day while we indulged in full portions of amazing food. A food tour unlike anything we've ever experienced before. After our long journey from NY to Rome we had a couple of hours to check in and get ready for our Twilight Trastevere tour. We were a little jet lagged and cranky but the second we started the tour our anxieties lessened with each sip of prosecco and morsel of freshly made bread. I am so happy that we booked this tour for the first night after reading all the reviews that recommended this. The food was all phenomenal, the next bite kept getting better than the last. The history lessons were intriguing. And the company was lovely. I have told everyone I know going to Rome about this tour. I hope I get to experience another one soon! read more

Went on the Testaccio tour. Armed with my iphone and an offline map, I managed to find this place with no problems. The meeting place is right outside a beer shop, and they have wooden benches and tables surrounded by fencing from the street. First off, come to this tour starving... they will feed you. At one point in the middle of the tour we had a sit down lunch and were served 4 types of pasta, family style. It was overwhelming. You'll also do a lot of walking. Wear comfortable shoes. I did this tour in the middle of July and pretty much sweat out all the water and food I consumed along the tour. Even though I would have given myself off as a tourist, I wish I had an umbrella. My favorite place on the tour, hands down, was Volpetti's. Mother. of. God. The proscuitto. I've never tasted any meat that was so melt in your mouth and buttery. The truffle cheese. The samples of balsamic vinegar and wines. I wish I could stay there and sample it all. It will be the one place I return to if I ever return to Rome. If you're looking for food items to bring back as souvenirs to your loved ones, buy them in Volpetti's. Our tour guide was very good. So friendly... every vendor seemed to love him, or maybe that's just how italians are. He was able to answer some of my questions about culture and graffiti, things that perhaps another tour guide wouldn't know, since he was an actual local to the area. Anyway, I highly recommend this tour if you want to see some off the beaten track food stops and a more personalized tour of the city. read more

Two of my big passions in life are food and travel. Whenever I travel I try to incorporate the region's food culture when crafting an itinerary. As Italian food is well renowned internationally it was a no-brainer to include a few foodie experiences in the cities I visited. With Rome containing both Vatican City and the Colosseum/Roman Forum (history-heavy sights), a food tour would incorporate something different that still serves as a learning opportunity while serving as a lighthearted break from the history overload the aforementioned sights can induce. Doing the research for my itinerary I realized that Eating Italy was a highly-rated and reputable company with positive reviews from both TripAdvisor and the major travel publications. It also helped that there's a discount if you know someone took a tour or purchased a Rick Steves guidebook. According to the reviews two tours particularly stand out: the evening tours in Trastevere and Testaccio. Both of these neighborhoods (along with Monti) are the "foodie" regions of the city - Trastevere being the more "hip" part of Rome while Testaccio, being further from the center, serves the local population. I initially signed up for both but they served so much food in the Trastevere tour that I simply couldn't stomach the same amount the next day. Despite walking close to 10 miles that day and eating as little as possible I came out of the tour feeling quite stuffed! Luca was my tour guide. He did a great job keeping our company of 12 entertained throughout the whole tour while explaining the significance behind each of the 7 stops on the itinerary. Overall the food was delicious; there was a good mix of the different types of Roman dishes though the food offered leaned more carb-heavy. Here are the stops on the Twilight Trastevere tour. 1. Da Enzo al 29. Though the restaurant is famous in its own right, the focus was aperitivo, which consisted of prosciutto, melon and fresh mozzarella cheese. According to Luca this is a typical aperitivo served on a hot day. This plate was served with a glass of Prosecco. The purpose of the aperitivo is to open your stomach for the heavier dishes ahead. 2. Spirito di Vino. The building and its wine cellar used to be the home of a Jewish synagogue and predates the Colosseum, hence not a lot can be done to preserve its historical significance. My favorite dish of the tour was served here - a slow-cooked pork shoulder prepared according to one of the chefs for Julius Caesar. 3. Innocenti (https://www.yelp.com/biz/biscottificio-innocenti-roma?hrid=ZtGmMePfgcLq4iMi7hc_xw). An established local business that sells over 50 different types of cookies, the Innocenti family has been serving the community since 1929. Our group was treated to three different kinds of cookies. 4. Norcineria Iacozzilli. A norcineria specializes in cured pork products. They served a mouthwatering porchetta in addition to samples of gorgonzola and Pecorino-Romano cheese. They also gave out generous pours of beer. 5. I Supplì (https://www.yelp.com/biz/i-suppli-roma-6?hrid=mIu3OCZ34Dxj52I6ML41OQ). This shop specializes in Roman street food - specifically the supplì, which is similar to its more famous Sicilian counterpart arancini. They also served slices of Rome's version of pizza al taglio, which is more like a snack as opposed to a full meal. 6. Casa Mia (https://www.yelp.com/biz/casa-mia-in-trastevere-roma?hrid=2WP0nYYA4V3rLBFk17O5gw). The sit-down portion of the tour takes place in a cozy restaurant serving 2 of the 3 Roman pasta specialties - cacio e pepe (Pecorino-Romano cheese and pepper) and amatriciana (spicy tomato sauce and pork cheek). With pasta being considered a 'primi' dish I would've preferred a proper 'secondi' (think more protein-heavy dishes) to complement the pasta. 7. Fatamorgana (https://www.yelp.com/biz/fatamorgana-roma-5?hrid=KYAG3Stx-mkF1EiNDLaotg). The last stop ended at a gelateria that focuses on all-natural ingredients. Here we were given a mini lecture on distinguishing gelaterias that severed the real product as opposed to 'fake' gelato, which are powder-based and are vastly inferior to the real thing. I got two scoops of pistachio and basil/walnut/honey, a combination that worked very well. Overall this was a well-organized, entertaining and informative tour that highlighted some of the established businesses in the Trastevere region. It is obvious that whoever created this itinerary knows this region well as all of the businesses featured are well-established and/or are popular with both locals and tourists alike. Should I come back to Rome I will finally do the Testaccio tour and make a reservation at one of the restaurants featured here. My only nitpick was that the included food was a bit on the carb-heavy side as I got full rather quickly when trying the pasta and fried food. read more

This was a great way of seeing (and experiencing) genuine Italian cuisine! Our tour lasted several hours and took us to a well composed variety of various local restaurants and small food shops along the way. Giving us the entire time great opportunities of tasting and sampling food and wine and also giving insight, knowledge and tips into the Italian kitchen and lifestyle though our very pleasant and knowledgeable tour guide. Our group also bonded during the tour (just as our guide said we would...) and we all enjoyed pleasant conversation with other group members on our walks between the eateries. Also on the upside is that the entire tour was held in a part of Rome that I'd never visited before and most likely wouldn't have had reason to visit if not for this very food tour. It's an old genuine residential area on the opposite side of the river from the Colosseum and the other highly populated tourist areas of the city. So if you wish to eat where the people of Rome themselves would choose to eat, this looks to be the right place! The tour was well worth the money it cost and the time we spent in and out of the eight different restaoúrants and shops we stopped by along the way. From now on I'm looking for the best local food tours I can find when I visit a new large city. read more

If I could I would give this organization zero stars. Like so many other people myself and five others planned an amazing trip to Rome for the beginning of the summer. I looked high and low for a reputable company to do an eating tour in TRASTEVERE. I came across eating in Europe and was very pleased with all of the reviews and types of tours they offered. I booked the twilight TRASTEVERE eating tour for myself and five others for our May vacation. Of course I had no problem paying the full amount upfront because that was what was required. Fast forward to everything closing down due to the pandemic and our trip being canceled. I reached out to eating in Europe to ask for a refund. I received a response that a refund would be no problem but please give them a little bit of time to get back on their feet. Understanding their situation I had no problem with this. A month went by and I hadn't heard anything. I emailed again and got the same response to please wait a little while longer and I would get a refund. 2 1/2 months after the beginning of my correspondence I sent another email. This time I was met with a reply of I'm so sorry but at this time we will not be honoring our return policy but instead you will receive a voucher. The voucher does me no good as I will not be traveling to Europe in the forseeable future. We are now out $650. Buyers beware that if something happens they will not stand by their policies. On the Twilight Trastevere Tour, we are in a vibrant neighborhood full of traditional, family-run establishments and local specialties; we are exploring layers (and layers, and layers...) of history, and culinary/cultural abundance in the Eternal City. Our guide and the other participants are kind and fun; the evening is delicious and interesting. Overall, the participating businesses in Trastevere receive us with warmth and are delightful. However, there are some stops on the tour where it feels as if they are not ready for us (perhaps we've arrived early?) -- or where owners and/or locals are not thrilled (understandably) with a tour group in the small shops. My family and I (including two boys aged 10 & 12) participated in a food tour hosted by Francesco Pasqualotto. We had an amazing time - whole family agreed that it was the highlight of our time in Rome! Francesco was very personable and informative, and the food was delicious. The tour group was thankfully small which allowed for a more intimate experience. The tour started with fried veggies which developed as a way for poor Romans to spruce up their meager offerings (that explains why our antipasto the previous night had fried veggies!) and continued on to pizza, an AMAZING deli with cheese, meat, and vinegar samplings, an outdoor market with fresh bruschetta (LOVE LOVE LOVE bruschetta in Italy), pasta from a restaurant carved into the side of a terra cotta mountain, coffee, and gelato. This food tour was just amazing! Our tour guide Catherine was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Reservations were easy to make and there are plenty of different types of tours to choice from which was nice. But, due to losing my purse in Rome, I emailed to ask if I could reschedule for another day. After all, i looked online to try and book a different tour and there were spots left. The company let me know it would be possible to switch to a later tour (5pm rather than 10am) but they charged me €20/p.p. for a "re-scheduling fee". Having i just lost my credit cards, debit card, and other cash, this seemed unnecessary. Especially because there were only 2 other people in our group, so I don't think my group of two were very hard to fit in. Also, while the tour was amazing, half way through I realized the tour I was rescheduled for was not the tour I initially payed for. I was planning on pasta making, but unknowingly ended up on the Twilight food tour, with no pasta making. While it was all an amazing experience, just some miscommunication and technical issues with my experience. read more

We did the Twilight Travestere tour while vacationing in Rome. It was great for multiple reasons. We got to explore a less crowded side of the city that was not on our radar, and all the spots we visited were great. One of them (Trapizzino) we agreed was up there in the top 5 of our entire trip. They had great sandwiches (different style from most local spots) and surprisingly good local beer. We had our six year old with us, and she had a great time as well. The 4 hours went by very quickly. We did it on our last night there. My fiancée booked the Twilight Trastevere Walking Food Tour for our first evening in Rome. Originally, we wanted to book the evening tour, but that was sold out. We were so glad that we went on this tour! It was a great way to explore a different part of Rome, which we probably would not have considered. We met our tour guide Domenico just before 5:00. Guess what - it was just us and Domenico, we had a private tour! Domenico was an excellent and knowledgeable guide - and just an overall awesome dude. He was very enthusiastic, and speaks great Italian as well as English. We found out he was born and raised on the east coast of the USA. If you love rock 'n roll, like we do - he is your guy. Since Domenico and I both love The Rolling Stones, we spent a good amount of time talking about them while walking along on the tour. After a brief history lesson of the Trastevere neighborhood, we began our journey. It was a very fun, enjoyable, and leisurely pace. The buildings, streets, and scenery are quite cool. The restaurant owners welcomed us like we were part of their family. We visited over a half dozen restaurants, bars, and specialty food establishments. Fortunately, we were able to spend more time than usual at these places - and were lucky to visit a couple of other places which were not part of the tour. This was because we were ahead of schedule, since there was just us on the tour. Overall, we highly recommend this tour - specifically on your first night in Rome. Love!!! Our Trastevere tour was intimate and delicious, and we loved our food guide. She was really nice, and was very accommodating for my nut allergies. She was sure to ask the place of business for them, and substituted food for when I couldn't have something. They really go above and beyond. Every stop was unique and off the beaten path, and included many excellent family businesses with lots of history and tradition. It also contained a variety of different courses - Breakfast pastries, savory treats, gelato, lunch with two different kinds of pasta and wine, cheese shop, meat shop, and a biscuit shop. This tour was recommended by a friend of a friend and I am so glad we took it. Outside of the main tourist area, this tour takes you through a "local working class" neighborhood in Italy. The tour is about 4 hours long and definitely satisfying (both in taste and knowledge). I am glad I went for an 8 mile run and skipped breakfast before this tour, because i was stuffed at the end. Our guide was Emma and she was wonderful. She made the four hours fly by. I wish I did the tour in my first day of Rome and not my last. It is a great way to learn about the food and eating customs of Romans. I don't want to say much else any ruin the tour surprises, but I will say it ended with some of the best gelato I had in Italy! read more

It was one of many highlights from our time in Rome and we can't wait to take the other tours in the future! As a food tour owner, I have high expectations when it comes to food tours and this one surpassed my expectations! Started my time in Rome with the Taste of Testaccio tour. After escaping the cluster that is Fiumicino airport and dropping my bags at an adorable little AirBnb, I hopped a ride to the heart of the Testaccio neighborhood to kick off the tour. Chiara got the group started off with daytime pizza (this is a real thing) from a local bakery and we were off! We walked. We ate. We learned. We laughed. It was a full 4 hours but it never felt long. (And this is coming from a girl who just got off a plane and was majorly jet lagged...) The price seems a bit high but is definitely worth it. Put on your walking shoes and wear your stretchy pants. This is one tour you are not going to want to miss. read more

So so so happy! This food tour made me so happy 7 different establishments, and so many delicious foods! I don't want to spoil all of the beautiful surprises of this tour (I did the twilight) but omg everybody should go on the eating Italy tours!
