We went to the Ship Inn for a meal on a Friday Night,
The atmosphere was mixed, it was intimate and quiet initially but then it became very noisy and raucous.
Service we were served by a Lady who we thought was the owner, who took our orders. We were surprised when told that the Chef wouldn't deviate from the recipe as stated we only asked for plain gravy and no shallots with a steak and kidney pudding, very easy to change as they are put on afterwards. Other than that the service was brilliant, although we were served by the Chef at one point a very nice lady, and also a young lad served us our drinks.
The food Very very large steak and kidney pudding,
Chips were very run of the mill and the Veg was adequate but would have been better if there was more of it as it was shared between 5 people.
The other dishes ordered were Steak and Ale Pie which looked pretty good, no gristle. A fish and chips which looked nice and a steak which looked very nice. The starters were very large I had goats cheese which was nice but not enough bread.
As stated the atmosphere was mixed, which can't be helped, the prices were very high, and our bill was initially sent out with mistakes in it,
the biggest gripe was at the prices charged the crockery was not very smart and didn't match, and the cutlery was more akin to a transport cafe, not a smart worcestershire pub/restaurant. If there was some flexibility on the menu and the Crockery and Cutlery brought up to the standard of the food and portions slightly reduced on heavy food like suet then this place would be looking at critical acclaim outside the local area. The atmosphere could be maintained by putting a simple screen across the dedicated dining area to keep the pub identity separate. But all in all quite a nice evening. read more
