Bell mason jars for our shakes

This place has been on my to-do list for a while, having heard good things around the ridges. Got the opportunity to seek it out amongst the residential streets of Stafford Heights recently and wasn't disappointed. The great experience started with cheerful service. The baristas and table servers clearly enjoy their job and made us feel right at home. We chose to sit outside at one of the big tables. We'd arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday and the place was half full of people lingering over their meals. The Olympics were playing on a TV mounted high on the front window and we perused the menu with interest. We chose an iced coffee and a milkshake accompanied by a New York Cheese Grilled sandwich each. The drinks arrived promptly followed by the meal and it looked great! I do love the American custom of adding pickles to everything and we both thoroughly enjoyed our "pimped" toasties. The menu has plenty of original offerings if you're up for something bigger or a bit left of field! Yes, the decor, menu and food presentation were almost stereotypically hipster, but what cafe isn't these days? We were happy to pay a little more when the food and service were so perfect.

We called ahead to book a table, though when we arrived we realised that it was more of a fast food establishment than a restaurant. The waitress was very friendly, she provided us with the menus and explained how we needed to go up to the counter to place the order. She recommended that we try the Pit Master Pack, since we had not eaten there before. This goes for $59.95, and the two cans of soft drink ended up costing a good $7. The Pit Master Pack consisted of ribs, quite a few buffalo wings, hand pulled pork, coleslaw and fries. It is a good serving for two people. I am not the biggest chicken wing fan, though enjoyed them, apart from there being a bit too much sauce. We chose the cheese covered fries, though they weren't that great, we probably should have gone with the plain fries. The food was nice, though far from mind blowing, which made the pricing hard to justify. We left a bit unsatisfied in terms of how full we were, and how much everything cost, even with the voucher. I personally wouldn't visit here again, it is not for me. I would only recommend this establishment to someone who was really into buffalo wings and ribs.

Seriously, the food here is not cheap. BUT - it is bloody good. When our order arrived my eyes drank in the beauty of my pulled beef roll, while hubby rubbed his hands with glee over his chilli hot dog and loaded fries. And the first bite made the pain of the cost fade away- amazing. Well worth it! In fact despite being hungry I I couldn't eat the whole thing as the servings are generous. When this joint first opened there were lines out the door and long waits, but we were one of only three diners at lunchtime today. The cute checked tablecloths and mustard with ketchup on the tables adds to the US of A atmosphere, the only downside to the location on a nice day is being serenaded by the traffic on the main road. Two thumbs up for the food. My wallet is still hurting but at least I'm so full I won't want dinner tonight.

Not anymore, with tables packed and people queuing out Miss Kay's door. So there's many things to like about this place, sadly the burgers isn't one of them :( I've tried 3 different burgers and they all lacked some kind of sauce or marinade for my liking. I don't really mind what they put on it, I'd be happy with ketchup, BBQ, mayo, aioli, satay, sriracha - my palate is a broad church. The burgers just need something in my opinion. As for the sides, the fries are good but they really need a smaller sized option for those grabbing a solo weekday lunch. The $8.50 milkshakes have cool names, and they would be fine if they were half the price or twice the size. Overall, unfortunately it doesn't look like this place is for me.

I did a take away order, and the lineup and the stacks of hungry patrons waiting for their meal was enormous. This means that they are either heavily understaffed, or their food is awesome! Luckily it was the latter. The counter staff took my order, and told me it was a 30 minute wait (which turned out to be pretty accurate). We ordered a Getta Boss burger (beef brisket, bacon, cheese, pickle, jalapeños and special bbq sauce), Getta Pulled Pork (pulled pork and coleslaw with bbq sauce) and a serve of chips. The burgers were big. Big enough that we didn't really need the chips (which were huge too). They were quite tasty, and very filling. I will definitely be back again, that's for sure. The chips were so large, that I would definitely recommend 1 serve between 2-3 people, if you are all ordering a burger. I have rated this a 4 star meal. It is not the best burger I have ever had, but it was far from the worst. I would rate this burger as better than grilled, and burger urge. But probably not as good as da burger.

Normally the special price would be reason to celebrate - but after 50 minutes of waiting (that's right! almost an hour for 3 hotdogs and 3 fries) we were quickly questioning the value. At this point you might be thinking "well maybe they were just busy" nope! There was less than 6 other customers spread over 2 tables in the entire restaurant (see pic). While we waited I was thinking to myself "these must be some serious gourmet hotdogs" trying to find any reason to internally justify the wait. When they finally did arrive, I was shocked!!! The chips were cold the hotdog buns were cold and the hotdogs looked like the ones you get from a Wendy's or Donut King. Do yourself a favour and grab a $1.99 hotdog with a free drink from Costco because not only does that represent better value, it also tastes better.

The cafe is located at the back of the IGA complex with a generous outdoor patio area away from the main road. There is a concerted effort by the cafe to green up their area with plants (recently rejuvenated with spring on the way) and it really helps to break up the usual car park feel so many cafes can have in shopping centres. For families with young kids there is a great little section set up with plenty of toys to keep your little ones occupied. Having been here a few times I feel like I can confidently say that the food that we've had has been really good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a great place for breakfast or lunch. There is a slightly Spanish bent to many things but also plenty for those just wanting a snack or something straight forward. I do find the coffee a little inconsistent depending on who is making it, not that it has bad flavor but more that the milk is over heated, perhaps that is just my personal preference though. The service is friendly and prompt regardless of weekday or weekend visits which is important. I just wish they were open on Sunday's and public holidays as we'd probably frequent them more than we do now. All in all this addition to the local cafe scene is a vey welcome one for us in Everton Hills and somewhere I would recommend if you're in the area.
