I worked on a landscape inspired by the hills of Taos, and what really stood out wasn't just the painting itself--it was how the whole evening felt. Laura and Mickey are wonderful teachers. They guide you step by step in a way that's clear and supportive, but never rigid. There's a real encouragement to follow your own vision, to experiment, and to not take it all too seriously. It creates this relaxed, creative energy where you can actually enjoy the process instead of worrying about getting it "right." The whole space feels warm and welcoming, and it's easy to settle in and just paint. By the end of the night, I felt both proud of what I made and inspired to keep going. If you're looking for a fun, supportive place to explore painting, I'd definitely recommend checking out a class here.

Undeniably awkward and bad experience…read more I'm a new visitor to Santa Fe by way of NYC/LA. I've traveled & lived all over the world, am a professional creative and make a great living ... BUT ~I'm not flashy... from the moment the blonde older woman (owner?) saw me walk in she made it clear we were not welcome and seemed suspicious about our very presence. Mind you that although we were casual we were not sloppy. I love fashion, art and the finer things .. as well as a good dive bar and Levi's but I felt VERY unwelcome for no good reason. Bad day perhaps? I was friendly to the shop keeper but she seemed pretty salty and sus. What I have to say is I came in intending to spend real money and enjoy myself but I was so put off by this small town basic B that I won't be back. Good luck with this unremarkable business. Glad I dragged myself over from a wonderful gallery experience for your excessively average spot. There are much better places to spend your time and money. This is a tourist trap. . .

After spending some time at the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, I wanted to see what other artwork Santa Fe had to offer. I had needed to see what happened before the buffalo were gone. A brief walk along Palace Ave led me into Huey's. The art in this gallery is American in nature and entirely native. It's a fantastic reminder of what this part of the country (or, more accurately, *this* country) used to look like. Inside the gallery is piece after piece of dramatic Native scenes. From lovers entwined in bronze to a warrior with bow & arrow drawn astride horseback in wood to a giggling child staring at you with eyes of wonder, captured in oil, I found myself mesmerized by the collection and eager to explore every nook and cranny to discover all it had to offer. The gallery doesn't need my accolades to give it business. Its work has been collected at The White House, The National Gallery of Art and The Smithsonian. But, I do think it's important to remember the importance of this gallery and others like it. Santa Fe is a beautiful city way set in the clouds (higher elevation than Denver). It's a wealthy city, home to many folks with lots of cash and vacation spot to even more people with more cash. Things aren't cheap (t)here. But, Santa Fe didn't always look like this. The Huey tells an essential part of this story, a story that must be heard and given voice... even while the privileged beauty of The City Different makes its halcyon call to wanderers of all sorts. Also the lady said to ask her any questions if we had any, so my friend asked her how long a specific painting took the artist, to which the lady responded "What difference does it make?" After I learned that I was really disappointed that she was so disinterested in the customer experience- especially since I'm planning to buy a Kirk Buchanan original once one I want comes on the market. I'm not buying it from Art Mozaik though.

They offer a taste of this once a month for a minimum amount AND all the monies they collect that night (yes it's held in the early evening) goes to a local charity. Love this place! I'm taking a a beginners hand building pottery class. It's a weekly series for 7…read moreweeks, and it's been so fun! Tiff, our instructor, is fantastic. She's super knowledgeable and helpful during our classes, and adapts the class to our projects. The space is quite big, and has a very nice atmosphere. You can bring food/drinks while you're in the studio, and you can even get some snacks/drinks while you're there. Dogs also roam the studio while their owners are working. Paseo donates a ton of money to local charities which is so sweet. They're a non-profit and you can "vote" on where you want the money to go. I'll probably take another class here. So fun!
