Cafe Lephin - Spiced Cauliflower Soup and Cheese Scone

We loved Cafe Lephin. We were brought here as a lunch spot on a full-day tour of Skye, so we…read moretechnically didn't choose it, but were very happy with everything about it. They've got a full coffee bar, amazing baked goods, and good options for vegetarians too! I had the cheese scone and soup combo. The soup is always vegan, and in this case it was an extraordinarily delicious spiced cauliflower soup. It had an Indian flair about it, and it was a lovely alternative to the tomato-based soups I'd seen at so many other restaurants during our time in Scotland. The cheese scone deserves its reputation as famous or at least fantastic...it truly was yummy! My wife had the Caprese sandwich with pesto, which came with a couscous salad. The sandwich tasted and she really liked it. I had a Cortado from the coffee bar too, which looked beautiful (nice latte art, Lephin staff!) and tasted strong as I needed it to be, especially on this cold and rainy Skye day. If I lived on the Isle of Skye (which is a lovely dream) I would live at Cafe Lephin...I'd prop myself down next to their fabulous-looking pastries, and probably never leave.

They also have gluten free panini bread and a few cakes. All of which was good. The view is splendid and they have a lovely bird feeder always full of birds. We each had a soup and a panini and that was the perfect amount!

What an ignorant and arrogant pig the guy that owns this is. I arrived in a group of five and…read morecommitted the sun of leaving the outside door open to allow the fifth member of our group to come in from the car park. As we walked across the cafe floor, the owner shouted at us (in front of other customers), "WHICH ONE OF YOU IS CALLED JESUS?" sarcastically referring to the door being open. When I explained that there was a fifth person coming in, no apology was made by this idiot. Not content with his initial attempts to alienate his customers I then discovered after we left that he'd asked another member of our group (who went to the till to pay), if "JESUS WAS STILL UPSET?" And people wonder why their businesses don't flourish? I can't say I was surprised to find other reviews on here describing the owner as having an 'attitude'; the fact of the matter is, he does. I suspect that, even if he saw this review, his arrogance would prevent him from taking anything onboard about how to speak to customers so I hope that this post serves a purpose by maybe encouraging people to try elsewhere and give their money to other nearby cafes that are more deserving of their custom.
