A friend of mine is opening a small artisan consignment shop, and we were able to find amazing store displays--stand shelving, a bench, and several other pieces that helped create the perfect rustic yet chic, neutral look she was going for. The staff and volunteers were incredibly pleasant, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. Parking is free, and I highly recommend going early during the weekday to make it easier to find a spot and less crowed. This place truly carries everything you could need for your home--sofas, bedroom and office furniture, bathroom items (from sinks to toilets), pots, home décor, light fixtures, shelving... you name it, they likely have it. They are constantly receiving new donations, so you never know what you'll find on a daily or weekly basis. Every time we thought we had found everything we needed, we decided to take one more look--and each time, we discovered even more great items. On top of that, it feels especially good knowing that your purchases support such a meaningful and worthwhile organization. If you have furniture or home items to donate, this is absolutely a place to bring them. I will definitely be back and highly recommend stopping in--you never know what treasures you'll find!

I didn't find what I needed but got tons of help from the staff as I looked. They even lent me their tape measure since I had forgotten mine. Employee Jenn greeted me with freshly popped popcorn since they just celebrated their grand opening. My favorite! I always find something. Sometimes it's in clothing, sometimes pursues, sometimes…read morehousewares or decor, sometimes books, but I never leave without finding a good deal. You might have to dig through somethings, but it's not too bad. The place is well kept and the people who manage it (I think they are all volunteers from the church?) work hard to keep the place in order. There is flow to the merchandise, with areas broken up by department. New donations are coming in on a regular basis. Every time I go, which is often, I see new donations being dropped off or being sorted and priced. The staff/volunteers are always so pleasant. It's a pleasure to shop here. It's never too crowded with customers, but there is regular customer traffic that keeps the store moderately busy. Prices are fair and around Christmas, they set up a room with Christmas specific/inspired merchandise. Kudos to Red Door!

But what I like about this thrift store is that you can still get your junkin' on. Like they say- "one person's trash is another person's treasure". I didn't come across a blue door- but from what it looks like, Blue Door Thrift Shop has 2 entrances with one of them being right by their parking lot around the corner. Actually I saw a blue door.... inside (@~_@~). Racks are neat, glass display cases hold costume jewelry and there's one fitting room about the size of a child's arm span. In addition to the thrift store part, there's also an indoor "flea market" in an adjoining room with "vendors" selling fabric and more knick-knacks. All in all I like my funky finds plus Blue Door's price point means you can buy a few pieces and not break the bank. I got to wet my toes- so until next time.

Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County ReHouse sells a wide variety of quality used building materials. Despite the smaller selection, the furniture pieces appeared to all be high quality and of good value. Their products ranged from antique to modern and from basic to "top of the line."  They are much less expensive than new, sometimes very unique, and always good for the environment. They would pick up resellable items, so please call them before one puts any furniture out for the trash. They do great things for the community as a nonprofit and try to support their cause if one can.

Lady was at the door, I am assuming she was the owner and said they were closed and to give her a few minutes. We give her about 15 minutes, we waited in the vestibule that is connected to the place. When we came back she let us in and said that they had a party last night so we might have to step over some things... partial understatement. She directs us to a white door and says that it goes all the way down. Found along the trail of stuff some cool converse...$30 -couple bucks more and I can go to DSW and get them brand new. Walking down the aisle (hallway) there's a dark room, intrigued and hoping to find some huge room, I search for the lights. Find 2 of the 3 without getting electrocuted. This room is the size of my living room and stuff is everywhere. If there is a secret lair of furniture somewhere, the lady was uninterested in us finding it. She was too busy cleaning up the party from last night... none of it made sense. It was pretty grungy in there all around, I can't imagine having a party there either. Probably will never go there again. The furniture pictures were a bit taunting. :( so damn disappointed.

The full job would have been $400 for about 15 minutes of labor. When I objected, the work was already partially done, which is exactly how this pricing model works: by the time you understand what you're being charged, items are already at the road and you're negotiating from a losing position. Here's what I want every potential customer to understand: their pricing is based on volume, not effort. A bulky item that could be dismantled into a small pile in five minutes gets billed as a full bulky item. Dismantling furniture is trivial for a company that does this all day -- but they will not volunteer to do it, because bulk is how they charge you more. Before you book them or anyone like them: Ask if any item can be dismantled -- then do it yourself first. A disassembled bed frame or desk costs a fraction of an intact one. Get the total price in writing before a single item is touched. Do not let work begin on a verbal ballpark. Get quotes from 1-800-GOT-JUNK, local independent haulers, or your town's bulk pickup -- many municipalities take furniture at the curb for free or a small fee. I later called to discuss the charge and never received a call back, which tells you how much they value customers after the credit card clears. $265 for 10 minutes. Do the math on that hourly rate and decide for yourself.
