I'd compare this with the Queens Arms (see my earlier review) as the nearest thing to it, although the Rose & Crown benefits from having a large garden out the back making this THE place to go when it's sunny. The pub is in a beautiful setting, great for walkers and not too far from town to be worth the trip. We regularly leave the car here and get a taxi back into Yeovil or Sherborne which sets us back less than a tenner. There's regular live music and a healthy following of locals who are always in there, regardless. I've introduced this place to a number of guys from work, who now regularly take clients here for lunch.

There were supposed to be lemon and thyme stuffing with the dinner but we couldn't find any on our plate. The pub itself is quite big with lots of different sections. Ther is a good few fire places and when we visited they were all roaring. Nothing better :) Loved the interior a lot!! The food was also very good, typical good quality english grub. Nothing extremely exciting and high technique. But that's not why i went. No messing, hearty, flavoursome food. I shared the Desert for two with mum. Churros in chocolate sauce, brownie, peanut butter cheese cake and triffle. Ehhhhh unreal!! If I was ever back in the area Id go even just for the desert. The bar was open, so we went in, only to be told by the landlady quite rudely (in a manner suggesting that we are idiots) that there isn't a pub in the land that opens at 11 on Sunday! and that we'd have to come back later. Luckily theres a garden centre opposite so we killed some time there. 12 came and back we went, I ordered 3 cokes and an orange juice and sat in the garden. We wanted a baguette for lunch and after enquiring about the menu, we found that on a Sunday they ONLY serve a carvery. Fair enough but this information wasn't displayed anywhere. One course was £9.99. Whilst talking about the menu we discovered that the cokes were flat. So I took them back to the bar where the young bar staff had to call the landlady over to change the gas on the pump. She eventually got there and acknowledged the problem but then she started doing another task. I stood there waiting for another 5 minutes and then being fed up I just asked for a refund. Luckily the garden centre opposite had a shop, so it was back over there for a pasty! Rude landlady, luckluster service and no info about carvery only on a sunday equalled a bad experience.

Although I'd already cut into the burger and finished half the portion of their chips, they came back with a new portion of the meal. Went for the Annual Xmas meal with Friends here over the weekend and it was quite disappointing…read more Have been in for drinks before and some bar food and has been good but this was our first meal. When we were seated the presentation of the table was great, crackers and all! However we had to wait 20 mins for someone to come and take our orders ( we were not aloud to pre-order). Starters were good but we were kept waiting almost an hour between courses and actually had to go up and chase the manager (No apology, just told it will be out soon). Staff & Management presence on the floor was sporadic (Despite there being more than enough for the covers they had in) with the waiters either congregating at the pass chatting or reluctantly clearing tables. Our second drinks order was forgotten and had to be chased up and re-ordered, These finally arrived just before our desserts. The food was very good, its just a shame the customer service was lacking and at no point was our table touched by a manager to see how our meal was. As I said above, this is a great place for the bar, Cocktails and the great range of craft and obscure beers. It just needs someone to implement some steps of service and some service flair that would match the rest of the business so well.

We decided not to get another drink. Then as we were about to leave, he came from behind the bar to square up to us/me like a drunk would when trying to cause an argument. I am lost for words to describe this action. Continuing to debate his rules over if we could have whiskey with or without ice and why they don't' serve tequila. Finally allowing us to leave, he then appeared to boast to his friends (perhaps 'regulars') in the bar with his back to us. I'm not going to recount the whole story here, but suffice to say, I've been to many food and beverage establishments, and reviewed my fair share on here as you will see. I'm pretty sure this is the worst attitude towards customers I have ever encountered. We now have a new 'local' and won't be returning here.
