Hello Darlings... Hubs and I stepped out in Asbury today! Glory! First time at this theater on Cookman Ave and without further ado we must get to the matter at hand... It's right off Main St between the Cookman Creamery and The Speakeatery (review forthcoming). It's a small, three-auditorium cinema. Each theater has a capacity of roughly 70 seats, with about 6 or 7 rows. The screen is appropriately sized for the space and the sound quality is nice. It's comfortable, clean, and very tasteful. A Sunday matinee sees about $13 per ticket (seniors $11) for first-run films. The concession stand has the standbys in addition to some prepared by local businesses on the thoroughfare. Unless you're following Your Host's Low-Carb Life, please take advantage of their concessions, as this is apparently the main avenue of the theater's profit margin, which in turn, keeps them in business. The only peeve Your Host has is the number of previews you get exposed to before the main feature. Fortunately darlings, that's far fewer than what you get when you head out to the major multiplexes...those seem to go on for ever and a day... Overall, our debut visit to The Showroom was marvelous nonetheless. They will be taking over the Beach Cinema in Bradley Beach in the coming weeks, and we look forward to visiting them at that location when it opens. Oh yes...Jonathan...have you been here? Saw a movie here with my family on a Saturday afternoon. We parked on the street and bought tickets when the box office opened. They have discounts for students! While we waited we went to the thrift store down the street. The theater we were in had about 20 seats. It was nice to see many people just come watch independent films by themselves. This is new for my family and I but we would love to do it again and will definitely come back here for another indie movie! read more

The Showroom Cinema is located on Cookman Avenue and Asbury Park. It is three small theaters in one. They mainly show indie films that do not get national exposure. Many of these films are just great. It's nice to go to a small, clean theatre in the heart of AP. Though, the Manager seems a bit "stiff & dry". read more

Bottom line: The Showroom is a nice but small and intimate setting for taking in a movie. Their concessions revenue they generate is what keeps the cinema going so buying movies snacks there is greatly encouraged. A nice setting to take in a movie in Asbury Park, that fits with the Asbury Park vibe in general. The Deets: We finally got to see a film (The Favourite) at the local cinema in Asbury Park, The Showroom. I like that it has a smaller more intimate type of setting for viewing a movie, in which they appear to show mostly independent type films but also a few more well known also. Upon entering, there is a very small lobby/entry hall. Here you can buy concessions for your viewing experience at their small stand, and they do state that the revenue from concessions is what keeps the their small movie house going...so it's highly encouraged to buy. Nice thing is they offer locally made goods (such as from Red Rose Bakery when we were there) to buy there as well as the normal movie snacks. Once through the small lobby, you go to your designated theater area. It's quite intimate with only 6-7 rows of seats, I like this feeling. They also say on their slide displays before the main attraction that the space can be rented out, that would be a cool type of venue. This is a great addition to Asbury Park. We've seen a few movies in this little theatre and we always enjoy ourselves, although we feel a little bit shitty when we don't buy much from the concession area... I'm glad they have a variety of coffee and herbal tea to select from- tea and a movie on a cold winter day is quite a delight. They have clever little signs in the bathrooms because the bathroom lights are on timers. So if you spend a couple of minutes on the toilet, the light goes out on you. Just remember to flail your arms wildly or do the YMCA while sitting on the bowl and you can keep the light on for the duration of your waste evacuation. read more

If you enjoy art house and independent films, this is a great place to check out. They get the less mainstream movies that you can't see at the mainstream theaters. Sometimes those lesser known films are better than the ones everyone has heard of it. read more

This theatre is a hidden gem in the hustle and bustle of Cookman in Asbury Park. Showing most frequently Sundance films or small releases- each of the three theaters is small, seating about 25 people. The snack stand was equipped with a Keruig where you can purchase K-Cups to make your own cup, along with your other classic movie snacks. Overall I do not think there is more to ask from a movie theatre; the bathrooms are clean, staff is kind and welcoming, and seats are comfortable without being too cozy. I cannot wait to stop by again for another film! read more

We have been going here for a couple of years because it is the BEST place to see interesting movies that you would only find in NYC. It has 3 screens and they hold about 15, 20 and 70 seats. Greatest snacks too....and we heard they are renovating the old Beach Cinema in Bradley Beach...Hope it is just as nice....Parking can be tough on weekends, so give extra time to park...lots of good food choices in A.P. too... read more

My first experience here was to see the film Kedi. I called weeks in advance to figure out seating, pricing, schedule, etc. I am happy you can call and someone will answer, unlike larger movie theaters you may have to listen to recordings first. I was told the schedule and ticket buying options are available the week before. Kedi was scheduled for March 10, but during the week prior only Sunday at 7pm was available. I called again, and was told there will be more shows available soon, and Sunday has a private group that reserved tickets. Also told it's open to public but isn't recommended, and I should call the manager the next day. I did call the next day, to speak with manager, who sounded mad that I called. She was quick to speak over me, said in a nasty tone, more shows are getting posted within the hour. I asked about the Sunday show at 7pm if its true to avoid it, and she said 20 tickets are available, 40 are reserved. Then said, sorry, she is on another call and hung up. Well, my friend and I decided to try Monday at 7pm. We arrived, and two gentlemen were there working. Very friendly, courteous.. Offered to sell us snacks. I asked about MSG in the popcorn, and he gave me the bag to read ingredients. Saw artificial colors, unknown additives, no MSG, but I passed. No pressure, he said okay. I did see locally made snacks were also available which was really cool to see. Then we were told theater 1 for Kedi. This had to be the smallest theater I ever stepped into. 4-5 rows tops. 8-10 seats in rows tops. Maybe Sunday's show would have been bigger theater? Seats were okay to sit in. No room. My knees almost touched the row in front. Not much pitch either, I am 5'6, and the row in front was sitting about same height as me so I had a blocked view. The door was closed, lights off, with a fan on in the ceiling. I felt towards the end of the film light headed, not much fresh air ventilation. When you have a closed room with people breathing in it, the carbon dioxide levels spike, unless the room is balanced with fresh air. Sound acoustics were good though. When over, we were given a small piece of paper with 4-5 other films in upcoming attractions. For a local place, not bad. Not great. Wish the website was more clear about details, the manager was nicer on the phone, ventilation was better, and some legroom. read more

I love the Showroom Cinema! It's such a sweet charming little theater that plays big flicks and small alternative indie films and all the in between. I've gone there countless times with my family and have always enjoyed it. They sell organic cookies/local goods/the typical popcorn and soda + many more interesting snacks. You can even get hot drinks such as tea and hot chocolate in the theater. It has the best movie food i've ever had. Saw Wild there with my cousin last year - couldn't see myself having gone anywhere else. I honestly have no complaints. The theater is a wonderful and intimate place that I highly suggest visiting when you drop by Asbury. read more

With 3 small comfortable theaters to choose from there is always a film for you here. Tonight I have s theater all to myself. That may seem cool but if this place closes there will be no place left in Monmouth County to view films like this. Get off the couch and get out here! read more

You know that I have been going to "The Showroom" many years now....(when they were across the street and sat in lawn chairs, and their motto is to support your local theatre, which I have been doing... Saturday I bought tickets for my girlfriend and I to see the 5:10 showing of "The Meddler". As it turned out my girlfriend developed a migraine headache before show time and tried to, she thought please me by going in... after 25-30 minutes of having her head on my shoulder with her eyes closed... and me trying to hold her head and put pressure on it... I said "Let's go", she wasn't going to feel better. As we were leaving I asked the ticket woman Debbie if we could get a raincheck to see "THIS MOVIE" THAT'S AGAINST OUR POLICY" Paying more money to get into the showroom should be my policy, especially sitting in uncomfortable seats in a very small theatre, on a very small screen but I always tried to support this independent movie theatre.....NO MORE DEBBIE, and for all reading this... DEBBIE WASN'T A TICKET PERSON, IT TURNS OUT SHE IS THE MANAGER! SHAME ON HER and the owner if this is what they think of me and "YOU" when they ask us to support them! The showroom is a really cool place dedicated to independent films. The 2 times that I have visited was for the first Saturday comedy. At the old location it was an improve troop that performed and these actors/comedians were hilarious. Now not so much. The new theater is really nice, comfortable and an improvement from the lawn chairs. But the comedy was awful . 1 out of 6 were somewhat funny. Very disappointed. Please bring back the improve troop and ditch the stand up. read more

great independent theater that shows smaller movies that are rarely shown elsewhere (and some more mainstream films). They usually have 3 films showing at a time that rotate weekly. clean space, nice staff, popcorn etc. I've seen a ton of great movies here. Just go already. read more

I really dont understand why nobody reviewed this growing cinema (they are opening a 3 cinema in late Octiber so Im told). They not only have movies (which often are followed by Q&A with some participants from the movies) that the Angelika (NY) would be proud of, ther5e have stand up comedy improv and other musical (this is Asbury PArk after all!!) and talk events. Love it ! I'm a big movie and the experiience of a movie theater as opposed my big screen TV. I just love the experience from the person that takes your money to the snacks, to the seats, to the selection of movies and then and not last when you walk out you can still retain the feeling of the movie, there aren't people just hanging there because its a huge movie threater and a place to hang like Monmouth Mall. read more

The very best place to watch a good movie. They often feature the most artistically appealing films. The people who own the theatre are very community minded and do all kinds of wonderful things for the City of Asbury Park. They are also willing to accommodate schools who want to gather students for a special viewing. I cannot say enough positive things about the Showroom. Go there! I love The Showroom. It's my favorite place to see a movie. Plus, for the last four years, my family has had a post-Thanksgiving "film festival" in the screening room upstairs. We watch a couple of movies (that we have spent the prior three months discussing and selecting!), eat leftovers, and just generally have a great time. It's one of my favorite days of the year. Unfortunately, on Sunday night I was bitten about 30 times on my elbows, which I believe was bedbug bites, something which I do not wish on my enemies. I went to this wonderful intimate movie theater last Friday with my daughters. I have been raving about it to all my friends and coworkers, so I decided to post here. I love the entire vibe from the small seating (great chairs), concession stand that offers fresh coffee, and unusual snacks, cookies, and such. The interior is updated and decorated in transitional decor. When I went there there was an older group of people watching the movie with us, and occasionally there was a comment on a scene or set decoration. Instead of being annoying it was amusing, after all it's very, very, small seating. For me it added to the experience, like I was sitting at a friends/family house watching a movie, and "uncle Al" was so into the movie that he needed to comment. Pretty funny. I love the films they are showing as well. So, if you want the sugary over priced drinks, M & M's boxes, Super loud volume, and impersonal surroundings you might want to stick to what you know. If you want refreshing, make a date for the Showroom. read more
