Overlook

Fall is my favorite season to come here because the view from the overlook is so good! The trails are well marked, and there's plenty of parking. It's also easy to string multiple trails together if you're looking for a longer hike.

Went on an evening hike at this beautiful park tonight. (Not enough snow for the planned snow shoes). Fortunately had a guide which gave us good options. Most of the trail was lit up by hanging lights. They offered head lamps for everyone which came in handy for the not lit path the group chose. The view at the top was amazing and you truly can see downtown Cleveland. Everyone who worked there was friendly. Outside fire pit to warm up. Full facility restrooms available. Will come back again and try some snowshoes or cross country skiing.

Nice paths. First hill is quite a challenge. Bikes are welcome. Beautiful rock formations. Stellar view of downtown Cleveland, Euclid and lake from tallest point on trail. Picture perfect sunsets!!!

Nice little park! Clean, well marked and maintained hiking trails. Picnic areas and facilities. Wishing I stumbled upon this park at the beginning of my stay instead of on my last day in the area.

Meditating at the overlook :)

Having done another hike at Hinckley Reservation I realized I had not posted a review for one of…read morethe gems of the Cleveland Metroparks system. Hinckley offers as diverse a range of activities and some of the best view as any other park in the area. Most people know Hinckley from the annual Buzzard festival, the nice lake and the awesome ledges, but that is just scratching the surface. With the newly renovated dam and the lake refilled Hinckley Reservation is once again at its peak. I have often hiked at Hinckley, my most recent hike started at the Top of the Ledges picnic area, went down through the Ledges, along the North side of the Hinckley Lake Loop, on the Bridal Trails and then the Buckeye Trail back through the Ledges. If you are looking for some interesting hiking the Bridal Trails provide some nice variety from open fields, stream crossings, hills and narrow winding trails. Whipp's Ledges are some of the most impressive you will see; they provide multiple routes and views, plus there is actual rock climbing allowed. Less well known are Worden's Ledges on the other side of the park which while smaller still are lots of fun and they have some interesting carvings that are well worth visiting. The Lake provides the opportunity for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. There is a nice boathouse where you can rent a boat at reasonable rate, and while not terribly challenging, the lake is picturesque and getting out on the water is always a great time. Although I have never taken advantage at the bottom of the dam there is a nice beach and swimming area. Hinckley Reservation is a wonderful asset and a great way to get outside and enjoy yourself. This is a large park with plenty to do and see. Never been disappointed with a visit here.

The dam is a lot better after the reconstruction. Nice 3 mile walk around the lake. Concession…read morestand open during the summer.

It is a smooth 50 minute drive from downtown Cleveland. Taking 422 most of the way there with back roads the remainder. I was there in know time doing the speed limit. There are a few locations to pull off I noticed. So make sure you choose the Nelson Kennedy Ledges state park for gps. Have walking tennis shoes or boots on. Do not wear flip flops. The trail can be a challenge in anything else. You will fall in love with the beauty of nature. And of course the glass bridge is something that is amazing. I throughly enjoyed it and am already planning it trip back next month. Get there. You'll be glad that you listened and went.

An update to my review for Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park. This is a relatively small park, only…read moreabout 1 mile long, but it is packed with plenty of fun. There are a number of marked paths through the ledges, plus there are even more side trails and ways to experience the wonders of nature. There are 2 waterfalls, one big one at the North end of the park and a second shorter one near the South end. Of the 4 marked trails, the red trail is my favorite since it is the most challenging with some great rock scrambling. You want to be careful since there are some real cliffs and places where you can hurt yourself if you are not careful, but it also has more fun packed into it than any other park in the area. They have announced a new glass walkway over the Southern waterfall which I will have to get out and check soon. Go out and play.
