Check out at 12, so you don't have to rush in the morning. Free wifi everyday for 30 minutes. TV in the room, but very bad image quality and very few channels. Wardrobe space when you enter the room with hangers. So far so good. But then I went to the bathroom. And I wasn't impressed. It had been cleaned but there was a funky smell to start with and there was a horrifying bath mat stuck at the bottom of the bath. Positive point: safety-wise, it does prevent you from slipping. Not so positive point: it looks minging and full of germs. In addition, the show curtain was a bit too long and therefore didn't look the best at the bottom. Whereas there was plenty of pressure at the tap, the shower was ridiculous. I am glad I haven't got longer hair otherwise I would have taken me an hour to wash my hair. I was going to give it a 4/5 stars till I reached the bathroom. If it was getting sorted (not just putting new sealant around the bath, it would be an excellent value for money hotel.

The staff are actually very friendly and professional and check in/out is a breeze. The rooms are standard for a Travelodge, very clean, pretty spacious and contains everything you need for a stay. The rooms have TVs as well as a small table and chairs and obviously a bed. Although Travelodges in general have very little personality and character this does not take away the fact that it is a good, cheap and convenient place to stay.

As soon as you walk through the door you can tell the owner loves it. Decorative touches give it understated chic which can be difficult to obtain in a smaller establishment, but works really well with the structure of the place - circluar corridor upstairs which gives a gallery view of the bar area, and the wooden beams across it - and makes the atmosphere relaxed and homey. I had a single room which was nicely furnished. The wireless worked perfectly and the breakfast was fantastic! The reasons I gave it four stars not five, were that the mattress could have been a bit thicker and the walls are thin enough to hear the music downstairs, until at least 11pm; it could have been a bit quieter in the late evening.

The staff were really attentive and very pleasant and personable without being in your face! Because it was a special occasion I had booked a cabin. I chose a spa cabin, a little bit more expensive than the standard but still excellent value and the jacuzzi was enormous! After a bottle of bubbly and a luxurious soak in the bubbles we were ready for our bed on the mezzanine. The rooms were terrifically well appointed and quite by far the most reasonably priced luxury we've enjoyed in a long time. I have a feeling we're going to be holding a lot more celebrations at The Gardeners!
