The venue's easy to get to - just a short walk from Clapham Junction station, or via bus. There is a modest bar/cafe downstairs to get a coffee or alcoholic beverage before the show. Limited selection of wine and beer running around £4.5, as well as a few things to eat. (They've also been ok with people bringing in outside food from other nearby takeaways, but I don't know if this is how it always is.) It's an odd space but in a cool way: there's a giant staircase right inside the front doors with cushioned booths to sit on directly on the steps, and a huge mirror on the ceiling of the entry. The Centre is currently undergoing a renovation, so I'm interested to see what it will evolve into.

Great floor seats the first night but the view was even better from the balcony the second night. No A/C (which I don't think very many UK buildings have) so the 75-degree evening translated into a hot & sweaty show for both attendees & Joey on stage. Especially uncomfortable on the balcony as heat rises; a small price to pay to see one of my favorite performers in one of my favorite cities. Good times!!

Seats were reasonably comfortable, staff was friendly, there were clean toilets with loo roll (and no queue for the women's, although that might have been the demographic of the gig I was at, more than the venue). Bar is indeed pretty basic, a 250ml red wine was £6 in a plastic cup, and they have a carafe of water on the side at the upstairs bar if you just want tap water. Overall, it was a civilised evening with great music, so I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

They have a couple of bars in there depending on what shows are on will affect which bars they open. Sometimes the staff are not sure which one is open until told by the evening supervisor. Speaking of bars I was at the venue for a show and with my ticket you were meant to get a discount on wines, beers and spirits, however the bar staff were oblivious to this and it was not until a supervisor came along they knew what was going on. I have been to several productions in this venue from school performances to performances from seasoned actors and have always enjoyed them. They often have art exhibitions in the upper part of the venue and sometimes these are free to view but not always. What I like about the venue is that they have, what I consider to be a friends of Fairfield Halls work force. These people look as though they are retired (apologise if they are not and I am doing them a disservice) who man the stairs and lobby areas directing people to the right areas of the venue for there activity. In terms of parking there is limited parking at the front of the venue which is £5 for an evening stay and I have no idea about the prices during the day. I would say that East Croydon station is a 5/10minute walk dependant on your speed and it is also served by good public transport out front. There is a car park below the venue and I believe you can get discount for parking their when you buy something from one of the concessions within the food area, but I cannot remember which it is, sorry. A good venue to see a show or a tribute band or the local schools production, my it be around forever, as long as I am anyway.

This is a great place to meet up with friends for a drink. Wooden floor boards throughout, friendly staff, great music, not too loud and a great selection of beers.. Not that many pubs on Dalston Lane, so nice to see one open up in such a cool space. And so very Dalston.

In my view, unquestionably the best comedy club in London - they really know how to put on a good…read morenight's entertainment. What to expect? Three top acts from the comedy circuit plus one of their regular comperes (Craig Murray should be knighted) and a special exclusive kind of atmosphere which you just can't get at the more 'corporate' clubs. My girlfriend (Libby who wrote the first review) and I have now become regulars and the staff who run the comedy are always really friendly and welcoming. Once you know the place, my tip is pay for your tickets over the phone via their booking line, that way you can request which seats you'd like - they can't always 100% guarantee that you'll get what you've asked for - it is a dinky room and they often have odd group sizes to grapple with but its a nice touch nonetheless. Particularly in the Autumn/Winter peak days (Friday Saturday mainly) often get booked up over a week in advance so book early to avoid disappointment. Thoroughly recommended,

I've been looking forward to going to the Bonanza queer nights and attending a Sunday blues brunch. However, after an incredibly unpleasant experience on the door last Saturday, I will never be setting foot in the place again. I arrived around 11.15pm with a group of 8 people, celebrating my birthday and out for a good boogie to end the night. Two people in our party put their cups on a windowsill before approaching the door, understandably the manager was irritated by this and I told my friends to remove them and find a bin instead. Despite apologising for this and resolving the situation, the manager then refused us entry, coming up with every excuse under the sun: we were too late to enter, there was a guest list, there was a private event, we had 'bad juju', I was aggressive. None of these things were true. A friend of mine who was alread inside with a different party told me that the place had actually cleared out, it was a quiet night, and this manager was heard bragging about turning away '35 or 40' people that night already for no reason. After we went on to a different pub, she text me that she had spoken to the manager and he would let us in if we got there before 12am. So back we went, only to realise that our new price of entry was to metaphorically get on my hands and knees and lick the manager's boots in apology for my 'aggressive behaviour'. I cannot make it more clear that this whole time I had not been aggressive, I was asking pointedly why we were being refused entry. If there are cameras on the front door, you are more than welcome to review the footage and see for yourself. However, under no circumstances would I prostrate myself and beg forgiveness for something I hadn't done so that this manager could play king of the castle on his little power trip. The bouncer also got involved in this charade and was of no help whatsoever. Perhaps the manager would do well to take a sexism awareness training course if he thinks a young woman asking him questions makes her 'aggressive'. Tonight it's my birthday night out and the Boogaloo fits the bill perfectly. No entry fee, no pressure to get your money's worth, no stress, no massive walk to the tube - just good ole fun dancing times. Perfect for a 20 *cough cough splutter* something who can't hack staying up past 2am. It's the start of November and the place is packed with Halloween revellers looking for a boo-gie - that's a ghost's favourite type of dance by the way. Spooky costumes are abound, but it's actually a rock'n'roll night. The first Saturday of every month, aka this night, is called 'Hot Dog' where DJ Jimi Laff spins 50s. 60s and 70s tunes. Different evenings have different DJs and themes but I have a feeling that nights at the Boogaloo don't vary too much musically from this retro affair. But Hot Dog, Hot Damn! What fun we had! The hits kept on coming and we danced hard. Hours and hours on the floor, I had to drag myself away to rest my tired feet. Not all the club nights here have free entry, but I believe if you get there when it's still in 'pub' mode you can circumvent the entry charge. But once it hits 10pm they dim the lights, and it transforms from social club style pub to party party party. The only negatives about the Boogaloo, and I hope I do not sound like an old woman writing this (but it's my birthday so maybe I am now), is the PA system was a touch too loud, and felt ear splitting at points. Plus it's not a proper club, so there's no decent ventilation - it gets stupidly hot. Also I completely understand security have a job to do, but can't they be a touch friendlier. Sometime's a bit of politeness goes a long way. Luckily there's a beer garden, and some quiet lounges at the back to get away for a respite when it gets too much. But I am coming back, there's more nights to be had, plus swing dance earlier on Saturdays, and nudey life drawing Sunday daytime. Boo-galoo? More like Woo-galoo!

Except for some minor stripping. But that's okay because tassels count for something, right? Anyway, yes the show was actually pretty good. It features some acrobatics, dancing, fire hula hoops, you name it. I was impressed given that the actual stage was quite small. The actors used the mezzanine quite extensively. I think of it as a very light cirque du soleil that is slightly bawdy. But I repeat, it is not a gentleman's club. In fact, the audience was either couples or groups of women. The seating is kind of weird upstairs. The room is circular so you may happen to view the show from behind the actors, which is what we did. It was still good but there were certain scenes that took place behind pillars, and it was a bit harder to view those scenes. I bought tickets for only 15 pounds (that's around $22 USD as of this writing) so it was not a bad deal.
