This practitioner goes to…read moreEXTREME lengths to collect background information but made little to no connection to very real underlying issues that my husband and I disclosed before our first couples meeting. Did she even read everything we had been asked to provide?? In our two sessions, Ms. Katon revealed a defensive attitude, impatience, and offered no demonstration of compassion. We were also taken aback by inappropriate offhand remarks (laughingly suggesting, for example, that we "go home and have make-up sex" as we were leaving our first session -- where "sex" had not even been mentioned!! Really?!) Such a loaded comment could throw a grenade into many relationships; couples seeking help from a "professional" while struggling to move forward. This is one example of inappropriate "treatment" with little to no genuine understanding of how vulnerable new clients can be when seeking therapeutic assistance. After two sessions (we did not return) it became clear that this practitioner has real and present issues of her own to resolve. If you do move in her direction for therapy, proceed with caution, know that she is direct to a fault (insensitive), and watch for other red flags -- of which there are many.

If she had taken the time to talk with me, or made me feel like I could ask her questions without annoying her and wasting her time, this could have been avoided. Her dismissive attitude was fairly common. She seemed like she wanted to move me through as fast as possible, either by throwing medicine at me, dismissing my concerns, or sending me to another doctor. I stopped going to her, and do not recommend her. I just felt dumb every time I saw her, like I was being a burden. Hopefully there are better doctors out there...

A therapist, especially a trauma therapist, should never lose her temper and exclaim "JESUS…read moreCHRIST!" in frustration when a client is unable to move beyond an upsetting issue fast enough for the therapist, but she did. This is an example of how her own feelings and needs negatively impacted our therapy at times. While expressing displeasure about being called between sessions she asked with an irritated tone, "When did I say you could call me during a crisis?!" I have never called my current therapist between sessions, but I know that I could if I needed to and she would respond with concern and kindness. I would advise against choosing Megan Cler/Megan Wagoner as your therapist if you have trauma history even though she states that this is her specialty. She lacks experience and skill. She never really connected with me. She often seemed distracted, distant, easily frustrated, and unsure of herself as a psychologist. Our therapy never felt like a partnership. Instead it felt like there was always a power struggle between us and we were never able to move beyond it. It often felt like she needed to be in charge. So much so that she even had a rule that I could not open her office door--Only she was allowed to touch the doorknob. I often felt misunderstood and worried that she was annoyed and/or frustrated with me. I would leave therapy upset and worry about HER thoughts and feelings until the next week. She discussed my therapy and private information with other therapists without my knowledge or approval and when I expressed my feelings about this, she said, "I'm sorry you don't understand how therapy works." When I asked why, she said "Because you're complex." Maybe so, but I would have at least liked to know this was going to happen before it did, even if it's common practice. She made some decisions that were negligent and harmful to me. My former therapist in another city suggested I file a complaint against her and was even thinking of doing it herself. I've never felt so misunderstood, unheard, uncared for, shamed, disregarded, and genuinely disliked by a therapist before or since. I blamed myself for our failed therapeutic alliance for the six months that I saw Megan until I started seeing a new therapist and didn't have any of these issues. I didn't have any of these issues with my therapist prior to Megan, either. I've been seeing a new therapist for 3 months and she is wonderful. We don't have ANY of the issues Megan and I had. Perhaps Megan just didn't like or care about me as a person. Not everyone will click, but she should have ended things immediately if this were the case. Perhaps she just couldn't deal with my complicated trauma history or perhaps what seemed like a difficult pregnancy made her incapable of being a functional therapist for me. Who knows. But both my current and former therapists believe some of her actions were unethical and harmful. I'm sure she's a good person outside of my therapy and I'm sad about the whole thing, but my therapy with Megan only brought more stress and dysfunction into my life. Updated to add: Going through my reviews and rereading this one, I am so very glad I no longer see Megan. I've been with my current therapist for a year and a half now, and she's wonderful. She's helped me a great deal and we've never had any of the issues Megan and I had. I guess it goes to show you that just because someone has a PsyD doesn't mean they are skilled at what they do. I'm sure Megan is a wonderful person, but she was such a terrible therapist for me.

Her advice was not very helpful, she offered very little assistance, she did not seem to truly care about my best interests, and even put me in a certain amount of danger. For example, when I asked her for help concerning communication issues with my grandmother, her reply was simply, "Whats your rush?!" She offered no other advice and I never resumed contact with my grandmother. A few years later, my grandmother died and essentially disinherited me. That cost me tens of thousands of dollars. Bev also never bothered to inform me directly when someone was slandering me with very serious, malicious accusations. Instead, she asked me a series of potentially injurious questions in a manner designed to fish for anything to strengthen the other side's case -- as if there was no possibility that I could have been completely innocent (and was). After that I realized that she could not be trusted.

She keeps having everyone's negative reviews removed. Some of us women have talked to each other. These are normal, trustworthy people, members of my community who are well-respected, having very similar horrific experiences with her. She makes it easy for the abuser to schedule with her, while lying to the abused, lots of rescheduling and canceling, even without notice, and gaslighting, claiming appointments scheduled in writing were never scheduled, even when there are several written confirmations. She then uses her assistant as an excuse and curtain to hide behind and reports that the abuser is participating and the victim isn't. Her input about co-parenting communication is confusing, aggressive, time-draining, irrelevant, worsens communication significantly, and she contradicts herself frequently. She carelessly forgets who her clients are and then hides that by verbally attacking. She teaches incredibly controlling and damaging men how to hide behind tricky language, while forbidding their victims of using many words and speaking of many actions that have occurred. Basically she becomes a teammate in the abuse. She increases her role with recommendations (that you will become afraid to refuse) to add more and more family members, groups, one-on-one appointments, etc, and uses changing contracts on her portal, that are considered signed once opened, to trap victims more and more. She used psychological tactics like disarming, followed by suddenly several rapid-fire attacks, followed by questions about my finances to plot what she could take from my family in a very vulnerable time. It was clear she was plotting how to move towards forcing reunification camps for my children, as she has done to others, and she kept saying things that never happened and had nothing to do with our situation, more and more, trying to force a bizarre narrative. It's extremely rare to meet a person this controlling, calculated and deceitful, and willing to destroy innocent people's lives for power and financial incentive. There is no care or humanity to be found here. Run!
