The pub itself is quite big with lots of different sections. Ther is a good few fire places and when we visited they were all roaring. Nothing better :) Loved the interior a lot!! The food was also very good, typical good quality english grub. Nothing extremely exciting and high technique. But that's not why i went. No messing, hearty, flavoursome food. I shared the Desert for two with mum. Churros in chocolate sauce, brownie, peanut butter cheese cake and triffle. Ehhhhh unreal!! If I was ever back in the area Id go even just for the desert. A beef casserole could have been mistaken for oxtail soup, seriously, I was still waiting for the meat and veg when I was told "that's it !" The other sad occasion I tried a mixed grill, I think it was a "boil in the bag" one. It all tasted the same. I nearly tripped over kids toys on the way out, never again (until a change of management) I have spoken to others who have been here and they have experienced the same. In those 10 minutes the manageress looked at me multiple times but carried on drinking and talking to her staff behined the bar. A very young lady firstly came with 2 turkey adult roasts - we said that wasn't for us and she said 'yeah it is' - errr no it is not. At this point the child is very hungry and we had to ask for a different plate to transfer her food due it being very hot. Again we were asked 'why' by the very young adult... Everyone agreed the meat was nice but everything else was terrible and cold. We were asked by a very young man how I food was and I said 'would you like an honest answer?' The decor is typical of a traditional pub, the clientele mostly locals, some families, lively but not overwhelming. The service was spotty in parts - oddly worse when the place emptied out - but pleasant and responsive when asked. I loved the teapots, cups and tiny milk jugs served on little trays with a smidgen of cake to make you smile. And the sticky toffee pudding was damn good too. If I am ever passing through the New Forest again I would most certainly stop here, even if it was wasn't pouring outside!

The menu is varied and there is usually a wide range of specials. The menu favours local produce and the portion sizes are very generous. It's not the cheapest pub meal you will ever have but it's so good quality I guarantee you'll be back for more. For the rare days of sunshine there is a large outside seating area and play area for the smaller visitors to the pub.

I think weatherspoons is like marmite you either love it or hate it, so that is why i have put my rating as on the fence!!! Food is ok and the atmosphere is so so...
