I don't even know where to begin about this specific Salvation Army! From the staff, to the clothing selection and up keep, everything about this location is amazing! For starters, this is my dedicated, neighborhood thrift store! The first time I went, I was sceptical, because it was so packed! I am talking, it felt like everyone in Dallas frequents this location! It is a drop off/donation center, so it makes sense! But omg! I am so glad I did that day! I have since been back many times, especially on Wednesday because all the clothes and bags are half off! As for the staff, everyone is always so happy and kind! I can go in and walk around for hours, having individual convos with each employee! It is the best, truly, and makes the experience 10x better! Finally, the clothes! Like I said, Wed is the best day because everything is half off! I have found some amazing pieces! Some of which are name brand for very low prices! For example, I found 3 REAL Coach bags, and I got 2 of them for under 40$! A steal in my books! I def recommend stopping in to browse! read more

Customer service was awful. I'm sure I was the first people they came to pick up, this rude elder was rushing me. He told me to hurry because he had 40 other homes he had to visit.. he did not pick up everything as requested and rushed to give me the paper. He did not pick up the mirror saying it needed to go with the dresser, but you pick up a headboard. He did not pick up everything that I had listed all because he was in a hurry. I live here in Dallas and I'm in the area of Garland , and I am a disabled person who reached out for the very first time ever to the Garland Salvation Army and it's ran by Bernard Tolan who was very inappropriate by telling me about another woman who came in for assistance and Dafne Cisneros's who asked me all of my personal information from if I had a bank account to wanting to know my banking transactions for months that had absolutely nothing to do with the month I came to ask for assistance. Not to mention she had always stereotyped me before even knowing my situation. I reached out to several higher up persons after doing me research and found over a thousands donors who give freely and openly to Salvation Army and I'm curious to know if they know how people such as myself are being treated . I am a disabled woman not by my choice as well as a gunned down survivor and domestic violence survivor and never ever have I've reached out to Salvation Army until a few months ago , still not knowing or getting a decent response back . It's like I'm swept under the rug . Maxie DeBlanc , Captain Joe , Pamela Davis , Bernard Tolan , Dafne Cisneros , Joanna Henry , Sr. Manger , Amber Rosales ( Program Manager) as well as other. Major Dawn and Paul McFarland, Scotty Landry and Christina Cavalier still have not responded or return my email . So I wonder if this list of donors knows that Salvation Army is neglecting African Black disabled women of services . I wonder if Walmart , Big Lots , Albertsons , Google , Toyota , NFL Foundation, MAP international, Lily Endowment and their lists goes on knows how they are refusing disabled women of color and discriminating. The man who came to pick stuff up said the donations had to be itemized and was very rude and said if it did not sell in a garage sale it would not sell at there store and said I should reschedule another pick up. Great store to find great Deals, however Shady , aggressive Employees when dropping off Donations. The 1st time, the employee pocketed one on my donations right in front of me. The 2nd time, the employee said I needed to have my donations in a plastic bin because I had donated an hour early with two bins of items. I refused to and knew that was not a requirement. The employee made a big stink and literally came after me wanting to fight. I whipped out my phone and started recording him. I ask" do you want to loose his job today? I didn't think so , so I suggest u accept these items without a plastic expensive bin ( that I paid for) and continue working on your 12 step program at your half way house." I dropped the donations on the ground and drove off as he cursed me out. 3rd time, I was ripping the receipt and accidentally tore part of the yellow copy. Well the employee acted as if I committed a crime and got all into his feelings and raising his voice. I looked at him and said "really ...it's not that deep..jeeez. It's a mistake". Stop hiring these over emotional sensitive mychezzz to accept donations. In fact, it should be policy for them to not even engage with the public. Just accept the donation, and hand out the receipt. They always want to argue and escalate a simple process. I will be taking my donations to a non profit that actually appreciates it with less drama, and less emotional ayaaass grown men , single mom energy to deal with. read more

I love thrifting. And I especially love the Salvation Army because they always have so much furniture. At Salvation Army, they have a great pricing system on the furniture. Each furniture item has a date (that it was received) on the tag. If the item has been there 6 days it is 15% off. The longer it is there, the more the price goes down. Eventually, after 12 days, the price goes down by 25%. There was a piece (a vanity) that I had been watching for about a week and a half. It was a little too expensive, so I kept watching it and was going to by it on the 12th day for the sale price if it was still there. When I went on the 12th day, THE TAG DATE HAD BEEN CHANGED TO A DIFFERENT DATE. The tag indicated that the item had only been in the store for 3 days. I had been looking at the item for a week and a half, almost every day (the store is right by my work) so I was well aware of the original tag date. I was shocked, that Salvation Army (whose mission it is to "preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination") of all places, would be so shady and dishonest. I've both donated and shopped at this Salvation Army and can say that this is one of the best locations in Dallas. Their furniture section is pretty nice and the pieces on show are in good condition. The employees here are always helpful and you get greeted right when you step in. I wasn't able to find an outfit for the event I was going to but saw some pretty cool items in the back for house ware. I was even considering buying a large fabric ottoman that had such a neat print, it was only $40 and just needed a cleaning treatment. But the boyfriend rolled his eyes and kept pushing me towards the exit, he claims we don't have "enough space" for my projects. Hmp! As far as clothing goes, this location is a bit limited for both men and women but if you need items for your kitchen or basic furniture you may be pleasantly surprised here! read more

O.K. Normally, I review only restaurants, but recently, I've discovered the joys of thrift store shopping. It's kinda funny how I lived next door to a thrift store but I've NEVER went inside. I've donated stuff to places like Animal Rescue Club, Salvation Army, and Goodwill before, but you don't have to enter the store to donate stuff. All my friends and family turn their noses up at thrift stores. My father even said that used clothes carry diseases and my mom said that it's bad juju if you use stuff that belonged to someone who died. Everyone is just shocked that I actually went in. However, if you think about it, do you really know how many people and who has tried on the "new" clothes you buy at your local mall before you bought it? Also, if you own any antiques, the previous owner is probably dead, right? How do you know if that 18th century armoire has "bad juju" before you bought it? Just wash the clothing items before you wear it like you normally do and you'll be fine. I've scored some crazy amazing deal every time I walk into a thrift store, any thrift store! The Sal is no different. However, there's some stuff you should know about the Sal; 1. Know their sales. Call ahead and ask what sales and promotions they're having and on what days. Do this BEFORE you go. This is because the Sal is a bit higher priced than some other thrift stores, so you'll need the sales to make it worthwhile. For example, on different days, different colored tag items will be on sale. Clothes are 1/2 off on Wednesdays. 2. Regular clothes are about the same in price to other thrift stores. They have a larger selection of high end items than other thrift stores. However, the high end items will be higher priced than in other thrift stores. That's why you'll need to go when there's a sale. I saw half a dozen fur coats for $400 each. They're only worth $200 (you need to go during a 1/2 off sale). They have a LV purse and a couple of Coach's, etc. They have 10 times more suits than other thrift stores. They also have exotic skin boots. However, the LV purse was $225 but my ebay search shows that it was only worth less than $100 because it was a small, used LV purse in mediocre condition. 3. They have overpriced electronics and exercise equipment. The prices are more than that of new equipment on sale at department stores! 4. They have a decent collection of books and vinyl records (LP). I scored some vinyl for just $2 each! That's half the price of Half Price Books! (the HPB price tag was still attached). Conclusion: It is a very large thrift store and has SORTED merchandise, so they only have good stuff. I didn't see any clothes with holes in them or purses with broken shoulder straps, etc. They also have a lot of higher end items, but unless you are buying on sale, you're overpaying. I wouldn't recommend that you burn gas just to shop here, but if you're in the neighborhood, stop by for some fun shopping. read more

This shelter usually has room for women to stay. They have healthy meals. There are a lot of argumentative, drama queens who stay here. The staff yells and is really rude to intakes. My experience was constant sexual harassment name calling and public humiliation and told no service available. Many of the staff had previously broken into my home drugging me unconscious and sexual molestation and viewing. They planned for my second homelessness and caused it through public slander by blacks around town for a year and a half. The same thing happened at the shelter and of course there is no solution. The process is rigid with being yelled at to wake up, yelled at to get in a line, yelled at to line up, and clean up. The beds are clean, the mats are not as clean, and the bathrooms are usually a mess with bugs and trashed by intakes. Intakes are limited in where they can go to walk around and must always ask. I was in my bed for nearly 6 hours before bed most nights reading or waiting for dinnertime or bedtime. Many intakes just sleep the entire time. It is very discriminatory to blacks. They need to firmly not tolerate the types who come in there but they cater to them and throw out the ones who follow the rules. There is mandatory chapel time once a day from 7-8pm which is nice. It is not enforced so many are talking. It is nice this is planned for everyday. There also is a nice courtyard to sit in and take a break. I have stayed there 2 times, once for 1 month and another time for 1.5 months. The last time was really hard. I had donated a new queen sized bed shortly before coming there and was hated with sexual harassment the entire time, told I was not eligible for services, and the favor went to the black attitude black bullies. This is not a place for professionals. There have been some doctors and such who have stayed for whatever reason "undercover" acting weird like they have a mental illness, just to scare off these bully types. There are not resources for people staying there. There is a program some are eligible for but you have to qualify by drug addiction, mental illness, or medical etc. People are unkind and there needs to be turnover by almost the entire staff. read more

I know some people may be annoyed at the constant bombardment of Salvation Army's ringing bells at store entrances once the Christmas holiday nears, but that donated change goes along way. I came up here for a class field trip recently to hear exactly what they do and how they help our communities and I think that every city needs one. I'm not a church goer anymore, but primarily SA is a church that does the most that they can possibly do to help others in need. Not to condescend on other churches, but in regards to their size worldwide and their contribution of innovative solutions for social problems, I feel like they leave the greatest impact. Most of us probably know that they help the poor get back on their feet, but they also help drug addicts recover from their vice to again become productive citizens in our community, they provide disaster relief, and finally they provide help and shelter victims of domestic violence. With having these multiple programs they need all they can get! If you can, you can donate your change, goods (non-perishable foods, clothing, furniture, toys), your professional skills (I think I heard they they were looking for an accountant?) and your time. I've been here multiple previous times with different groups to help out in their kitchen. They feed a bunch of mouths here daily so I helped with preparing and serving food in their kitchen. This is just one of the many things you can contribute to helping our society and it's also a great group/solo community service event! read more

I tried donating several large pieces of furniture recently and they sent out a driver and helper to pick it up. The driver looked homeless and the helper looked like a gang member. They were very rude and acted like they were doing me a favor rather than thanking me for my donation. One chair, which was only about 2 years old and in great condition, had a very small hole in the covering...on the bottom of the chair, completely out of view. It was about 1/8" in diameter and was not spreading. They would not take one chair because they said it was in too poor of condition to sell. I didn't realize the condition had to be practically 'new' or they're not interested. That's so ridiculous! I called the office to ask about that policy and the manager I spoke to was completely indifferent. He gave me the feeling that they didn't care if I donated anything to them anyway. I brought the chairs to Goodwill and they accepted them with a smile. I'm not going to donate anything else to the Salvation Army. It's obviously very poorly operated, at least locally. read more

This location at times can be really overwhelming. They have a great selection on couches and what not but the prices can often be on the high side. I have found some interesting books or small items that are reasonably priced. The store has various days where certain stickers are half price. My last visit I was able to score a nike golf shirt for around $7 and a chelsea soccer jersey for $4. I have found some name brand items but you really do need some patience because the items are sorted by color and not by size. I mean they are for mens clothes. read more

I visited this location on a Wednesday when they had their 50% all clothing special. I was treating myself to a shopping spree and my birthday just happened to fall on a Wednesday. Coincidence? I think not! I'll give this place 3.5 stars. Prices were great with the discount I got, but some of the clothing I wound up buying I wouldn't have paid full price for. With that being said, I think this place rocks if you go on Wednesday. It was pretty crowded and I had to wait for a dressing room, but the wait was short - about 5 minutes. I saw lots of furniture and glanced at some of the prices. Some stuff I thought was reasonably priced while others I thought were priced too high. Housewares I skipped over, but there was an entire separate section housing dishes and such - looked like quite a selection One MAJOR pet peeve of mine is that the price tags are DOUBLE stapled on to the clothing. When I was (very carefully) trying to remove tags after bringing my clothes home I wound up creating a hole in the fabric of a cotton t-shirt I had purchased. Thankfully, it was just a t-shirt and not one of the nicer pieces I had gotten, but I was still a little ticked. read more

Don't trust the online donation pick-up service to come through!!! Pick-up service would have gotten no stars if possible. I scheduled an online pick-up a week ago for a large desk and was very detailed in my description. I included my phone number to contact me as well. After I cleared my schedule as much as possible for the entire day, the online service the morning of told me that my window was 1-4pm. Better. So, to follow up, I called dispatch at 2:30 to check in and let them know I was here and still waiting. After holding for 15 minutes, the dispatcher found my order, read it, said he would call me back with the driver's location in a few minutes since his computer was slow. He assured me the driver would arrive. I never received a call back. Canceled my daughter's gymnastics lesson (4 pm, $20 non-refundable) at 3:45. At 3:55, a very nice driver pulled up, took one look at the large desk, then told me that they didn't pick up desks anymore. Really? No one called me in the week they had the online request, the dispatcher didn't mention that on the phone at 2:30, the website actually listed desks as an item they accepted, the driver didn't think to call me earlier in the day although he had a print-out with the description of the desk and my phone number. Out a day of my life and $20 for this mistake. I asked the driver for his manager's number and spoke with the manager who couldn't really care less. I am not an impolite person, but it was pretty difficult to keep my temper. Seriously. Movers coming tomorrow and one big desk on the curb free to anyone who wants it... read more

No star for Salvation Army or should i say Army of lazy save us, no good expierence at all, first thing the guy couldn't find my place so i gave him some directions he was rude over the phone, and when they arrived they told me that they would not go to a 3rd floor to get the couple of things that i was domating, so i said you can go i guess i'll take care of it by my self, with a broken ankle i brough down the couple of chairs and some other minor thing and put it by the dumpters and in 10 minutes they were gone, someone was picked them up fast. I love coming here to drop off donations! The people that work here are very friendly and you just pull your car forward and they collect your donations! Other locations I've tried to donate to do not have any obvious drop of location at all! Just pull up here, they greet you, grab your donations from your car, and give you a receipt if you want. I am being bullied,abused,black balled and racially profiled. I have been homeless for 8 months. I finally came up on the Rapid Rehousing list through Salvation Army. However, Andrew the case working for the homeless Esg grant was rude, bullying, and condescending. He wanted me to beg him to do the intake. He was abusing his power because I was asking questions about the program he seemed very prejudice against me my situation. Mark Sliter and Amber Rosolis also are strong arming me and intentionally not allowing me to do the intake for the intake I came up for. If I freeze in this upcoming storm I begged for help and was denied saying I didn't qualify to have any stability. Please somebody help me I tired,wary,cold and mentally overwhelmed. I'm battling thoughts of suicide and I told Mark Sliter this and Amber. They said let them talk to their supervisor to no avail. I tried to call Sarah Masih she will not answer and they want give me her email to inform her of this discrimination I'm enduring. read more

VOLUNTEERING - This review is for the main warehouse on Harry Hines, next to Strokers. Couldn't find it to check in. Volunteered time there today to sort gifts for the angels. Awesome experience, a few hours made a lot of difference. So many angels and families in need at this time of year. Makes me ashamed I don't volunteer more often, throughout the year. Not sure of morning procedure, but for afternoon, you show up by noon - (they feed you!) - show you a video explaining what you will be doing - you work for about 3 hours and it's amazing what can be accomplished. One of my favorite thrift stores of all time. The staff is always wonderful, kind, and hard working.

I volunteered in the kitchen for Sunday dinner yesterday and loved it. So easy to get in, get your bearings, and get going. Absolutely everyone was friendly. We served dinner for nearly 2 hours straight for the men (women/children were in another area), and others informed me that this was a "light crowd." I am so grateful that organizations like this one exists so that people in need don't have to go hungry. There's also housing onsite for both men and women/children. I am heartbroken! This was a fabulous place to find great clothes and things until recently. Must have gotten a new manager! The prices are now 3 times what they were. The little boutique is gone. The store looks like Goodwill now including the ridiculous pricing. No character. If you can find your size it is a miracle. I loved this store until several months ago. And I must not be the only one sick to see the changes. This store used to be packed with customers every hour of the day. When I came in today I saw most people leaving empty handed. This Salvation Army had a floor mat for sleep! The staff was nice...some with attitude! They don't like questions! There will always be question..that s how you learn! Meals are good! As a veteran I didn' t see any difference everyone treated equal. You are allowed to leave early morning. Don t come back until 3 unless u have medical condition! When you stay..it means you are held upstairs. Kinda like a prisoner..SA needs to lose the prisoner mentality! Showers are some clean..key is to catch the shower right after cleaning .. afternoon after lunch! Clean up what you mess up!!! The people in the fishbowl like you to shut up ask no question,. Yes everything is organized and easy to locate. There are many "mini shops" within this location. It is the largest in the DFW area I believe. I give it 2 stars only because when I thrift shop I love rummaging through the items myself and finding vintage items. The idea of having "boutique" items sorted out and sectioned off may be the ideal way to thrift shop for some, but the thrill in thrifting for me is to reach the bottom of the bin I'm digging through and pulling out an awesome find. read more
