We visited the Rusty Burrow on a rainy day, taking a seat outside undercover and admired the trendy set up. We both ordered the Rusty Breakfast which was massive, but I was so disappointed with the barely warmed up bacon. I'm sure that there must be some people that like their bacon like this, barely cooked with no colour and not a hint of crispiness, but I am definitely not one of them and I pushed it aside. This would have been an awesome breakfast with some delicious crispy bacon, and if we were to go back I'd have to ask if they can cook crispy bacon before ordering as it was such a let down compared to the rest of the meal. read more

Was a Saturday morning around 10 and we were keen to try the infamous fried chicken and waffles. Had drinks to start, fresh juice was delicious and the coffee was pretty good. Waited about an hour for our two meals (not sure if it was because we moved tables but that wasn't long after we sat on the first ones) Others who arrived after us, had received their foods and even left. When they realised they messed up, the waitress was really nice to offer us free drinks and 20% off. Was really humbled to hear that and it was good they took responsibility and reprimanded it. Fried chicken and waffles was a bit of a disappointment. Chicken was a bit dry, skin didn't have a nice batter and was too oily. Waffles were too bready and over drizzled with the maple syrup. Bacon was nice though. Think it's a great idea to have on the menu but the chicken should be southern battered fried chicken, waffles should be thinner and crunchy and not so much maple syrup. Got our meals discounted so was I happy. Keen to come back and give them another chance till I decide to become a regular. Rooting for you guys! read more

Not sure of why there are poor reviews? Sounds like the previous a management did a poor job and this poor reviews. Great food, good service. We went for Father's Day breakfast and it was busy as expected but not over the top. We were immediately seated and within 10mins had coffee and food in 20. The food was great, coffee was good. I had the fried chicken waffles. They looked so sickening but we're really good! Just don't eat too much. My girlfriend had the big breakfast and it was wonderful. My only complaint and thus the 4 stars was the price. Everything was 10-15% more than it should be. The big brekky was $22. Normally $18-19 at most places. The eggs Benedict was $19; should be $16. The fresh squeeze juice was $6!! I appreciate its home made; but seriously, I had to pay $6 for my son to have a few sips of a juice. Other than these points it was great. This place has been on my to-do list for a while, having heard good things around the ridges. Got the opportunity to seek it out amongst the residential streets of Stafford Heights recently and wasn't disappointed. The great experience started with cheerful service. The baristas and table servers clearly enjoy their job and made us feel right at home. We chose to sit outside at one of the big tables. We'd arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday and the place was half full of people lingering over their meals. The Olympics were playing on a TV mounted high on the front window and we perused the menu with interest. We chose an iced coffee and a milkshake accompanied by a New York Cheese Grilled sandwich each. The drinks arrived promptly followed by the meal and it looked great! I do love the American custom of adding pickles to everything and we both thoroughly enjoyed our "pimped" toasties. The menu has plenty of original offerings if you're up for something bigger or a bit left of field! Yes, the decor, menu and food presentation were almost stereotypically hipster, but what cafe isn't these days? We were happy to pay a little more when the food and service were so perfect. read more

Imagine sitting in anticipation of a big breakfast - salivating at the thought of gobbling up the beautiful crispy bacon mountain you're sure is coming with the behemoth breakfast you ordered. But suddenly the wind changes, and strange music starts to play as your breakfast gets delivered. Your food boner immediately dissolves and you gasp as you realize your dream breakfast turns out to be covered in blonde soggy bacon. Not only that but you can see the haloumi is crispy fried, surely they've worked out how to cook this delicious cheese - how could they still commit this crime against bacon? Coffee was 6/10 with a slight sour taste, but not the worst coffee I've had. The ambiance and space is excellent, but for the food and cost needs improvement. Call me when this changes guys and I'll be there will bells on. read more

My favourite breakfast spot on the Northside. I started coming here last year and have never been disappointed by the food. Before it changed names/decor, it used to be full table service but unfortunately now you go up to the counter to order and pay as you leave. Takes a bit away from the experience. All in all, I've always had a great experience, never had to wait for a table, always great service and the foods always fresh. Keep up the great work! read more

Drinks were good. Food was ok. Service was poor. Although there appeared to be more than enough staff employed at the time on a Saturday morning, it still seemed like they couldn't serve the customers very effeciently. Orders around us looked like there were getting things wrong. With a view of the kitchen/food waiting area, meals were sitting there under the heating lamp for over 15 minutes (after they were returned from the aforementioned serving errors). Some other people around us had to actually go up to the counter to get service even though it's table service... The food itself was ok. Tasty enough, though nothing flash. It just so happened that as we were eating they received some inventory/stock (which I'm not critical of - every business needs supplies). Though it did appear that my meal may have been completely out of boxes (fried chicken with waffles) - i reckon that's pretty unfortunate. My wife got the smashed avo, no complaints there. Drinks were good (coffee and a (BIG) fresh juice). We thankfully went using a voucher. I'm giving 2 stars. Really need to improve service and possibly the quality of food (very small sample size though). read more

It's good to know there's a bar 5minutes away from us when we feel like hanging out with a few lagers... I mean friends! Seriously though, I was here for an early dinner and drinks with a few friends who live locally. It was a pleasant evening. The place wasn't too busy but there was a nice bustle. We had hot dogs, fries and chicken wings which were good though I must admit the chicken wings lacked flavour, and that's the chipotle and buffalo! The staff were attentive, checking on drinks every now and then. We ended up packing away some of the chicken wings which they allowed. We'll be back. I've now visited here twice and both times we have had to wait over an hour for a simple breakfast. The first time was Mother's Day so we put it down to them being so busy. We decided to give them a second chance and left feeling extremely disappointed and dissatisfied. When you roll out of bed early to beat the breakfast crowds, you don't expect to see multiple tables arriving, eating and leaving before you have seen a single morsel of food. After 50 minutes I asked the staff how long our meals would be, I was told that they were being dished up. Over ten minutes later our plates arrived. My husbands was placed on the opposite side of the table, no offer of an apology, no eye contact, no offer to replenish our coffees which had been finished 40 minutes prior. My hash brown looked like it had been broken to pieces on the journey to my plate and was sat on an oil slick. I have felt less sick after eating breakfast at McDonalds. It's a shame that a local cafe disappoints both with staff and food. They won't be getting a third chance from us! read more

I really liked the previous incarnation of this place. We visited on the weekend for a family lunch and were a little disappointed because they were short of things. My Aunt ordered nachos but they came back 15 mins later and said there was no sour cream. My deluxe chicken burger was loaded with chicken, but it was insanely tough, almost impossible to cut with a regular table knife. When we ordered coffee it took another 25 minutes and two wait staff to get a teaspoon, apparently those ran out too. On the plus side the coffee was nice and the wait staff while compromised by their kitchen were as accommodating as they could be. read more

Went here today for breakfast and won't bother coming back! Arrived at a touch before 11 and ordered two coffees and our breakfasts. After about 40 mins, and seeing some other diners receive their meal (that arrived after us) we became a little concerned, but decided to remain patient for another 10 mins. Finally we asked the waitress what was happening and she replied with "they're coming now". Immediately after this another guy (manager?) came out and remarked "Oh sorry, we thought you had eaten already! Your meals will be 2 mins". Hmmmm so anyway, after 5 more mins with no meals we had enough. My partner grabbed her bag and instead of the manager (we think) being concerned about us, he made a beeline straight to the kitchen to tell the cooks to cancel the order! More concerned about his bottom line than dealing with us. Turns out our order WAS MISSED. Terrible customer service. We ended up getting an apology from another guy in there (perhaps the other owner) and he seemed to be more worried about our plight than the other chap. He gave us our coffees at no charge, and thats the only reason we give this place 1 star. A shame, menu looked good but we will never find out. read more

We waited to get served, gave up and went to the counter to beg for coffee. The coffee took over 30mins to arrive then our meals took even longer. I ordered pancakes, and five minutes later the waitress came to the table to say they were out of pancakes. So I ordered an omelette which was burnt when it eventually arrived and came with hunks of white bread that was barely toasted. We then ordered tea (as the coffee was weak and undrinkable) but after a 40 minute wait we gave up and left. No, we won't be back. read more

Went there again last week after a few months' break. Very disappointing to see the demise of this place after such a short existence. Feel sorry for the staff and chef as obviously there are a lot of issues with food supplies in order to cater to meals and requests from the menu. We didn't get what we wanted. More recently, it appears the once efficient processes that meant your food/coffee would arrive (with a smile) in a decent timeframe has also taken a turn for the worse. Such a shame given its great location. Maybe the owner needs a Gordon Ramsay rescue? read more

Quite disappointed. Our waiter took our orders for our table of 4, then came back on three separate occasions to let us know that the meals, or items on the meals we had ordered were not available. Good service would've meant that we were informed of the missing menu items before we ordered. When I received my 'Eggs Your Way', I had two poached eggs on one small piece of toast, and my tomato relish seemed to actually be a spoonful of crushed tinned tomatoes. My partner ordered a toasted tomato and cheese sandwich which remarkably had one whole side that was uncooked and soggy. Also only one of the people at our table had cutlery when our meals arrived. Service was good but the food was very disappointing. The chicken wings we ordered still had feathers on them, my friend and I thought for a moment it was part of the overall presentation. They were undercooked, hardly had any sauce and had some sort of chorizo/sausage aftertaste. The rib had no flavor and was too tough. Waffle was good, and so is the coleslaw.
