My experience as a student here was HORRIBLE to say the least. Money is the main concern of the school and it definitely shows. My education was greatly hindered here as no one in the business is qualified to be an educator. The owners are quite dismissive to people of color and the concerns they have regarding racism happening. The "loan company" is owned by tspa resulting in them to make change and adjust me as they please. I never felt welcomed or that my education or future mattered the whole time I was here only like a dollar sign. Being here, really traumatized my foundation in the beauty field, and I will urge anyone to stay away. read more

My daughter and I tried this place because the headmasters in Tyler is where we get our haircuts and they don't do perms. My daughter has very straight hair and wanted to try a perm/ body wave. I got my eyebrows waxed and a haircut. My daughter got a perm and 3 full size perm products for her new style, it was $130 total. That's a bargain! The students and instructors are very professional and attentive. We had a great experience and will go back for sure. Alyssa did my hair cut and eyebrows and I was very pleased. Sierra did my daughters perm and styling, she was so happy with the results. This place was clean, well staffed and professional. I graduated from TSPA January 2022 from the esthetician program. To anyone thinking about going here for esthetics, please beware that this is honestly just a place to teach yourself. When I toured this school, they told me they teach makeup (which is what I'm most passionate about). This school taught me absolutely nothing about makeup. The only "experience" my class got with makeup, was being told on a random day to do a makeup look on each other. With no guidance what so ever. Makeup education was never brought up again. Each member of my class had paid $500 for the worst makeup kit we've ever witnessed. The staff rarely talk about the esthetician program during the daily morning meetings every student is required to go to. They are way more involved with the cosmetology program and make it very obvious. There's always instructors coming and going, whether it's them being fired or them leaving the job themselves because of how mistreated they are. Miss Debbie & Miss azalea were amazing, but I believe they have left by now. The rules with this school are always changing, you'll get in trouble for things that don't even make sense. TSPA fails to hire people that will treat students right, (this is not including the 2 women I have already mentioned). This school is not accredited. Meaning that if it were to be shut down or if you got kicked out, you won't get any school credit towards another institution for the money or time you spent at TSPA. They also told me they have a 100% passing rate in state board testing, which fails to be true. Students are not heard, you will be left in classrooms for hours- expected to sit there and read a text book all day. And if you merely check the time on your phone, you're sent home without them even wanting to hear you out. I've witnessed multiple girls in my class getting sent home by Miss Susan for emergency situations they needed their phones for. You won't be treated like an adult here. Sometimes, you can tell a staff member how you feel and what needs to be fixed, but it's rarely ever taken seriously or fixed. Supplies are constantly out, most of the time you can't use everything on your client that you need to. Too much of your money is going to be taken from you for the education and treatment you will be getting. Many girls, including myself, felt constantly unheard and bullied here. . I hope by now things are more in order, but this was my personal experience. The reason I gave this review 2 stars instead of 1, is because miss Debbie & miss azalea and a few girls in my class made my experience worth staying for, despite how horrible the rest is. read more

Just went in for a shampoo and set. The instructor acted as if he had no idea what I wanted! They had no quality products for African American hair!! I left looking worse than when I came in. After the student was finished I informed the instructor of my disappointment He (instructor) informed me that he would definitely relay that information to the owners. The student was awesome......he did exactly as he was instructed to do. What is also disturbing is that the instructor was previously employed at another beauty school so I know that he knew what products to utilize on black hair. If you didn't have it I would have preferred the honesty instead of the crappy hairdo!! read more

The Salon Professional Academy otherwise known as TSPA in Whitehouse, TX. While appearare inviting and the tours are exciting. This place is full of empty promises and many lies. This is a place of great hypcrisy. This place is a place of poor management, inconsistent of training/staff the lies/lack of the education you will receive and not to mention the intimation/threat of being suspended/ terminated/in my case kicked out. Being a student instructor at TSPA with over fifteen years experience in the beauty industry. I was told I don't know how to cut hair, disrespectful when asked question (s) [just standing up for what you paid for] also not a good role model for the ladies to follow. After which the director of education and her instructor assistant collaborated against me to discredit/ contradict my work with the student (s) present. Which you sign a paper vowing not to undermind any student and/or instructor in a negative way. TSPA is like a cult you have money they will stress/intimidate staff/ students if you speak out about any of their wrong/ distasteful actions. Being a student instructor who started there part time in February 2021 needing 500 hours to complete was kicked out with only having 335 hours at hand. As a student instructor assisting a student with a client (the same method used as with other students/instructors since March 2021) to see the wonderful job this student has done using a camera just like previous times. I was kicked out for taking a picture for the client to see. When I questioned why I'm being kicked out the director of education said I'm very disrespectful/ loud/ outraged to her and her staff for questioning her. That I need to go and provide services at my own salon and seek another school to attend because I'm not wanted/welcomed at TSPA. read more

I just graduated school here and I have decided not to discourage anyone from attending but to warn them not to do it if they have other options. By all means, if you were like me and this is your only opportunity to make something of yourself, do it. However, you are going to have to fight for it because this place is awful. I taught almost everything to myself and the only helpful thing was having a place to practice. There was no curriculum being followed, terrible communication and treatment to the staff, and one particular instructor who was out right cruel to my class. I never got sent to office when I was in high school or even had a teacher have to get on to me in class but I got threatened with expulsion here! The way these people handle anything that negatively affects them is by telling other people they're going to shut up or they would be kicked out. There is no standing up for yourself or getting what you paid for here. I do not wish for the school to be shut down because that would only hurt the students still attending but there needs to be better organization and fair and kind treatment to both the staff and students. read more
