The Long Version: Elsie's used to be in one of those colourful row homes along Queen St (it was at 1530 Queen St). That location was on multiple levels and was incredibly cramped. It had a bohemian feel and reminded me of all the vintage shops in Kensington Market (in Toronto) circa 1990s. I would go to that location every time I visited Halifax. On my most recent visit in September 2024, I went there to see the store was closed and all the colourful row homes along there had signs in the window warning of asbestos and only authorized personnel were allowed to enter. It looked like they were going to tear the buildings down for redevelopment. I was so disappointed, and took out my trusted phone to see when they closed. To my delight, I discovered they reopened on Grafton St and I immediately headed over. Their new location is inside the building that used to be St. Mary's School for Boys. It's much larger so the shop is actually spacious now and not cramped at all. The feel now is more contemporary consignment shop, similar to the ones in Westboro (in Ottawa) of the 2010s to present day. They have luxury brands now. I saw a Chanel purse for close to 10K. They had Gucci too. However, they have more accessible brands in the $40 range as well. I spoke with staff there and they told me they moved to this new location in April 2024. Upon stepping into Elsie's was like going into another world...brilliant silk scarves billowing in the breeze, a gorgeous array of colors, eye catching shoes including John Fluevog and Louboutin, and an eclectic mix of jewelry. Vintage mixed with modern, many clothes new with tags and lots of designer pieces including Hermès. Incredibly soft cashmere sweaters. Elsie's has something for everyone and is a treasure in Halifax. Google street view it and see it is not even remotely close to the same location. Those here talking about how great it is to be in are not being honest and using reposts of the store front kind of shows anyone whos been here they're false reviews. Don't know why they're using false information here. You need to know the location has a store and has things in it, but by NO means is it anything like what you're told here. MY personal experiences are that its selection is sparce and cramped but it is still a used item store and might have what you need.

At least that was my first experience and also they hold items for you after payment to come get later which helped me when it didn't fit in the car that day- However some employees need to relax as last time I was there to pick up my purchase, I thought I'd go back in the store first to look around and did find some deals for decor but I didn't realize when I went to self checkout with three frames that only 1 went through By then I had just gotten off work tired and just wanted to go home plus I wasn't paying attention to the beeps and just paid and went to leave- I dropped a frame accidentally on my was out and a employee was great to ask if it was ok and then was eirther going to help me fix the broken frame or refund me - so I went to go to his register and this other older female employee yelled oh that wasn't payed for abd proceeded to ask me the amount of it and then yelled to - only right beside her- that I didn't ring it in like I was some criminal- I know you need to make your money and it was my mistake but wow I didn't enjoy her attitude and I just said oh ok- can you help me ring it in so I can pay- and she's just standing there beside me mumbling- I'm like uh it was an accident considering I paid for the other item in my hand but the frame was not salvageable anyway unfortunately but dam lady next time chill it can be resolved- Probly won't be back there because of that -

They do have a mix of business attire, athletic wear and a few more formal pieces. Prices aren't bargain basement, but not too outrageous. I always pop by when I'm in Halifax. Another item was a lambskin jacket, bought on impulse and never worn, which cost me $1100 (yes, expensive impulse). She resold it for about $125. I felt like I had been robbed and when I expressed my feelings, she offered me $100- to spend in her store, not to redress my loss. I will never shop there again. Try Elsie's or Room 152 in Dartmouth but avoid this one. Owner Stacey is rude and defensive, has no idea about quality of clothing except for labels, and you will never get the percentage promised.

Frenchy's This…read morelittle gem of a location was told to me by my hairdresser when I asked where she got her slamming purse. She told me Frenchy's $30 bucks. Well you know I was going to check that out. Normally I do not like Frenchy's stores as I really don't like going through tables of cloths. She told me that this really not like that they actually have new items, tag's on as well used. Well off I go right after I get my hair done and to my surprise I see racks of cloths along the sides, off I go. As well there are table of boots still with the tags on for like under $15 bucks nice ones. Purses displayed at the front counter, some of the names are coach as well as XO and reasonable prices. Wallets and even some jewelry. This is a must for all you that love to shop. Big bang for your buck.

Eclectic musings come together to form Lost & Found's fashionably homemade North End boutique . The shop's mood is quiet and thoughtful, just as its clothes. Music is easy, and the store keeper sews away in a corner wooden chair. Piecing through the assorted racks, I become awe struck by the profuse selection of gorgeous things. Most times I am able to edit down final selections before the efforts of the fitting room; however, this was not the case. The clothing variety is of impeccable taste, as every item on display is hand picked, and/or altered with special detailing. And with such reasonable pricing-- it all seems too good to be true. (A large rack dedicated to post-season sales provides some gorgeous steals!) Clothing is displayed on thick wooden hangers, and well managed framework; the result is chic and polished confines. Divorce Records is an added bonus to the Lost & Found experience. Peek through this Halifax based label's selection for some stellar anti-industry music variety. With its subtle alterations-- front & back scoop neck with buttons, and adorable mini-shoulder pads + ruching-- its a dream piece. And only $18! The detailing of selections make for cool fits and one of a kind pieces. Lost & Found offers a creative and inspiring shopping experience, indeed. The cashier was super personable and nice, and while the store does have small stock, I would absolutely visit again just to see what's new. I almost crashed my car when I first saw the sign, I couldn't believe my eyes…read more Not a great stretch of road to pull a u-turn on, but it was done and I'm beyond excited that BfM is here in NS. I have been to several Ontario locations, everywhere from Barrie to Toronto to Bowmanville. The stores are always well-stocked, clean, and 100% volunteer-run (Read: sweet little old ladies and GREAT vintage finds). They don't have great hours, but again, volunteer run, and now that they're open late Thursdays (and Fridays in December!), I'm okay with them opening at 10AM. There is a whole small corner of the store dedicated to golf items, if you're into that sort of thing. They have a TON of books, and a lot of textiles, sheets, table cloths, etc, etc. I always find their small appliances, kitchen items and art to be the best parts of the store (for me). The clothing selection is surprisingly modern mixed with grandmas favourites.
