My personal opinion is that the women's shoes are somewhat matronly here, unless you're looking for running shoes/sneakers. Men's shoes also tend to the older demographic again, unless you are looking for sneakers. My husband has a wide foot, so if he buys his regular size the shoe is too narrow and if he sizes up to fit the width, the length is too long. Hence, it's difficult for him to find shoes. Well, he found some sneakers at Tootsies easily. Their prices weren't super duper, but my husband is not a browser like I am, he's a buyer, he enters a store with a purpose, if it fits, he likes it and the price is not totally unreasonable, the store makes the sale, lol. Staff were nice. The store is in the Stafford Shopping Centre. Lots of free parking in the plaza. I would recommend this store for sneakers in hard to find sizes. Or of you like orthopedic looking shoes ;) (no judgement here).

As per my previous review, Merivale Mall is still a sad little mall, but it is a little less sad…read morenow that a large Marshalls has opened up there. The Marshalls here is not as good as the Marshalls at Trainyards but it's not bad (if you like these kinds of stores, which I do - brand names at discount prices, count me in!). There were big renovations to this mall leading up to the grand opening of the Marshalls. It's no longer dark and grungy. It's bright and very spacious now. Although the lack of tenants makes the mall look rather sparse. There's still a Farm Boy, Shoppers Drug Mart, and Sportchek. T&T Tailors is still there (and they are still great). I think the shawarma place is gone. There's a Pizza Pizza instead. There's a rug store, a tanning salon, a hair salon and a cell phone accessories kiosk. And a handful of other small stores. The weird thing is that some stores are not accessible through the mall. You have to go outside to get into the store (i.e. Payless Shoes). There's lots of free parking, which is always a plus. I only go here for Marshalls, Farm Boy and T&T Tailors.

Pretty much unobjectionable if you're willing to pay the high prices for the quality. It's a small selection to go with the small store, but they carry a variety of shoes and have a lot of nice brands, including some Canadian-made, ethically manufactured, and/or eco-friendly ones if you tell them that's what you're looking for. The staff are both friendly and knowledgeable, and will actively try to help you find something you're happy with.

Styles range from orthopedic frumpy to mildly stylish comfort (think Naturalizer, Ecco, Rockport, etc.) No Jessica Simpson, Guess, or Le Chateau style shoes here. I was looking for a pair of comfortable, warm, black leather wedge heeled boots that I could wear with dresses (and look fashionable) but still be able to walk in the snow without slipping. This was a difficult search but I found them at Shumaker! They even had them in my bordering on freakishly small size of 5! And they were on sale (for $104 instead of $160)! Salespeople were super nice and friendly. I had never heard of this store before they opened at Carlingwood Mall about a year ago or so, but now they have another location at Place d'Orleans too.

I enjoy visiting Winners and not having anything that I truly need to buy. That's what happened when I stopped by this store. I found a bottle of Seche Vite, but it was the gel-like top coat version that I have never tried before. I do my nails and like a fast-drying top coat. As luck would have it, I was in the purse section and saw a purple Kipling purse that was both compact and on sale. $10 off the regular price?! Yes, it's mine! I was so pleased with this purchase. It's not every day when you snatch the perfect small purse for $25. This Winners, in particular, has the most extensive selection of records (vinyl for those who didn't grow up with a record player) that I have ever seen. I was impressed and spent some time flipping through all the titles. The gourmet food section is great. I found vegan candy, lots of tea varieties, and more. Unfortunately, every time I have been stopping by, the shelves have been sparse, and almost empty, with the same products sitting on the shelves week after week. The turnover on the products have not been great at all. I love how they have a jewelry counter, but its always difficult to get merchandise shown to you because the one staff working that counter is always swamped, or with another customer. Sometimes you have to wait around 5+ minutes to see something. I usually give up and walk away and return when the customers have left the counter. The juniors section has had the same clothes sitting on the racks for the last few weeks. I am guessing the reason is because it is between seasons. I have rarely had a problem with customer service, although recently the cashier charged me twice for a shirt, but that was because we were having so much fun chatting about leg warmers. :) I noticed on my receipt when I got home about the double charge, and called the store and was told that I just need to bring in my receipt and it will all be taken care of. The hubby did so for me the next day, and the cashier tried to put up a fight, but it was all taken care of in the end. The line ups at the checkout are not too bad during the week, but you can be waiting in line for a while during the weekend. Although I prefer the Bayshore Winners, this location is a quick fix for me, and sometimes I find some really great finds here.
