I've only been here a couple of times, for lunch while on holiday a couple of year ago but, unless its changed a lot since then, I'd really recommend it. The meals are fabulous, really big and hearty food! I'd especially recommend the Glamorgan sausages - they were gorgeous! Its right in the middle of the town and has a really nice outside area - wonderful for family meals! read more

The Lonely Planet lists this pub as the one with the nicest food in town. If that's indeed the case, then this is pretty sad for Fishguard. While the pub provides a really nice atmosphere, the service is slow and the food is worse than what you get in the average British pub. Half an hour after we've ordered our food, we asked how much longer it will take, and they said that they'd overlooked our order, and that they'll make sure that our meals are prepared immediately. Another half our later, when we already considered to leave and asking them to give us our money back, the food arrived. The chips were soggy, the rice wasn't freshly cooked, and the "prawns" in the prawn curry turned out to be tiny shrimps. I'd recommend to go there and have a pint (because the pub is one of the main sights of the town), but get your food somewhere else. read more

History
Established in 1797.
We are famous for its place in history as in 1797, the French unsuccessfully attempted an invasion on the west coast of Wales only to be thwarted by the locals. A peace treaty was signed between the British and French in the bar area of the Royal Oak. Apart from the 'Olde Worlde' public bar we also offer a large lounge area, leading to a terraced patio beer garden. Food is available, and you will be able to choose from a wide array of bar snacks and more substantial meals. Our pub is a grade II listed building and is handily located at the centre of the fishing and ferry port of Fishguard.
