My husband and I stayed one Saturday evening while traveling Scotland on our Honeymoon. We had…read moreoriginally reserved (and paid for) a room at a different B&B down the road but after driving past it we decided it seemed a little suspect and proceeded into Dornie in hopes of finding another place for the night. And we did - The Old Police House! It is a charming little blue home with a small "Old Police House" sign attached by the front door. After inquiring about a room and learning of its availability we were led upstairs to our bedroom and en-suite. (As it turns out this little Inn only has one room available to rent, so once that room is booked there is no more to go around.) The room itself was more than satisfactory and had a comfortable Queen sized bed with plenty of magazines, books, and local menus available. There was a window which fully opened and overlooks the river and allows for a nice cool breeze if you enjoy that. There was also a personal heater within the room. The room also provides you with ample closet space and a luggage stand. The en-suite was spacious and very clean with a walk-in shower, toilet and sink/mirror combination. Breakfast was included in the tariff and was super delicious and made by the lady of the home. The night prior you will be asked at what time you'd prefer your meal served and the next morning you'll dine in the private living room. All-in-all way more than we expected and could hope for. Privacy, cleanliness, a comfortable bed and a wonderful host.

B&B main judgement bar for me? Tea and coffee facilities. Great, with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, all clean, bathroom is lovely and modern, excellent shower, fluffy, nice smelling bath robes (great after you've been a tit and just thrown yourself in the fairy pools in the autumn rain). Big, gentlemen style, green leather sofas to cosy up on in the lounge area with a night cap, super comfy beds, all well equipped and well kept. On top of the breakfast view, the food is great. I had the Blairdhu Cairn, black pudding and poached egg balanced on top of tatty scone. Fruit, yoghurts, cake, cereals and your standard fare to help yourself to too, with nice jams and marmalades as well. There are tellies in the room and in the room for breakfast with the news on, free wifi, and ample parking. I intend to go to skye again soon, because I love it, and I want to see the dinosaur footprints they discovered, practically immediately after we got back, and I would happily stay here again when I do.

The property has 6 rooms and is situated on a large elevated spacious lot with plenty of parking and free Wi-Fi. Guests enjoy a gorgeous view from the guest lounge/breakfast room and from some guest rooms. The double room was nicely decorated, it had a large comfortable bed with reading lights on either side and a duvet with high-quality linens. Amenities included robes (aka dressing gowns), hair dryer, in-room tea and flat screen TV. The modern bathroom featured a stall shower (with plenty of hot water) fluffy towels, shampoo/bath gel and a vanity with space for your toiletries. Our room did not have a view but was quiet and private, the large window faced the side garden. The breakfast options include a full Scottish breakfast as well as many other healthy choices to suit all tastes, service was friendly and efficient. Our host Fiona was helpful and welcoming. She accepts cash or credit card (with a small additional fee of ~3%).

The…read morehouse rules were odd and overly strict, but the worst part by far was the shower situation. The water would either come out scalding hot or freezing cold -- no in-between -- and trying to adjust it could easily burn you. It took a long time to get a manager involved, and when she finally arrived, she was incredibly dismissive. Instead of helping, she blamed us for "not knowing how to use Scottish showers," which made no sense -- we had just stayed at a nearby hotel with no issues. She then proceeded to lecture us and insisted that *everyone* should be comfortable with the preset water temperature *she* had chosen for the entire motel. Totally unacceptable. Not worth the money or stress. -

In order to keep it as new, the manager welcomes you with a lot of rules. In addition to a surveillance camera that reacts with a motion detector - i.e. is always switched on - you are filmed every time you enter and exit the main door the main . The rooms are tiny and low. The two attic rooms are not recommended for people taller than 165 cm. In addition, it is extremely warm in the upper rooms, which was mentioned as a precautionary measure and is to be accepted. You are not allowed to wear shoes in the house, you cannot eat anything warm in your room, the breakfast offer is extremely limited and you are watched by the manager while you are having breakfast, which creates an extremely unpleasant atmosphere. Smoking is only allowed in the parking lot opposite. There was no hot water the first night but was then fixed. So unfortunately a disappointment.
