I needed to get rid of some large furniture- a china cabinet, a dresser and a couple of other items. When they questioned me online about what I needed to get rid of, one of the items I had was a large gun ( rifle) cabinet which I put down as needing to go. The person from Salvation Army told me the date and time when they would pick the gun cabinet and other things up. When the guys showed up to get the items- they stated they would not take the rifle cabinet- which I wish they told me when they called a couple of days before. Also, I have a china cabinet, which they wouldn't take, either. I guess china cabinets are out dated these days- no one wants them. The point Im making is if they didn't want the items I had to give them, they should have let me know. They're pretty choosy about what they'll take and what they won't take. read more

I thrift all the time and I've never had issues like at this location. The employees act unethically at the register frequently and there's no way to track how much they are ringing each item up for until you get your receipt. They lie, manipulate pricing, and refuse to acknowledge the fraud when you're standing there with your receipt and the item able to prove it. I feel sure I am not the only one experiencing this. I have been in here many times looking for things, and just about every time I walk out of the store with something in my hands... just not usually what I went in looking for! You never know what you are going to find in there! Yes, there are things that they will not take as donations... if you ever go on one of their days when they open the back warehouse for you to dig through stuff, you will understand why they have started getting picky about what they take in. The clothing alone (bales upon bales are stacked to the roof of the warehouse in back!) that they receive pretty much requires that they have to start getting choosy about what they take. read more

We went here a few days ago and bought some shirts from the t-shirt area and they were $3. Today we went and had two shirt from the same isle and they rang up for $5 each. When we told her these were from the same area and obviously not a blouse, she argued with us and said that's the price. They are tshirts! We wouldn't have purchased those for $5 each. We can get a lot better at Outreach for half the price. We wont be back. Your staff is rude and trying to rip people off. You would be better asking me for a donation and I would have been happy to round up! read more

I used to love Salvation Thrift until it got a makeover and upped their prices in the past year. The place is in between Ward's and Big Lots. It is in a dusty parking lot and parking is always always scarce. I used to come here and get the coolest items for 25-50 cents. Now, their coats are near $20, computer monitors from 1995 are $16, old DVDs are $3. That's just too much for what is basically trash. The only good thing I've ever bought from here was an old pharmacy bottle for 59 cents. Everything else is stuff I just basically throw out a few months later. The people who work here are awesome, though, very courteous, and the rating has nothing to do with them. read more

Just like every thrift store, you really have to dig to uncover the great finds. I have definitely found some great clothes, plates, mugs, frames, etc. here. They also have the cheapest prices of any other thrift store I've seen. The only downside is that it doesn't seem like they get much new inventory very often. So, I would space out the visits. Other than that, it's my favorite thrift store in Gainesville. One last thing: the store is very clean and spacious. It doesn't feel stuffy or cluttered at all. read more

The Salvation Army is a terrible "charity" to begin with. We were looking to donate and I checked with the very nice and friendly cashier in the store and he indicated we wouldn't have any issues. We ran home to get our items and returned and pulled around to the donation center. The donation guy then tells me he won't take our donations. What a joke! read more

Great place to pick up deals, especially on furniture. There are other thrift stores around town where you might get a better deal on clothes (such as the Outreach store next door), but they do not carry large items. Over the years I have bought a dresser from them for $20 (which I sold years later for $50), large bookcases for $25 each, iron patio furniture at $10 per piece, very nice solid wood desk for $35, etc. Also, you can usually buy something at discount. They frequently have 50% on certain items each day, plus one of the local discount/coupon magazines around town always has 50% coupons for the Salvation Army. The only areas for improvement I can see are: not a lot of parking and sometimes not enough people working the cash registers. You might have to wait 10-15 minutes to check out. read more

This used to be the very best thrift store in Gainesville Fl. I have been shopping and donating goods there for over 10 years, A recent change in management started 1 oct 2016 and most prices increased from 100 too 500 percent.The new management does not have a clue what people want and need.I know over 100 people who used to shop there and never even look there any more and like me they take there donations elsewhere because they are never put on the floor for sale .A great loss to the community who needs help and used to shop there, read more

They finally have new management. I have met them and they are just what this store needs. As a regular customer (once or twice a week), I can see a big difference. Prices are great for me...a DVD for a dollar twentynine. I bought a couple of pieces of furnitre for nineteen dollars that are very good quality. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with everything. They could use a new parking lot, but they make up for it with good customer service. It seems like they have a new staff who are really helpful. I give them a good passing score only because the store is the best its been stocked in the last 2-years, really happy with that and I'm a big fan of their mission in our community. read more

Recently remodeled and very well done I might add. So far, this is the most stocked thrift store in town and from what I can tell, the prices are a little lower on most things. The furniture selection is amazing and not at all expected. I have only good things to say about the store. The staff have been very helpful and have been very nice. This store is so filthy behind closed doors. Completely infested with bed bugs and have been for a very long time along with other pests, rodents and reptiles. An employee I knew quit because the hire ups wouldn't do anything about the infestation. My friend found a lot of what they did was so immoral. They sold customers infested furniture and clothing. Not to mention the clothing that was infested in the warehouse was stil sent out to clothing recycling companies and organizations that sent the clothing oversees to third world countries. The Salvation Army should have burned them and called a specialist to handle the parasites. Instead they just called their normal pest control person to spray the baseboards. OSHA was even informed and one of the hire ups lied to them and his own bosses. This post doesn't speak for all the Salvation Army locations only the Gainesville location.
