I didn't even make it out of the parking lot before I heard/saw someone yelling to stop their dog from approaching me and my dog. It happened again while out on one of the trails. I know officers can't be everywhere but I can't recall the last time I've actually seen one in the parks. Dogs off leash is obviously never enforced because there is no worry from the people that are doing it and it happens at every park I go to.

The yard is large for ball playing, badminton, kids and pets running around, etc. The pavilion is large with two rooms to rent. There are picnics table under the hanging roof. Burton Wetlands is just that - copious amounts of water-logged lands in the rural township of Burton. This park features 2 human walk paths amongst these swampy features. The shorter Glacier Trail is a 0.5-mile stretech of "civilized" gravel walkway that winds you through the forest to Lake Kelso - a completely natural glacial lake formed by none other than the monsterous glacier that once sat on this area carving lakes and depositing silt as it expanded and contracted over thousands of years. At the end of the short walk is a canoe launch and a boardwalk to a dual observation deck. Further penetration around the lake is stopped by the boggy brush but the observation deck allows you to watch for jumping fish, eagles, herons, turtles, and all the other swampy critters who make this place home. Because of the natural preservation status of Lake Kelso, park officials only occasionally grant lake access for park-sponsored canoe programs but no other on-lake access is allowed to the public. The nearby house is home to the county's senior naturalist on staff. This whole gorgeous area surrounding the lake used to be someone's personal property - can you imagine that?! The second trail is longer, more natural, and is a loop trail. Except for the immediate entry, gravel doesn't layer this footing so expect far more mud and slosh than its sister trail. It first takes you across a grassy meadow before heading into a muddy forest next to swampy ponds. Expect to see lots of beaver dams, gnawings, and the occasional beaver him/herself. There's a little more up/down with this path but absolutely nothing strenuous or climby about it. Wetlands, as they all do, breed mosquitoes and deer flies - and the ones here are quite voracious during the above-70-deg-F season - so protect yourself accordingly (long sleeves, repellent, hat, etc.). A well-preserved natural area under the guise of good stewardship plus its quiet remoteness makes it one of our favorite parks.

This Metro Park is located on the east side of Lake county. I've been going there since I was a…read morekid. It's right on the lake shore and the landscape is constantly changing. In some areas the erosion is really bad, so you have to pay attention to your surroundings and what trails are now closed. I got married here in 2015, in front of the big stone sundial. A little history about the stone garden: " The memorial was dedicated on October 29, 1978 to Luanna Strock, wife of the park system's first naturalist Don Strock. The memorial includes a sculpted sundial designed by nationally-known sculptor Carl Floyd of Madison. The Lake County Unit of the American Cancer Society dedicated a memorial sanctuary of plantings in the field north of the parking lot." My hubby and I were reminiscing about our wedding day in the stone garden. It's such a beautiful, well maintained park that is so worth going out of your way for. A bonus is that the bathrooms are heated and have proper plumbing. It's nice to pop in for a minute to warm up in between adventures. There is still beach access, but you'll have to climb 93 creepy stone stairs each way to get there, but it's worth it. This park is a decent size, so plan for a day if you want to fully explore it. There is one big campsite available with a lake view, see the website for reservation info. It's a safe park that is patrolled. We are very blessed to have such amazing parks within 10 minutes of our home. Their sister park further west up the coast, Lake Erie Bluffs, is also well worth checking out.

There's a great deal of trails and rivers. Most of which I didn't have time to fully discover but everything here is well maintained! Thankfully not alot of people come here but this place also features an outhouse and a grill. Definitely reccomend coming here!
